but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.
2Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, # Pr 21:6
but righteousness delivers from death. # Pr 11:4
3The Lord will not let the soul of the righteous go hungry, # Ps 34:9–10; 37:25
but He rejects the craving of the wicked.
4He who has an idle hand becomes poor,
but the hand of the diligent brings wealth. # Pr 12:24; 13:4; 21:5
5He who gathers in summer is a wise son, # Pr 6:8
but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame. # Pr 17:2
6Blessings are on the head of the righteous, # Pr 28:20
but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. # Pr 10:11
7The memory of the righteous is blessed, # Ps 112:6
but the name of the wicked will rot. # Ps 9:5–6
8The wise in heart will receive commands,
but a prating fool will fall.
9He who walks with integrity # Ps 23:4; Pr 28:18 walks securely,
but he who perverts his ways will be found out.
10He who winks with the eye # Ps 35:19; Pr 6:13 causes trouble,
and a prating fool will fall.
11The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, # Pr 13:14
but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. # Pr 10:6
12Hatred stirs up strife,
but love covers all offenses. # Pr 17:9; 1Pe 4:8
13On the lips of him who has understanding, wisdom is found,
but a rod # Pr 26:3 is for the back of him who lacks understanding. # Pr 6:32
14Wise men store up knowledge,
but the mouth of the fool brings destruction near. # Pr 10:8; 18:7
15The wealth of the rich man is his strong city; # Pr 18:11
the poverty of the poor is their destruction.
16The wages of the righteous leads to life;
the increase of the wicked leads to sin.
17He who heeds instruction is on the path of life,
but he who refuses reproof goes astray. # Pr 6:23
18He who conceals hatred has lying lips,
and he who utters slander is a fool.
19When words are many, sin is not lacking, # Ecc 5:3
but he who restrains his lips is wise. # Jas 1:19; 3:2
20The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver;
the heart of the wicked is of little worth.
21The lips of the righteous feed many,
but fools die for lack of wisdom. # Pr 5:23; Hos 4:6
22The blessing of the Lord makes rich, # Ge 24:35; 26:12
and He adds no toil to it.
23Doing evil is like sport to a fool; # Pr 2:14; 15:21
so is wisdom to a man of understanding.
24The fear of the wicked will come upon him,
but the desire of the righteous will be granted. # Ps 145:19; Mt 5:6
25When the tempest passes, the wicked is no more,
but the righteous stands firm forever. # Ps 15:5
26Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes,
so is the sluggard to those who send him.
27The fear of the Lord prolongs life, # Pr 3:2
but the years of the wicked will be shortened. # Job 15:32–33
28The hope of the righteous is joy,
but the expectation of the wicked will perish. # Job 8:13; Pr 11:7
29The way of the Lord is a stronghold to the upright,
but destruction to those who do evil. # Pr 21:15
30The righteous will never be removed, # Ps 125:1
but the wicked will not live in the land. # Ps 37:22
31The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, # Ps 37:30; Pr 10:13
but the perverse tongue will be silenced.
32The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, # Ecc 12:10
but the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.
