Psalms 77
77
For the Chief Musician; after the manner of Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.
1I will cry unto God with my voice,
Even unto God with my voice; and he will give ear unto me.
2In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord:
My hand was stretched out in the night, and slacked not;
My soul refused to be comforted.
3I remember God, and am disquieted:
I complain, and my spirit is overwhelmed. [Selah
4Thou holdest mine eyes watching:
I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
5I have considered the days of old,
The years of ancient times.
6I call to remembrance my song in the night:
I commune with mine own heart;
And my spirit maketh diligent search.
7Will the Lord cast off for ever?
And will he be favorable no more?
8Is his lovingkindness clean gone for ever?
Doth his promise fail for evermore?
9Hath God forgotten to be gracious?
Hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? [Selah
10And I said, This is my infirmity;
But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.
11I will make mention of the deeds of Jehovah;
For I will remember thy wonders of old.
12I will meditate also upon all thy work,
And muse on thy doings.
13Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary:
Who is a great god like unto God?
14Thou art the God that doest wonders:
Thou hast made known thy strength among the peoples.
15Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people,
The sons of Jacob and Joseph. [Selah
16The waters saw thee, O God;
The waters saw thee, they were afraid:
The depths also trembled.
17The clouds poured out water;
The skies sent out a sound:
Thine arrows also went abroad.
18The voice of thy thunder was in the whirlwind;
The lightnings lightened the world:
The earth trembled and shook.
19Thy way was in the sea,
And thy paths in the great waters,
And thy footsteps were not known.
20Thou leddest thy people like a flock,
By the hand of Moses and Aaron.

In the Day of Trouble I Seek the Lord
To the choirmaster: according to #Ps. 39, title Jeduthun. A Psalm of #Ps. 50, titleAsaph.
1I #See Ps. 3:4cry aloud to God,
aloud to God, and he will hear me.
2 #
Ps. 86:7; [Ps. 20:1; 50:15; Isa. 26:16] In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;
in #Ps. 63:6; Isa. 26:9 the night my #[Ps. 143:6] hand is stretched out without wearying;
my soul #Gen. 37:35refuses to be comforted.
3When I remember God, I #Ps. 42:5, 11; 43:5moan;
when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah
4You hold my eyelids open;
I am so #[Gen. 41:8]troubled that I cannot speak.
5I consider #ver. 10, 11; Ps. 44:1; 143:5; Deut. 32:7; Isa. 51:9the days of old,
the years long ago.
6I said,#77:6 Hebrew lacks I said “Let me remember my #See Ps. 42:8 song in the night;
let me #Ps. 4:4meditate in my heart.”
Then my spirit made a diligent search:
7“Will the Lord #See Ps. 44:9 spurn forever,
and never again #Ps. 85:1be favorable?
8Has his steadfast love forever ceased?
Are his #[Rom. 9:6]promises at an end for all time?
9 # [Isa. 49:15] Has God forgotten to be gracious?
# [Hab. 3:2] Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah
10Then I said, “I will appeal to this,
to the years of the #[Ps. 118:15]right hand of the Most High.”#77:10 Or This is my grief: that the right hand of the Most High has changed
11I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will #ver. 5; Ps. 105:5remember your wonders of old.
12I will ponder all your #Ps. 90:16 work,
and meditate on your #Ps. 9:11mighty deeds.
13Your way, O God, is #Ps. 73:17 holy.
# See Ps. 35:10 What god is great like our God?
14You are the God who #See Ps. 72:18 works wonders;
you have #Ps. 106:8made known your might among the peoples.
15You #[Ps. 74:2; Ex. 6:6; Deut. 9:29]with your arm redeemed your people,
the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
16When #Ps. 114:3; Ex. 14:21; Josh. 3:15, 16; Hab. 3:10the waters saw you, O God,
when the waters saw you, they were afraid;
indeed, the deep trembled.
17The clouds poured out water;
the skies #[Ps. 68:33] gave forth thunder;
your #See Ps. 18:14arrows flashed on every side.
18 #
Ps. 104:7 The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind;
#
Ps. 97:4 your lightnings lighted up the world;
the earth #See Ps. 18:7trembled and shook.
19Your #Hab. 3:15 way was through the sea,
your path through the great waters;
yet your footprints #See Ps. 36:6were unseen.#77:19 Hebrew unknown
20You #Ps. 78:52, 53; 80:1; Ex. 13:21; 14:19; Isa. 63:11, 12led your people like a flock
by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
