Exodus 40
40
1And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 2On the first day of the first month shalt thou rear up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. 3And thou shalt put therein the ark of the testimony, and thou shalt screen the ark with the veil. 4And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are upon it; and thou shalt bring in the candlestick, and light the lamps thereof. 5And thou shalt set the golden altar for incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the screen of the door to the tabernacle. 6And thou shalt set the altar of burnt-offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. 7And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar, and shalt put water therein. 8And thou shalt set up the court round about, and hang up the screen of the gate of the court. 9And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the furniture thereof: and it shall be holy. 10And thou shalt anoint the altar of burnt-offering, and all its vessels, and sanctify the altar: and the altar shall be most holy. 11And thou shalt anoint the laver and its base, and sanctify it. 12And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tent of meeting, and shalt wash them with water. 13And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments; and thou shalt anoint him, and sanctify him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office. 14And thou shalt bring his sons, and put coats upon them; 15and thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office: and their anointing shall be to them for an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations. 16Thus did Moses: according to all that Jehovah commanded him, so did he.
17And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up. 18And Moses reared up the tabernacle, and laid its sockets, and set up the boards thereof, and put in the bars thereof, and reared up its pillars. 19And he spread the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as Jehovah commanded Moses. 20And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staves on the ark, and put the mercy-seat above upon the ark: 21and he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the veil of the screen, and screened the ark of the testimony; as Jehovah commanded Moses. 22And he put the table in the tent of meeting, upon the side of the tabernacle northward, without the veil. 23And he set the bread in order upon it before Jehovah; as Jehovah commanded Moses. 24And he put the candlestick in the tent of meeting, over against the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward. 25And he lighted the lamps before Jehovah; as Jehovah commanded Moses. 26And he put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the veil: 27and he burnt thereon incense of sweet spices; as Jehovah commanded Moses. 28And he put the screen of the door to the tabernacle. 29And he set the altar of burnt-offering at the door of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered upon it the burnt-offering and the meal-offering; as Jehovah commanded Moses. 30And he set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water therein, wherewith to wash. 31And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet thereat; 32when they went into the tent of meeting, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as Jehovah commanded Moses. 33And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the screen of the gate of the court. So Moses finished the work.
34Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle. 35And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of meeting, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle. 36And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward, throughout all their journeys: 37but if the cloud was not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up. 38For the cloud of Jehovah was upon the tabernacle by day, and there was fire therein by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

The Tabernacle Erected
1The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2“On the #[ch. 12:2; 13:4] first day of the first month you shall #ver. 17; ch. 26:30erect the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. 3And you shall put in it the ark of the testimony, and you shall #ver. 21; [ch. 35:12]screen the ark with the veil. 4And #ver. 22; ch. 26:35 you shall bring in the table and arrange it, and #ver. 24, 25you shall bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. 5#ver. 26; [ch. 39:38]And you shall put the golden altar for incense before the ark of the testimony, and set up the screen for the door of the tabernacle. 6#ver. 29You shall set the altar of burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, 7#ver. 30; ch. 30:18and place the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it. 8And you shall set up the court all around, and hang up the screen for the gate of the court.
9“Then you shall take the #ch. 30:26anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and consecrate it and all its furniture, so that it may become holy. 10You shall also anoint #ch. 30:28 the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar, #ch. 29:37so that the altar may become most holy. 11You shall also anoint the basin and its stand, and consecrate it. 12#See Lev. 8:1-13Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent of meeting and shall wash them with water 13and put on Aaron the holy garments. And you shall anoint him and consecrate him, that he may serve me as priest. 14You shall bring his sons also and put coats on them, 15#ch. 28:41; 29:7 and anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may serve me as priests. And their anointing shall admit them to a #Num. 25:13perpetual priesthood throughout their generations.”
16This Moses did; according to all that the Lord commanded him, so he did. 17In the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, #ver. 2; Num. 7:1the tabernacle was erected. 18Moses erected the tabernacle. He laid its bases, and set up its frames, and put in its poles, and raised up its pillars. 19And he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent over it, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 20He #ch. 25:16; See ch. 16:34took the testimony and put it into the ark, and put the poles on the ark and set the mercy seat above on the ark. 21And he brought the ark into the tabernacle and #ver. 3; See ch. 35:12 set up the veil of the screen, and screened #ver. 3, 20the ark of the testimony, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 22#ver. 4; ch. 26:35He put the table in the tent of meeting, on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil, 23and arranged the bread on it before the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 24#ch. 26:35He put the lampstand in the tent of meeting, opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle, 25#ver. 4; ch. 25:37and set up the lamps before the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 26#ver. 5; ch. 30:6, 7He put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the veil, 27and burned fragrant incense on it, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 28#ver. 5; ch. 26:36He put in place the screen for the door of the tabernacle. 29#ver. 6 And he set the altar of burnt offering at the entrance of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the #ch. 29:41; 30:9grain offering, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 30#ver. 7He set the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it for washing, 31with which Moses and #ch. 30:19, 20 Aaron and his sons #ch. 30:21washed their hands and their feet. 32When they went into the tent of meeting, and when they approached the altar, they washed, as the Lord commanded Moses. 33#ver. 8; ch. 27:9, 16 And he erected the court around the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the screen of the gate of the court. So #[Heb. 3:2, 5]Moses finished the work.
The Glory of the Lord
34Then #See ch. 13:21 the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and #ch. 29:43; Lev. 16:2; Num. 9:15; [1 Kgs. 8:10, 11; 2 Chr. 5:13, 14; 7:2; Isa. 6:4; Hag. 2:7, 9; Rev. 15:8]the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 36Throughout all their journeys, #Num. 9:17; 10:11; [Neh. 9:19]whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out. 37But #See Num. 9:19-22if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out till the day that it was taken up. 38For the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.
