M'lakhim Bet (2 Ki) 12
12
1Y’ho’ash was seven years old when he began his reign. 2It was in the seventh year of Yehu that Y’ho’ash began to rule, and he ruled forty years in Yerushalayim. His mother’s name was Tzivyah, from Be’er-Sheva. 3Y’ho’ash did what was right from Adonai’s perspective throughout the lifetime of Y’hoyada the cohen, who instructed him. 4Nevertheless the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and presented offerings on the high places.
5Y’ho’ash said to the cohanim, “All the funds for sacred purposes which are brought to the house of Adonai — the half-shekel tax, the taxes on persons in a man’s household, and all the offerings anyone voluntarily brings to the house of Adonai — 6the cohanim are to receive from whoever personally makes contributions to them; and they are to use these funds to repair the damaged parts of the house, wherever damage is found. 7But twenty-three years into the reign of King Y’ho’ash, the cohanim had still not repaired the damaged places in the house. 8So King Y’ho’ash summoned Y’hoyada the cohen and the other cohanim and said to them, “Why aren’t you repairing the damaged places in the house? Therefore, you are no longer to take money from those who contribute it personally to you; you must hand it over to be used for repairing the damage in the house.” 9The cohanim agreed not to receive money from the people, and they would no longer be responsible for repairing the damage to the house.
10Then Y’hoyada the cohen took a chest, drilled a hole in its lid and set it by the altar, on the right, as one enters the house of Adonai; and the cohanim in charge of the entry put in it all the money brought into the house of Adonai. 11When they saw that there was a large amount of money in the chest, the king’s secretary and the cohen hagadol would come up, count the money found in the house of Adonai and put it in bags. 12Then they would give the weighed-out money to those supervising the work in the house of Adonai, who would use it to pay the carpenters and construction-workers doing the work in the house of Adonai, 13on masons, stone-workers, timber, worked stone and everything else needed for repairing the damaged places in the house of Adonai. 14But none of the money brought into the house of Adonai was used to make silver cups, snuffers, bowls, trumpets or other articles of gold or silver for the house of Adonai; 15because they gave the money to those doing the work, thus restricting its use to repairing the damage in the house of Adonai. 16Moreover, they did not require an accounting from the supervisors given the money to pay the workers, because they dealt honestly. 17Money from guilt offerings and sin offerings, however, was not brought into the house of Adonai; it went to the cohanim.
18Haza’el king of Aram went up and fought against Gat; and after capturing it, Haza’el made his decision to attack Yerushalayim. 19Y’ho’ash king of Y’hudah took all the consecrated articles that Y’hoshafat, Y’horam and Achazyah, his ancestors, kings of Y’hudah, had dedicated, as well as his own consecrated articles and all the gold found in the treasuries of the house of Adonai and of the royal palace, and sent them to Haza’el king of Aram, who then withdrew from Yerushalayim.
20Other activities of Yo’ash and all his accomplishments are recorded in the Annals of the Kings of Y’hudah.
21Then his servants got together, formed a conspiracy and murdered Yo’ash at Beit-Millo on the way down to Sila. 22His servants Yozakhar the son of Shim‘at and Y’hozavad the son of Shomer struck him, so that he died. They buried him with his ancestors in the City of David, and Amatzyah his son took his place as king.

King Joash of Judah
(2 Chr 24.1–16)
1In the seventh year of the reign of King Jehu of Israel, Joash became king of Judah, and he ruled in Jerusalem for forty years. His mother was Zibiah from the city of Beersheba. 2Throughout his life he did what pleased the LORD, because Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 3However, the pagan places of worship were not destroyed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.

Ex 30.11–16
Joash called the priests and ordered them to save up the money paid in connection with the sacrifices in the Temple, both the dues paid for the regular sacrifices and the money given as freewill gifts. 5Each priest was to be responsible for the money brought by those he served, and the money was to be used to repair the Temple, as needed.
6But by the 23rd year of Joash's reign the priests still had not made any repairs to the Temple. 7So he called in Jehoiada and the other priests and asked them, “Why aren't you repairing the Temple? From now on you are not to keep the money you receive; you must hand it over, so that the repairs can be made.” 8The priests agreed to this and also agreed not to make the repairs in the Temple.
9Then Jehoiada took a box, made a hole in the lid, and placed the box by the altar, on the right side as one enters the Temple. The priests on duty at the entrance put in the box all the money given by the worshippers. 10Whenever there was a large amount of money in the box, the royal secretary and the High Priest would come, melt down the silver, and weigh it.#12.10 melt down the silver, and weigh it; or count the money, and tie it up in bags. 11After recording the exact amount, they would hand the silver over to the men in charge of the work in the Temple, and these would pay the carpenters, the builders, 12the masons, and the stonecutters, buy the timber and the stones used in the repairs, and pay all other necessary expenses. 13None of the money, however, was used to pay for making silver cups, bowls, trumpets, or tools for tending the lamps, or any other article of silver or of gold. 14It was all used to pay the workers and to buy the materials used in the repairs. 15#2 Kgs 22.7The men in charge of the work were thoroughly honest, so there was no need to require them to account for the funds. 16#Lev 7.7The money given for the repayment offerings and for the offerings for sin was not deposited in the box; it belonged to the priests.
17At that time King Hazael of Syria attacked the city of Gath and conquered it; then he decided to attack Jerusalem. 18King Joash of Judah took all the offerings that his predecessors Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah had dedicated to the LORD, added to them his own offerings and all the gold in the treasuries of the Temple and the palace, and sent them all as a gift to King Hazael, who then led his army away from Jerusalem.
19Everything else that King Joash did is recorded in The History of the Kings of Judah.
20-21King Joash's officials plotted against him, and two of them, Jozacar son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer, killed him at the house built on the land that was filled in on the east side of Jerusalem, on the road that goes down to Silla. Joash was buried in the royal tombs in David's City, and his son Amaziah succeeded him as king.
