Ester (Est) 6
6
1That night, the king couldn’t sleep; so he ordered the records of the daily journal brought, and they were read to the king. 2It was found written that Mordekhai had told about Bigtana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers from the group in charge of the private entryways, who had conspired to assassinate King Achashverosh. 3The king asked, “What honor or distinction was conferred on Mordekhai for this?” The king’s servants answered, “Nothing was done for him.” 4The king then asked, “Who’s that in the courtyard?” For Haman had come into the outer courtyard of the king’s palace to speak to the king about hanging Mordekhai on the gallows he had prepared for him. 5The king’s servants told him, “It’s Haman standing there in the courtyard.” The king said, “Have him come in.” 6So Haman came in. The king said to him, “What should be done for a man that the king wants to honor?” Haman thought to himself, “Whom would the king want to honor more than me?” 7So Haman answered the king, “For a man the king wants to honor, 8have royal robes brought which the king himself wears and the horse the king himself rides, with a royal crown on its head. 9The robes and the horse should be handed over to one of the king’s most respected officials, and they should put the robes on the man the king wants to honor and lead him on horseback through the streets of the city, proclaiming ahead of him, ‘This is what is done for a man whom the king wants to honor.’” 10The king said to Haman, “Hurry, and take the robes and the horse, as you said, and do this for Mordekhai the Jew, who sits at the King’s Gate. Don’t leave out anything you mentioned.”
11So Haman took the robes and the horse, dressed Mordekhai and led him riding through the streets of the city, as he proclaimed ahead of him, “This is what is done for a man whom the king wants to honor.” 12Then Mordekhai returned to the King’s Gate; but Haman rushed home with his head covered in mourning.
13After Haman had told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him, his advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, “If Mordekhai, before whom you have begun to fall, is a Jew, you will not get the better of him; on the contrary, your downfall before him is certain.”
14While they were still talking with him, the king’s officials came, hurrying to bring Haman to the banquet Ester had prepared.

The King Honors Mordecai
1That night the king could not sleep. So one was commanded to bring #Esth. 2:23, 10:2the book of the records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king. 2And it was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, the doorkeepers who had sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. 3Then the king said, “What honor or dignity has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?”
And the king’s servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.”
4So the king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had just entered #Esth. 5:1the outer court of the king’s palace #Esth. 5:14to suggest that the king hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5The king’s servants said to him, “Haman is there, standing in the court.”
And the king said, “Let him come in.”
6So Haman came in, and the king asked him, “What shall be done for the man whom the king delights to honor?”
Now Haman thought in his heart, “Whom would the king delight to honor more than #(Prov. 16:18; 18:12)me?” 7And Haman answered the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor, 8let a royal robe be brought which the king has worn, and #1 Kin. 1:33a horse on which the king has ridden, which has a royal crest placed on its head. 9Then let this robe and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that he may array the man whom the king delights to honor. Then parade him on horseback through the city square, #Gen. 41:43and proclaim before him: ‘Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’ ”
10Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry, take the robe and the horse, as you have suggested, and do so for Mordecai the Jew who sits within the king’s gate! Leave nothing undone of all that you have spoken.”
11So Haman took the robe and the horse, arrayed Mordecai and led him on horseback through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!”
12Afterward Mordecai went back to the king’s gate. But Haman #2 Chr. 26:20hurried to his house, mourning #2 Sam. 15:30; Jer. 14:3, 4and with his head covered. 13When Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened to him, his wise men and his wife Zeresh said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against #(Gen. 12:3); Zech. 2:8him but will surely fall before him.”
14While they were still talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hastened to bring Haman to #Esth. 5:8the banquet which Esther had prepared.
