Psalms 51
51
For the Music Director. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the Prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
1Have mercy on me, O God,
according to Your lovingkindness;
according to the abundance of Your compassion,
blot out my transgressions. # Isa 43:25; Ac 3:19
2Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, # Ps 51:7; Rev 1:5
and cleanse me from my sin. # 1Jn 1:9
3For I acknowledge my transgressions, # Ps 32:5; Isa 59:12
and my sin is ever before me.
4Against You, You only, have I sinned,
and done what is evil in Your sight, # Ge 20:6; Lk 15:21
so that You are justified when you speak,
and blameless when You pass judgment.
5Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, # Job 14:4; Ps 58:3
and in sin my mother conceived me.
6Behold, You desire truth in the inward being, # Job 38:36
and in my secret heart You will teach me wisdom.
7Purge me with hyssop, # Heb 9:19 and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. # Isa 1:18
8Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that You have broken rejoice.
9Hide Your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities. # Jer 16:17
10Create in me a clean heart, O God, # Mt 5:8; Ac 15:9
and renew a right spirit within me.
11Cast me not away from Your presence, # 2Ki 13:23
and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. # Eph 4:30
12Restore unto me the joy of Your salvation, # Ps 13:5
and uphold me with Your willing spirit.
13Then will I teach transgressors Your ways, # Lk 22:32
and sinners will return to You.
14Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, # 2Sa 12:9
O God of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of Your righteousness. # Ps 35:28
15O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare Your praise.
16For You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering. # Ps 40:6
17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and a contrite heart, # Ps 34:18
O God, You will not despise.
18Do good to Zion in Your good pleasure; # Ps 102:16
build the walls of Jerusalem.
19Then You will be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, # Ps 4:5
with burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
then bulls will be offered on Your altar.

A Prayer for Cleansing
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him,#2 Sam 12.1-15. after he had gone in to Bath–she´ba.
1Have mercy upon me, O God,
according to thy loving-kindness:
according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies
blot out my transgressions.
2Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin.
3For I acknowledge my transgressions:
and my sin is ever before me.
4 #
Rom 3.4. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned,
and done this evil in thy sight:
that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest,
and be clear when thou judgest.
5Behold, I was shapen in iniquity;
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts:
and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean:
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8Make me to hear joy and gladness;
that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9Hide thy face from my sins,
and blot out all mine iniquities.
10Create in me a clean heart, O God;
and renew a right spirit within me.
11Cast me not away from thy presence;
and take not thy Holy Spirit from me.
12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;
and uphold me with thy free Spirit.
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways;
and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God,
thou God of my salvation:
and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
15O Lord, open thou my lips;
and my mouth shall show forth thy praise.
16For thou desirest not sacrifice;
else would I give it:
thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit:
a broken and a contrite heart, O God,
thou wilt not despise.
18Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion:
build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,
with burnt offering and whole burnt offering:
then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
