15
1A soft answer turns away wrath, # Jdg 8:1–3; Pr 15:18; 25:15
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
2The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright,
but the mouth of fools pours out folly. # Pr 12:23; 13:16
3The eyes of the Lord are in every place, # Jer 16:17; Heb 4:13
watching on the evil and the good.
4A tongue of healing is a tree of life, # Pr 3:18; 12:18
but perversity therein is crushing to the spirit.
5A fool spurns the instruction of his father, # Pr 10:1; 13:1
but he who heeds reproof is prudent.
6In the house of the righteous is much treasure, # Pr 8:21
but in the revenue of the wicked is trouble.
7The lips of the wise disperse knowledge, # Mt 12:34
but not so the heart of fools.
8The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, # Pr 21:27
but the prayer of the upright is His delight. # Pr 15:29
9The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord,
but He loves him who pursues righteousness. # Pr 21:21; 1Ti 6:11
10Discipline is severe for him who forsakes the way,
and he who hates reproof will die. # Pr 5:12; 12:1
11Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the Lord;
how much more the hearts of the sons of men. # 2Ch 6:30; Ps 44:21
12A scoffer does not love one who reproves him, # Am 5:10
nor will he go to the wise.
13A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, # Pr 12:25
but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. # Pr 17:22; 18:14
14The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge,
but the mouths of fools feed on folly.
15All the days of the afflicted are evil,
but he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast.
16Better is little with the fear of the Lord
than great treasure with trouble. # Ps 37:16; Pr 16:8
17Better is a meal of herbs where love is
than a fattened calf with hatred. # Pr 17:1
18An angry man stirs up strife, # Pr 26:21; 29:22
but he who is slow to anger pacifies a quarrel.

but the path of the righteous is a highway.

but a foolish man despises his mother.
21Folly is joy to him who is destitute of discernment,

22Without counsel plans go amiss,
but in the multitude of counselors they succeed. # Pr 11:14; 20:18
23A man has joy in the apt reply of his mouth,
and a timely word spoken, how good it is! # Pr 12:14; Isa 50:4
24The way of life leads upward for the wise,
that he may depart from Sheol below. # Pr 2:18
25The Lord will destroy the house of the proud,
but He will maintain the boundary of the widow. # Ps 146:9; Pr 12:7
26The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord,
but the words of the pure are pleasant.
27He who is greedy of unjust gain troubles his own house, # Pr 1:19
but he who hates bribes will live. # Ex 23:8
28The heart of the righteous reflects on how to reply, # 1Pe 3:15
but the mouth of the wicked spews out evil. # Pr 15:2
29The Lord is far from the wicked,
but He hears the prayer of the righteous. # Ps 145:18–19; Pr 15:8
30The light of the eyes rejoices the heart,
and a good report gives health to the bones. # Pr 25:25
31The ear that hears the reproof of life # Pr 15:5; 25:12
abides at home among the wise.
32He who refuses instruction despises his own soul,
but he who heeds reproof gains understanding.
33The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, # Pr 1:7
and before honor is humility. # Pr 18:12
