Tribes and Leaders by Armies
1And the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying: 2Every man of the Israelites will camp by his own standard, with the ensign of his father’s house. Facing the tent of meeting they will camp.
3On the east side toward the rising of the sun the standard of the camp of Judah will camp throughout their armies, and Nahshon the son of Amminadab # Ru 4:20; 1Ch 2:10 will be captain of the sons of Judah. 4His host, and those who were numbered of them, were seventy-four thousand six hundred.
5Those who camp next to him will be the tribe of Issachar, and Nethanel the son of Zuar # Nu 1:8 will be captain of the sons of Issachar. 6His host, and those who were numbered of them, were fifty-four thousand four hundred.
7Then comes the tribe of Zebulun, and Eliab the son of Helon # Nu 1:9 will be captain of the sons of Zebulun. 8His host, and those who were numbered of them, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.
9All who were numbered throughout the armies in the camp of Judah were one hundred and eighty-six thousand four hundred. They will march out first. # Nu 10:14
10On the south side will be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their armies, and the captain of the sons of Reuben will be Elizur the son of Shedeur. # Nu 1:5 11His host, and those who were numbered of them, were forty-six thousand five hundred.
12Those who camp by him will be the tribe of Simeon, and the captain of the sons of Simeon will be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. # Nu 1:6 13His host, and those who were numbered of them, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.
14Then comes the tribe of Gad, and the captain of the sons of Gad will be Eliasaph the son of Reuel. # Nu 1:14 15His host, and those who were numbered of them, were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.
16All who were numbered in the camp of Reuben were one hundred and fifty-one thousand four hundred and fifty, throughout their armies. And they will set out in the second rank. # Nu 10:18
17Then the tent of meeting will set out with the camp of the Levites in the middle of the camp. # Nu 10:17, 21 As they camp, so they will set out, every man in his place by their standards.
18On the west side will be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their armies, and the captain of the sons of Ephraim will be Elishama the son of Ammihud. # Nu 1:10 19His host, and those who were numbered of them, were forty thousand five hundred.
20By him will be the tribe of Manasseh, and the captain of the sons of Manasseh will be Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. # Nu 1:10 21His host, and those who were numbered of them, were thirty-two thousand two hundred.
22Then comes the tribe of Benjamin, and the captain of the sons of Benjamin will be Abidan the son of Gideoni. # Nu 1:11 23His host, and those who were numbered of them, were thirty-five thousand four hundred.
24All who were numbered of the camp of Ephraim were one hundred and eight thousand one hundred, throughout their armies. And they will go out in the third rank. # Nu 10:22
25The standard of the camp of Dan will be on the north side by their armies, and the captain of the sons of Dan will be Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai. # Nu 1:12 26His host, and those who were numbered of them, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.
27Those who camp by him will be the tribe of Asher, and the captain of the sons of Asher will be Pagiel the son of Okran. # Nu 1:13 28His host, and those who were numbered of them, were forty-one thousand five hundred.
29Then the tribe of Naphtali, and the captain of the sons of Naphtali will be Ahira the son of Enan. # Nu 1:15 30His host, and those who were numbered of them, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.
31All they who were numbered in the camp of Dan were one hundred and fifty-seven thousand six hundred. They will set out in the back with their standards. # Nu 10:25
32These are those who were numbered of the Israelites by the house of their fathers. All those who were numbered of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty. # Ex 38:26; Nu 1:46 33But the Levites were not numbered among the Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.
34The Israelites did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses. So they camped by their standards, # Nu 24:2, 5–6 and so they set out, each one after his family, according to their fathers’ houses.

The Arrangement of the Tribes in Camp
1The Lord gave Moses and Aaron the following instructions. 2When the Israelites set up camp, each man will camp under the banner of his division and the flag of his own clan. The camp is to be set up all around the Tent.
3-9On the east side, those under the banner of the division of Judah shall camp in their groups, under their leaders, as follows:

17Then, between the first two divisions and the last two the Levites are to march carrying the Tent. Each division shall march in the same order as they camp, each in position under its banner.
18-24On the west, those under the banner of the division of Ephraim shall camp in their groups, under their leaders, as follows:

32The total number of the people of Israel enrolled in the divisions, group by group, was 603,550. 33As the Lord had commanded Moses, the Levites were not registered with the rest of the Israelites.
34So the people of Israel did everything the Lord had commanded Moses. They camped, each under his own banner, and they marched, each with his own clan.
