Psalms 38
38
A Psalm of David. To bring remembrance.
1O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath,
nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure! # Ps 6:1
2For Your arrows pierce me, # Job 6:4
and Your hand presses down on me. # Ps 32:4
3There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your indignation,
nor is there health in my bones because of my sin. # Ps 6:2; 51:8
4For my iniquities have gone over my head; # Ezr 9:6
like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. # Ps 40:12
5My wounds grow foul and fester
because of my foolishness.
6I am bent down, I am bowed down greatly;
I go around mourning all day long. # Job 30:28; Ps 35:14
7For my loins are filled with burning,
and there is no soundness in my flesh.
8I am feeble and severely broken;
I groan because of the disquietness of my heart. # Job 3:24; Ps 32:3
9O Lord, all my longing is before You,
and my sighing is not hidden from You. # Ps 6:6; 102:5
10My heart throbs, my strength fails me;
as for the light of my eyes, it also has gone from me. # Ps 6:7; 69:3
11My friends and my companions stand aloof from my affliction,
and relatives stand far off. # Ps 31:11; Lk 23:49
12Those who seek my life lay their snares;
those who seek my harm speak of destruction,
and plan treachery all day long. # Ps 35:20; 140:5
13But I, like a deaf man, do not hear;
I am like a mute who does not speak. # Ps 39:2, 9
14Thus I am like a man who does not hear,
and in whose mouth is no response.
15For in You, O Lord, do I hope; # Ps 39:7
it is You, O Lord my God, who will answer.
16For I said, “Hear me, lest they rejoice over me,
lest, when my foot slips, they exalt themselves against me.” # Ps 94:18
17For I am ready to fall,
and my pain is continually before me.
18I confess my iniquity; # Ps 32:5; Pr 28:13
I am sorry for my sin.
19But my enemies are vigorous, and they are strong;
and those who wrongfully hate me are many. # Ps 35:19
20Those who render evil for good attack me # Ps 35:12; 1Jn 3:12
because I pursue good.
21Do not forsake me, O Lord;
O my God, do not be far from me. # Ps 22:19
22Make haste to help me, # Ps 40:13
O Lord, my salvation. # Ps 27:1

Psalm 38
38
A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.
1O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath:
Neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
2For thine arrows stick fast in me,
And thy hand presseth me sore.
3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger;
Neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
4For mine iniquities are gone over mine head:
As an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
5My wounds stink and are corrupt
Because of my foolishness.
6I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly;
I go mourning all the day long.
7For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease:
And there is no soundness in my flesh.
8I am feeble and sore broken:
I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.
9Lord, all my desire is before thee;
And my groaning is not hid from thee.
10My heart panteth, my strength faileth me:
As for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.
11My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore;
And my kinsmen stand afar off.
12They also that seek after my life lay snares for me:
And they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
13But I, as a deaf man, heard not;
And I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.
14Thus I was as a man that heareth not,
And in whose mouth are no reproofs.
15For in thee, O LORD, do I hope:
Thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
16For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me:
When my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.
17For I am ready to halt,
And my sorrow is continually before me.
18For I will declare mine iniquity;
I will be sorry for my sin.
19But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong:
And they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
20They also that render evil for good
Are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.
21Forsake me not, O LORD:
O my God, be not far from me.
22Make haste to help me,
O Lord my salvation.
