Yonah (Jon) 3

1The word of Adonai came to Yonah a second time: 2“Set out for the great city of Ninveh, and proclaim to it the message I will give you.” 3So Yonah set out and went to Ninveh, as Adonai had said. Now Ninveh was such a large city that it took three days just to cross it. 4Yonah began his entry into the city and had finished only his first day of proclaiming, ‘In forty days Ninveh will be overthrown,’ 5when the people of Ninveh believed God. They proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least. 6When the news reached the king of Ninveh, he got up from his throne, took off his robe, put on sackcloth and sat in ashes. 7He then had this proclamation made throughout Ninveh: “By decree of the king and his nobles, no person or animal, herd or flock, is to put anything in his mouth; they are neither to eat nor drink water. 8They must be covered with sackcloth, both people and animals; and they are to cry out to God with all their might — let each of them turn from his evil way and from the violence they practice. 9Who knows? Maybe God will change his mind, relent and turn from his fierce anger; and then we won’t perish.”

10When God saw by their deeds that they had turned from their evil way, he relented and did not bring on them the punishment he had threatened.

요나 3

니느웨로 가는 요나

1여호와께서 다시 요나에게 말씀하셨다.

2“너는 저 큰 니느웨성으로 가서 내가 전에 너에게 말한 대로 니느웨성의 멸망을 선포하라.”

3그래서 요나는 여호와의 말씀에 순종하여 니느웨로 갔다. 니느웨는 대단히 커서 한 바퀴 도는 데 걸어서 3일이나 걸리는 큰 성이었다.

4요나는 그 성에 들어가 하루 종일 돌아다니며 40일 후에는 그 성이 멸망할 것이라고 외쳤다.

5니느웨 사람들은 #3:5 또는 ‘하나님을믿고’요나가 전한 하나님의 말씀을 믿었다. 그래서 그들은 금식을 선포하고 신분이 높은 사람이나 낮은 사람이나 모두 #3:5 암시됨.회개하는 마음으로 굵은 삼베 옷을 입었다.

6그 소문을 들은 니느웨 왕은 자기 왕좌에서 일어나 왕복을 벗고 굵은 삼베 옷을 입고 잿더미에 앉았다.

7그러고서 왕은 니느웨 사람들에게 이런 조서를 내렸다. “이것은 왕과 대신들의 명령이다. 사람이나 짐승이나 일체 먹을 것을 입에 대서는 안 되며 물도 마셔서는 안 된다.

8사람이나 짐승이나 다 굵은 삼베를 걸칠 것이며 모든 사람들은 하나님께 진심으로 기도하고 각자 자기 잘못을 뉘우치고 악을 버려라.

9하나님이 혹시 뜻을 돌이키시고 분노를 거두셔서 우리를 멸망시키지 않으실지 누가 알겠는가!”

10하나님은 그들이 자기들의 잘못을 뉘우치고 악한 길에서 돌아서는 것을 보시고 뜻을 돌이키셔서 그들에게 내리겠다고 선언하신 재앙을 내리지 않으셨다.
