Matthew 28

28
The Resurrection
Mk 16:1–8; Lk 24:1–12; Jn 20:1–10
1At the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. # Mt 27:56, 61
2And behold, there was a great earthquake. For the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat on it. 3His countenance was like lightning, and his garments white as snow. # Mk 9:3; Ac 1:10 4The soldiers shook for fear of him and became like dead men. # Rev 1:17
5The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid. For I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6He is not here. For He has risen, as He said. # Mt 16:21; 27:63 Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7Then go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead, and behold, He is going before you to Galilee. # Mt 26:32; 28:10 There you will see Him. Listen, I have told you.”
8So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word. 9As they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Greetings!” They came and took hold of His feet and worshipped Him. # Mt 14:33; 28:17 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell My brothers # Jn 20:17; Ro 8:29; Heb 2:11–12 to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”
The Report of the Guard
11While they were going, behold, some of the soldiers # Mt 27:65–66 went into the city and described to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12When the chief priests were assembled with the elders and had taken counsel, they gave much money to the soldiers, 13saying, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were sleeping.’ 14If this comes to the governor’s ears, # Mt 27:2 we will satisfy him and keep you secure.” 15So they took the money and did as they were instructed. And this saying has been commonly reported among the Jews to this day. # Mt 27:8
The Commissioning of the Disciples
Mk 16:14–18; Lk 24:36–49; Jn 20:19–23; Ac 1:6–8
16Then the eleven disciples went away to Galilee, # Mt 26:32; 28:7 to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17When they saw Him, they worshipped Him. # Mt 28:9 But some doubted. 18Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. # Mt 11:27; Ro 14:9 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them # Mk 16:15–16 in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, # Ac 1:8 20teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you. # Ac 2:42 And behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” # Mt 18:20 Amen.
