Psalms 2
2
1Why do the nations rage,
and the peoples plot in vain?
2#Ps 63:1; 84:2 The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord
and against His anointed, saying,
3#Ps 79:10; 80:5 “Let us tear off their bonds
and cast away their ropes from us.”
4#Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8 He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord ridicules them.
5#Ps 42:11; 43:5 Then He will speak to them in His wrath
and terrify them in His burning anger:
6#2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8–9 “I have installed My king
on Zion, My holy hill.”
7#Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3I will declare the decree of the Lord:
He said to me, “You are My son;
this day have I begotten you.
8#Job 35:10; Ps 63:6 Ask of Me,
and I will give you the nations for your inheritance,
and the ends of the earth for your possession.
9#Ps 38:6; 18:2 You will break them with a scepter of iron;
you will dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
10#Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17 Now then, you kings, be wise;
be admonished, you judges of the earth.
11#Ps 42:5; 43:5 Serve the Lord with fear;
tremble with trepidation!
12Kiss the son, lest He become angry,
and you perish in the way,
for His wrath kindles in a flash.
Blessed are all who seek refuge in Him.

God's Chosen King
1 #
Acts 4.25–26
Why do the nations plan rebellion?
Why do people make their useless plots?
2Their kings revolt,
their rulers plot together against the LORD
and against the king he chose.
3“Let us free ourselves from their rule,” they say;
“let us throw off their control.”
4From his throne in heaven the Lord laughs
and mocks their feeble plans.
5Then he warns them in anger
and terrifies them with his fury.
6“On Zion,#2.6 Zion: See Zion in Word List. my sacred hill,” he says,
“I have installed my king.”
7 #
Acts 13.33; Heb 1.5; 5.5 “I will announce,” says the king, “what the LORD has declared.
He said to me: ‘You are my son;
today I have become your father.
8Ask, and I will give you all the nations;
the whole earth will be yours.
9 #
Rev 2.26–27; 12.5; 19.15 You will break them with an iron rod;
you will shatter them in pieces like a clay pot.’ ”
10Now listen to this warning, you kings;
learn this lesson, you rulers of the world:
11Serve the LORD with fear;
12tremble and bow down to him;#2.12 Probable text tremble… him; some other possible texts with trembling kiss his feet and with trembling kiss the Son and tremble and kiss the mighty one; Hebrew unclear.
or else his anger will be quickly aroused,
and you will suddenly die.
Happy are all who go to him for protection.
