Mal'akhi (Mal) 2

1“Now, cohanim, this command is for you.

2If you won’t listen, if you won’t pay attention

to honoring my name,”

says Adonai-Tzva’ot,

“then I will send the curse on you;

I will turn your blessings into curses.

Yes, I will curse them,

because you pay no attention.

3I will reject your seed;

I will throw dung in your faces,

the dung from your festival offerings;

and you will be carted off with it.

4Then you will know that I sent you this command

to affirm my covenant with Levi,”

says Adonai-Tzva’ot.

5“My covenant with him was one of life and peace,

and I gave him these things.

It was also one of fear, and he feared me;

he was in awe of my name.

6The true Torah was in his mouth,

and no dishonesty was found on his lips;

he walked with me in peace and uprightness

and turned many away from sin.

7A cohen’s lips should safeguard knowledge,

and people should seek Torah from his mouth,

because he is the messenger

of Adonai-Tzva’ot.

8But you turned away from the path,

you caused many to fail in the Torah,

you corrupted the covenant of Levi,”

says Adonai-Tzva’ot.

9“Therefore I have in turn made you

contemptible and vile before all the people,

because you did not keep my ways

but were partial in applying the Torah.”

10Don’t we all have the same father?

Didn’t one God create us all?

Then why do we break faith with each other,

profaning the covenant of our ancestors?

11Y’hudah has broken faith;

an abomination has been committed

in Isra’el and Yerushalayim.

For Y’hudah has profaned the sanctuary

of Adonai, which he loves,

by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.

12If a man does this and presents an offering

to Adonai-Tzva’ot, may Adonai cut him off

from the tents of Ya‘akov,

whether initiator or follower.

13Here is something else you do:

you cover Adonai’s altar with tears,

with weeping and with sighing,

because he no longer looks at the offering

or receives your gift with favor.

14Nevertheless, you ask, “Why is this?”

Because Adonai is witness

between you and the wife of your youth

that you have broken faith with her,

though she is your companion, your wife by covenant.

15And hasn’t he made [them] one [flesh]

in order to have spiritual blood-relatives?

For what the one [flesh] seeks

is a seed from God.

Therefore, take heed to your spirit,

and don’t break faith with the wife of your youth.

16“For I hate divorce,”

says Adonai the God of Isra’el,

“and him who covers his clothing with violence,”

says Adonai-Tzva’ot.

Therefore take heed to your spirit,

and don’t break faith.

17You have wearied Adonai with your words.

Yet you ask, “How have we wearied him?”

By saying that anyone who does wrong

is good from Adonai’s perspective,

and that he is delighted with them;

or by asking, “Where is the God of justice?”

제사장들에 대한 경고

1너희 제사장들아, 전능하신 여호와께서 너희에게 경고하시는 말씀을 들어라.

2“만일 너희가 내 말을 듣지 않고 진심으로 내 이름을 높이지 않으면 내가 너희에게 저주를 내려 너희 축복이 저주가 되게 하겠다. 너희가 내 말을 진지하게 받아들이지 않았으므로 사실 나는 이미 너희를 저주하였다.

3“내가 너희 자녀를 벌할 것이며 너희 희생제물의 똥을 너희 얼굴에 바를 것이니 너희가 똥처럼 던져질 것이다.

4그때 너희는 레위와 맺은 내 계약이 존속하도록 하기 위해서 내가 이 명령을 너희에게 내린 것을 알게 될 것이다.

5레위와 맺은 내 계약은 생명과 평안의 계약이었다. 내가 그와 이 계약을 맺은 것은 그가 나를 두려워하도록 하기 위해서였다. 과연 그는 나를 공경하고 내 이름을 두려워하였다.

6그는 #2:6 또는 ‘그 입에는 진리의 법이 있었고 그 입술에는 불의함이 없었으며’진리의 법을 가르쳤고 속이거나 거짓말을 하지 않았으며 화평과 정직함으로 나와 동행하였고 많은 사람을 죄에서 떠나게 하였다.

7“제사장의 입술은 참된 지식을 간직해야 하고 사람들은 그 입에서 #2:7 또는 ‘율법을 구하게 되어야 할 것이니’교훈을 얻어야 한다. 제사장은 전능한 나 여호와의 사자이기 때문이다.

8그러나 너희 제사장들은 바른 길에서 떠나 잘못된 너희 가르침으로 많은 사람을 넘어지게 하였다. 전능한 나 여호와가 말한다. 너희는 내가 레위와 맺은 계약을 깨뜨렸다.

9너희가 #2:9 또는 ‘내 도를 지 키지 아니하고’내 뜻을 따르지 않고 율법 문제를 취급하는 데 있어서 편파적이었으므로 나도 너희가 모든 백성 앞에서 멸시와 천대를 받게 하였다.”

신실하지 못한 여호와의 백성들

10우리가 다 한 아버지를 모시지 않았느냐? 한 하나님이 우리를 창조하시지 않았느냐? 어째서 우리가 서로 신의를 저버리고 우리 조상들의 계약을 욕되게 하느냐?

11유다는 신의를 저버렸고 이스라엘과 예루살렘에서는 더러운 일이 있었으며 또 유다는 여호와께서 사랑하시는 성소를 더럽히고 우상을 섬기는 이방 여자들과 결혼하였다.

12 # 2:12 원문에는 ‘깨는 자나 응답하는 자’ 누구든지 이런 짓을 하면 그가 비록 전능하신 여호와께 제사를 드린다고 해도 여호와께서는 그런 자를 이스라엘 백성 가운데서 제거하실 것이다.

13너희는 또 이런 일도 행하고 있다. 여호와께서 너희가 드리는 제물에 무관심하시고 그것을 기쁘게 받지 않으신다고 너희가 눈물로 여호와의 단을 적시고 울며 탄식하면서

14그 이유가 무엇이냐고 묻고 있는데 이것은 너희가 어려서 결혼한 너희 아내에게 신실하지 않은 것을 여호와께서 알고 계시기 때문이다. 너희 아내는 너희와 결혼 서약을 한 너희 짝이었으나 너희는 너희 아내에게 신의를 지키지 않았다.

15 # 2:15 또는 ‘여호와는 영이 유여하실지라도 오직 하나를 짓지 아니하셨느냐?’ 여호와께서는 너희를 아내와 한몸이 되게 하시지 않았느냐? 이렇게 하신 목적이 무엇이냐? 이것은 여호와께서 경건한 자녀를 얻고자 하시기 때문이다. 그러므로 너희는 너희 마음을 지켜 젊어서 얻은 너희 아내를 배신하지 말아라.

16이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 말씀하신다. “나는 #2:16 또는 ‘이혼하는 것과 학대로 옷을 가리우는 자’이혼 자체를 미워하며 자기 아내에게 그런 끔찍한 짓을 하는 자를 미워한다. 그러므로 너희는 너희 마음을 지켜 너희 아내에게 신의를 저버리지 말아라.”

17너희는 말로 여호와를 지치게 하고서도 “우리가 어떻게 여호와를 지치게 했습니까?” 하고 말한다. 너희는 “여호와께서 악을 행하는 모든 사람을 선하게 생각하시고 그들을 기쁘게 여기신다” 고 하며 또 “의의 하나님이 어디 있느냐?” 하고 말함으로써 여호와를 지치게 하고 있다.
