Vayikra (Lev) 23
23
1(iv) Adonai said to Moshe, 2“Tell the people of Isra’el: ‘The designated times of Adonai which you are to proclaim as holy convocations are my designated times.
3“‘Work is to be done on six days; but the seventh day is a Shabbat of complete rest, a holy convocation; you are not to do any kind of work; it is a Shabbat for Adonai, even in your homes.
4“‘These are the designated times of Adonai, the holy convocations you are to proclaim at their designated times.
5“‘In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, between sundown and complete darkness, comes Pesach for Adonai. 6On the fifteenth day of the same month is the festival of matzah; for seven days you are to eat matzah. 7On the first day you are to have a holy convocation; don’t do any kind of ordinary work. 8Bring an offering made by fire to Adonai for seven days. On the seventh day is a holy convocation; do not do any kind of ordinary work.’”
9Adonai said to Moshe, 10“Tell the people of Isra’el, ‘After you enter the land I am giving you and harvest its ripe crops, you are to bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the cohen. 11He is to wave the sheaf before Adonai, so that you will be accepted; the cohen is to wave it on the day after the Shabbat. 12On the day that you wave the sheaf, you are to offer a male lamb without defect, in its first year, as a burnt offering for Adonai. 13Its grain offering is to be one gallon of fine flour mixed with olive oil, an offering made by fire to Adonai as a fragrant aroma; its drink offering is to be of wine, one quart. 14You are not to eat bread, dried grain or fresh grain until the day you bring the offering for your God; this is a permanent regulation through all your generations, no matter where you live.
15“‘From the day after the day of rest — that is, from the day you bring the sheaf for waving — you are to count seven full weeks, 16until the day after the seventh week; you are to count fifty days; and then you are to present a new grain offering to Adonai. 17You must bring bread from your homes for waving — two loaves made with one gallon of fine flour, baked with leaven — as firstfruits for Adonai. 18Along with the bread, present seven lambs without defect one year old, one young bull and two rams; these will be a burnt offering for Adonai, with their grain and drink offerings, an offering made by fire as a fragrant aroma for Adonai. 19Offer one male goat as a sin offering and two male lambs one year old as a sacrifice of peace offerings. 20The cohen will wave them with the bread of the firstfruits as a wave offering before Adonai, with the two lambs; these will be holy for Adonai for the cohen. 21On the same day, you are to call a holy convocation; do not do any kind of ordinary work; this is a permanent regulation through all your generations, no matter where you live.
22“‘When you harvest the ripe crops produced in your land, don’t harvest all the way to the corners of your field, and don’t gather the ears of grain left by the harvesters; leave them for the poor and the foreigner; I am Adonai your God.’”
(v) 23Adonai said to Moshe, 24“Tell the people of Isra’el, ‘In the seventh month, the first of the month is to be for you a day of complete rest for remembering, a holy convocation announced with blasts on the shofar. 25Do not do any kind of ordinary work, and bring an offering made by fire to Adonai.’”
26Adonai said to Moshe, 27“The tenth day of this seventh month is Yom-Kippur; you are to have a holy convocation, you are to deny yourselves, and you are to bring an offering made by fire to Adonai. 28You are not to do any kind of work on that day, because it is Yom-Kippur, to make atonement for you before Adonai your God. 29Anyone who does not deny himself on that day is to be cut off from his people; 30and anyone who does any kind of work on that day, I will destroy from among his people. 31You are not to do any kind of work; it is a permanent regulation through all your generations, no matter where you live. 32It will be for you a Shabbat of complete rest, and you are to deny yourselves; you are to rest on your Shabbat from evening the ninth day of the month until the following evening.”
(vi) 33Adonai said to Moshe, 34“Tell the people of Isra’el, ‘On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the feast of Sukkot for seven days to Adonai. 35On the first day there is to be a holy convocation; do not do any kind of ordinary work. 36For seven days you are to bring an offering made by fire to Adonai; on the eighth day you are to have a holy convocation and bring an offering made by fire to Adonai ; it is a day of public assembly; do not do any kind of ordinary work.
37“‘These are the designated times of Adonai that you are to proclaim as holy convocations and bring an offering made by fire to Adonai — a burnt offering, a grain offering, a sacrifice and drink offerings, each on its own day — 38besides the Shabbats of Adonai, your gifts, all your vows and all your voluntary offerings that you give to Adonai.
39“‘But on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered the produce of the land, you are to observe the festival of Adonai seven days; the first day is to be a complete rest and the eighth day is to be a complete rest. 40On the first day you are to take choice fruit, palm fronds, thick branches and river-willows, and celebrate in the presence of Adonai your God for seven days. 41You are to observe it as a feast to Adonai seven days in the year; it is a permanent regulation, generation after generation; keep it in the seventh month. 42You are to live in sukkot for seven days; every citizen of Isra’el is to live in a sukkah, 43so that generation after generation of you will know that I made the people of Isra’el live in sukkot when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; I am Adonai your God.’”
44Thus Moshe announced to the people of Isra’el the designated times of Adonai.

Sacred times
1The LORD said to Moses: 2Speak to the Israelites and say to them: These are my appointed times, the LORD’s appointed times, which you will declare to be holy occasions: 3Work can be done for six days, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of special rest, a holy occasion. You must not do any work on it; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD. 4These are the LORD’s appointed times, holy occasions, which you will celebrate at their appointed times:
5The LORD’s Passover is on the fourteenth day of the first month#23.5 March–April, Nisan at twilight. 6The LORD’s Festival of Unleavened Bread is on the fifteenth day of the same month. You must eat unleavened bread for seven days. 7On the first day you will hold a holy occasion and must not do any job-related work. 8You will offer food gifts to the LORD for seven days. The seventh day will be a holy occasion; you must not do any job-related work.
9The LORD said to Moses: 10Speak to the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land that I am giving you and harvest its produce, you must bring the first bundle of your harvest to the priest. 11The priest will lift up the bundle before the LORD so that it will be acceptable on your behalf. The priest will do this on the day after the Sabbath. 12On the day the bundle is lifted up for you, you must offer a flawless one-year-old lamb as an entirely burned offering to the LORD. 13The accompanying grain offering must be two-tenths of an ephah#23.13 Four quarts dry; also in 23:17 of choice flour mixed with oil, as a food gift for the LORD, a soothing smell. The accompanying drink offering must be a quarter of a hin of wine. 14You must not eat any bread, roasted grain, or fresh grain until the exact day when you bring your God’s offering. This is a permanent rule throughout your future generations, wherever you live.
15You must count off seven weeks starting with the day after the Sabbath, the day you bring the bundle for the uplifted offering; these must be complete. 16You will count off fifty days until the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you must present a new grain offering to the LORD. 17From wherever you live, you will bring two loaves of bread as an uplifted offering. These must be made of two-tenths of an ephah of choice flour, baked with leaven, as early produce#23.17 Or firstfruits; also in 23:20 to the LORD. 18Along with the bread you must present seven flawless one-year-old lambs, one bull from the herd, and two rams. These will be an entirely burned offering to the LORD, along with their grain offerings and drink offerings, as a food gift of soothing smell to the LORD. 19You must also offer one male goat as a purification offering and two one-year-old lambs as a communal sacrifice of well-being. 20The priest will lift up the two sheep, along with the bread of the early produce, as an uplifted offering before the LORD. These will be holy to the LORD and will belong to the priest. 21On that very same day you must make a proclamation; it will be a holy occasion for you. You must not do any job-related work. This is a permanent rule wherever you live throughout your future generations. 22When you harvest your land’s produce, you must not harvest all the way to the edge of your field; and don’t gather every remaining bit of your harvest. Leave these items for the poor and the immigrant; I am the LORD your God.
23The LORD said to Moses: 24Say to the Israelites: On the first day of the seventh month,#23.24 September–October, Tishrei; also in 23:27, 33, 39, 41 you will have a special rest, a holy occasion marked by a trumpet signal. 25You must not do any job-related work, and you must offer a food gift to the LORD.
26The LORD said to Moses: 27Note that the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Reconciliation. It will be a holy occasion for you. You must deny yourselves and offer a food gift to the LORD. 28You must not do any work that day because it is a Day of Reconciliation to make reconciliation for you before the LORD your God. 29Anyone who does not deny themselves on that day will be cut off from their people. 30Moreover, I will destroy from their people anyone who does any work on that day. 31You must not do any work! This is a permanent rule throughout your future generations wherever you live. 32This is a Sabbath of special rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. You will observe your Sabbath on the ninth day of the month from evening to the following evening.
33The LORD said to Moses: 34Say to the Israelites: The Festival of Booths to the LORD will start on the fifteenth day of the seventh month and will last for seven days. 35The first day is a holy occasion. You must not do any job-related work. 36For seven days you will offer food gifts to the LORD. On the eighth day you will have a holy occasion and must offer a food gift to the LORD. It is a holiday: you must not do any job-related work.
37These are the LORD’s appointed times that you will proclaim as holy occasions, offering food gifts to the LORD: entirely burned offerings, grain offerings, communal sacrifices, and drink offerings—each on its proper day. 38This is in addition to the LORD’s sabbaths and in addition to your presents, all the payments for solemn promises, and all the spontaneous gifts that you give to the LORD.
39Note that on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered the land’s crops, you will celebrate the LORD’s festival for seven days. The first day and the eighth day are days of special rest. 40On the first day you must take fruit from majestic trees,#23.40 Or hadar trees palm branches, branches of leafy trees,#23.40 Heb uncertain and willows of the streams, and rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days. 41You will celebrate this festival to the LORD for seven days each year; this is a permanent rule throughout your future generations. You will celebrate it in the seventh month. 42For seven days you must live in huts. Every citizen of Israel must live in huts 43so that your future generations will know that I made the Israelites live in huts when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.
44So Moses announced the LORD’s appointed times to the Israelites.
