1 Timothy (1 Ti) 3
3
1Here is a statement you can trust: anyone aspiring to be a congregation leader is seeking worthwhile work. 2A congregation leader must be above reproach, he must be faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, orderly, hospitable and able to teach. 3He must not drink excessively or get into fights; rather, he must be kind and gentle. He must not be a lover of money. 4He must manage his own household well, having children who obey him with all proper respect; 5for if a man can’t manage his own household, how will he be able to care for God’s Messianic Community? 6He must not be a new believer, because he might become puffed up with pride and thus fall under the same judgment as did the Adversary. 7Furthermore, he must be well regarded by outsiders, so that he won’t fall into disgrace and into the Adversary’s trap.
8Likewise, the shammashim must be of good character, people whose word can be trusted. They must not give themselves to excessive drinking or be greedy for dishonest gain. 9They must possess the formerly hidden truth of the faith with a clean conscience. 10And first, let them be tested; then, if they prove themselves blameless, let them be appointed shammashim. 11Similarly, the wives must be of good character, not gossips, but temperate, faithful in everything. 12Let the shammashim each be faithful to his wife, managing his children and household well. 13For those who serve well as shammashim gain good standing for themselves and much boldness in the trust that comes through Yeshua the Messiah.
14I hope to visit you soon; but I am writing these things 15so that if I am delayed, you may know how one should behave in the household of God, which is the Messianic Community of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth. 16Great beyond all question is the formerly hidden truth underlying our faith:
He was manifested physically
and proved righteous spiritually,
seen by angels
and proclaimed among the nations,
trusted throughout the world
and raised up in glory to heaven.

1Stedfast [is] the word: If any one the oversight doth long for, a right work he desireth;
2it behoveth, therefore, the overseer to be blameless, of one wife a husband, vigilant, sober, decent, a friend of strangers, apt to teach,
3not given to wine, not a striker, not given to filthy lucre, but gentle, not contentious, not a lover of money,
4his own house leading well, having children in subjection with all gravity,
5(and if any one his own house [how] to lead hath not known, how an assembly of God shall he take care of?)
6not a new convert, lest having been puffed up he may fall to a judgment of the devil;
7and it behoveth him also to have a good testimony from those without, that he may not fall into reproach and a snare of the devil.
8Ministrants — in like manner grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not given to filthy lucre,
9having the secret of the faith in a pure conscience,
10and let these also first be proved, then let them minister, being unblameable.
11Women — in like manner grave, not false accusers, vigilant, faithful in all things.
12Ministrants — let them be of one wife husbands; the children leading well, and their own houses,
13for those who did minister well a good step to themselves do acquire, and much boldness in faith that [is] in Christ Jesus.
14These things I write to thee, hoping to come unto thee soon,
15and if I delay, that thou mayest know how it behoveth [thee] to conduct thyself in the house of God, which is an assembly of the living God — a pillar and foundation of the truth,
16and, confessedly, great is the secret of piety — God was manifested in flesh, declared righteous in spirit, seen by messengers, preached among nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory!
