Tehillim (Psa) 56
56
1For the leader. Set to “The Silent Dove in the Distance.” By David; a mikhtam, when the P’lishtim captured him in Gat:
2Show me favor, God;
for people are trampling me down —
all day they fight and press on me.
3Those who are lying in wait for me
would trample on me all day.
For those fighting against me are many.
Most High, 4when I am afraid,
I put my trust in you.
5In God — I praise his word —
in God I trust; I have no fear;
what can human power do to me?
6All day long they twist my words;
their only thought is to harm me.
7They gather together and hide themselves,
spying on my movements, hoping to kill me.
8Because of their crime, they cannot escape;
in anger, God, strike down the peoples.
9You have kept count of my wanderings;
store my tears in your water-skin —
aren’t they already recorded in your book?
10Then my enemies will turn back
on the day when I call;
this I know: that God is for me.
11In God — I praise his word —
in Adonai — I praise his word —
12in God I trust; I have no fear;
what can mere humans do to me?
13God, I have made vows to you;
I will fulfill them with thank offerings to you.
14For you rescued me from death,
you kept my feet from stumbling,
so that I can walk in God’s presence,
in the light of life.

Psalm 56
For the choir director; according to yonath elem rechokim; #56:0 Unknown musical term. a miktam by David when the Philistines captured him in Gath.
1Have pity on me, O God, because people are harassing me.
All day long warriors oppress me.
2All day long my enemies spy on me.
They harass me.
There are so many fighting against me.
3Even when I am afraid, I still trust you.
4I praise God’s word.
I trust God.
I am not afraid.
What can mere flesh ⌞and blood⌟ do to me?
5All day long my enemies twist my words.
Their every thought is an evil plan against me.
6They attack, and then they hide.
They watch my every step as they wait to take my life.
7With the wrong they do, can they escape?
O God, angrily make the nations fall.
8(You have kept a record of my wanderings.
Put my tears in your bottle.
They are already in your book.)
9Then my enemies will retreat when I call ⌞to you⌟.
This I know: God is on my side.
10I praise God’s word.
I praise the Lord’s word.
11I trust God.
I am not afraid.
What can mortals do to me?
12I am bound by my vows to you, O God.
I will keep my vows by offering songs of thanksgiving to you.
13You have rescued me from death.
You have kept my feet from stumbling
so that I could walk in your presence, in the light of life.
