Tehillim (Psa) 77
77
1For the leader. For Y’dutun. A psalm of Asaf:
2I cry aloud to God,
aloud to God; and he hears me.
3On the day of my distress I am seeking Adonai;
my hands are lifted up;
my tears flow all night without ceasing;
my heart refuses comfort.
4When remembering God, I moan;
when I ponder, my spirit fails. (Selah)
5You hold my eyelids [and keep me from sleeping];
I am too troubled to speak.
6I think about the days of old,
the years of long ago;
7in the night I remember my song,
I commune with myself, my spirit inquires:
8“Will Adonai reject forever?
will he never show his favor again?
9Has his grace permanently disappeared?
Is his word to all generations done away?
10Has God forgotten to be compassionate?
Has he in anger withheld his mercy?” (Selah)
11Then I add, “That’s my weakness —
[supposing] the Most High’s right hand could change.”
12So I will remind myself of Yah’s doings;
yes, I will remember your wonders of old.
13I will meditate on your work
and think about what you have done.
14God, your way is in holiness.
What god is as great as God?
15You are the God who does wonders,
you revealed your strength to the peoples.
16With your arm you redeemed your people,
the descendants of Ya‘akov and Yosef. (Selah)
17The water saw you, God;
the water saw you and writhed in anguish,
agitated to its depths.
18The clouds poured water, the skies thundered,
and your arrows flashed here and there.
19The sound of your thunder was in the whirlwind,
the lightning flashes lit up the world,
the earth trembled and shook.
20Your way went through the sea,
your path through the turbulent waters;
but your footsteps could not be traced.
21You led your people like a flock
under the care of Moshe and Aharon.

In the Day of Trouble I Seek the Lord
To the choirmaster: according to #Ps. 39, title Jeduthun. A Psalm of #Ps. 50, titleAsaph.
1I #See Ps. 3:4cry aloud to God,
aloud to God, and he will hear me.
2 #
Ps. 86:7; [Ps. 20:1; 50:15; Isa. 26:16] In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;
in #Ps. 63:6; Isa. 26:9 the night my #[Ps. 143:6] hand is stretched out without wearying;
my soul #Gen. 37:35refuses to be comforted.
3When I remember God, I #Ps. 42:5, 11; 43:5moan;
when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah
4You hold my eyelids open;
I am so #[Gen. 41:8]troubled that I cannot speak.
5I consider #ver. 10, 11; Ps. 44:1; 143:5; Deut. 32:7; Isa. 51:9the days of old,
the years long ago.
6I said,#77:6 Hebrew lacks I said “Let me remember my #See Ps. 42:8 song in the night;
let me #Ps. 4:4meditate in my heart.”
Then my spirit made a diligent search:
7“Will the Lord #See Ps. 44:9 spurn forever,
and never again #Ps. 85:1be favorable?
8Has his steadfast love forever ceased?
Are his #[Rom. 9:6]promises at an end for all time?
9 # [Isa. 49:15] Has God forgotten to be gracious?
# [Hab. 3:2] Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah
10Then I said, “I will appeal to this,
to the years of the #[Ps. 118:15]right hand of the Most High.”#77:10 Or This is my grief: that the right hand of the Most High has changed
11I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will #ver. 5; Ps. 105:5remember your wonders of old.
12I will ponder all your #Ps. 90:16 work,
and meditate on your #Ps. 9:11mighty deeds.
13Your way, O God, is #Ps. 73:17 holy.
# See Ps. 35:10 What god is great like our God?
14You are the God who #See Ps. 72:18 works wonders;
you have #Ps. 106:8made known your might among the peoples.
15You #[Ps. 74:2; Ex. 6:6; Deut. 9:29]with your arm redeemed your people,
the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
16When #Ps. 114:3; Ex. 14:21; Josh. 3:15, 16; Hab. 3:10the waters saw you, O God,
when the waters saw you, they were afraid;
indeed, the deep trembled.
17The clouds poured out water;
the skies #[Ps. 68:33] gave forth thunder;
your #See Ps. 18:14arrows flashed on every side.
18 #
Ps. 104:7 The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind;
#
Ps. 97:4 your lightnings lighted up the world;
the earth #See Ps. 18:7trembled and shook.
19Your #Hab. 3:15 way was through the sea,
your path through the great waters;
yet your footprints #See Ps. 36:6were unseen.#77:19 Hebrew unknown
20You #Ps. 78:52, 53; 80:1; Ex. 13:21; 14:19; Isa. 63:11, 12led your people like a flock
by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
