Psalms 5
5
For the Music Director. With the flutes. A Psalm of David.
1Give ear to my words, O Lord; # Ps 54:2
consider my meditation.
2Listen to the voice of my cry, # Ps 3:4
my King and my God,
for to You will I pray. # Ps 65:2
3O Lord, in the morning You will hear my voice;
in the morning I will direct my prayer to You, # Ps 88:13; 119:147
and I will look up expectantly.
4For You are not a God who has pleasure in wickedness,
nor will evil dwell with You.
5Those who boast will not stand in Your sight; # Ps 1:5
You hate all workers of iniquity. # Ps 11:5
6You will destroy those who speak lies; # Ps 55:23; Rev 21:8
the Lord abhors
the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
7But as for me, in the abundance of Your mercy
I will enter Your house; # 1Ki 8:29–30
in fear of You I will worship
at Your holy temple. # Ps 138:2
8Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness
because of my enemies;
make Your way straight before me. # Ps 25:4–5; 27:11
9For there is no uprightness in their mouth;
destruction is in their midst;
their throat is an open tomb;
they flatter with their tongue. # Ps 52:2; 62:4; Ro 3:13
10Declare them guilty, O God;
let them fall by their own counsels; # 2Sa 15:31; 17:14
cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions,
for they have rebelled against You.
11But let all those who take refuge in You rejoice; # Ps 2:12
let them ever shout for joy,
because You defend them;
let those who love Your name be joyful in You.
12For You, Lord, will bless the righteous; # Ps 29:11
You surround him with favor like a shield. # Ps 32:10
