1 Corinthians (1 Co) 8
8
1Now about food sacrificed to idols: we know that, as you say, “We all have knowledge.” Yes, that is so, but “knowledge” puffs a person up with pride; whereas love builds up. 2The person who thinks he “knows” something doesn’t yet know in the way he ought to know. 3However, if someone loves God, God knows him.
4So, as for eating food sacrificed to idols, we “know” that, as you say, “An idol has no real existence in the world, and there is only one God.” 5For even if there are so-called “gods,” either in heaven or on earth — as in fact there are “gods” and “lords” galore — 6yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom all things come and for whom we exist; and one Lord, Yeshua the Messiah, through whom were created all things and through whom we have our being.
7But not everyone has this knowledge. Moreover, some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat food which has been sacrificed to them, they think of it as really affected by the idol; and their consciences, being weak, are thus defiled. 8Now food will not improve our relationship with God — we will be neither poorer if we abstain nor richer if we eat. 9However watch out that your mastery of the situation does not become a stumbling block to the weak. 10You have this “knowledge”; but suppose someone with a weak conscience sees you sitting, eating a meal in the temple of an idol. Won’t he be built up wrongly to eat this food which has been sacrificed to idols? 11Thus by your “knowledge” this weak person is destroyed, this brother for whom the Messiah died; 12and so, when you sin against the brothers by wounding their conscience when it is weak, you are sinning against the Messiah!
13To sum up, if food will be a snare for my brother, I will never eat meat again, lest I cause my brother to sin.

Rom 15.14. Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” “Knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. 2#1 Cor 3.18; 13.8,9,12. If any one imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. 3#Gal 4.9; Rom 8.29. But if one loves God, one is known by him.

1 Cor 10.19; Deut 6.4. Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.” 5For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords” — 6#Mal 2.10; Eph 4.6; Rom 11.36; 1 Cor 1.2; Eph 4.5; Jn 1.3; Col 1.16. yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.

1 Cor 8.4-5. However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through being hitherto accustomed to idols, eat food as really offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8#Rom 14.17. Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. 9#1 Cor 8.10-11; Rom 14.1. Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. 10For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? 11#Rom 14.15,20. And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. 12#Mt 18.6; Rom 14.20. Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. 13#Rom 14.21. Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother's falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall.
