Isaiah 45

Cyrus, God’s Anointed
1Thus says the Lord to Cyrus, His anointed,
whose right hand I have held # Ps 73:23; Isa 41:13 —
to subdue nations before him
and to loosen the loins of kings,
to open doors before him
so that the gates will not be shut:
2I will go before you
and make the crooked places straight; # Isa 40:4
I will break in pieces the gates of bronze
and shatter the bars of iron. # Ps 107:16
3And I will give you the treasures of darkness
and hidden riches of secret places
so that you may know that I, the Lord,
who calls you by your name, am the God of Israel. # Isa 43:1
4For Jacob My servant’s sake
and Israel My chosen one,
I have even called you by your name;
I have named you,
though you have not known Me. # Isa 41:8–9; Ac 17:23
5I am the Lord and there is no other;
there is no God besides Me. # Isa 44:8
I strengthen you, # Ps 18:39
though you have not known Me,
6so that they may know from the rising of the sun
and from the west # Mal 1:11
that there is no one besides Me.
I am the Lord, and there is no other; # Isa 37:20
7I form the light and create darkness;
I make peace and create calamity;
I, the Lord, do all these things. # 1Sa 2:6; Am 3:6
8Drip down, O heavens, from above, # Ps 72:6
and let the clouds pour down righteousness;
let the earth open up,
and let them bring forth salvation,
and let righteousness spring up together. # Hos 10:12
I, the Lord, have created it.
9Woe to him who strives with his maker,
the potsherd with the potsherds of the earth!
Shall the clay say to the potter, # Isa 64:8
“What are you making?”
Or the thing you are making say,
“He has no hands”? # Isa 29:16
10Woe to him who says to his father,
“What are you begetting?”
Or to the woman,
“To what are you giving birth?”
11Thus says the Lord,
the Holy One of Israel and his maker:
Ask Me of things to come
concerning My sons,
and you shall commit to Me the work of My hands. # Isa 29:23; 43:7
12I have made the earth
and created man on it.
I, even My hands, have stretched out the heavens, # Isa 42:5
and I have ordained all their host. # Ge 2:1; Ne 9:6
13I have raised him up in righteousness, # Isa 41:2
and I will direct all his ways;
he shall build My city,
and he shall let My captives go, # 2Ch 36:22–23
neither for price nor reward,
says the Lord of Hosts.
The Only Savior
14Thus says the Lord:
The products of Egypt and merchandise of Cush
and of the Sabeans—men of stature—
shall come over to you,
and they shall be yours;
they shall come after you;
in chains they shall come over,
and they shall fall down before you.
They shall make supplication to you, saying,
“Surely God is with you, and there is no other; # Isa 49:23; Jer 16:19; Zec 8:20–23
there is no other God.”
15Truly You are a God who hides Yourself, # Ps 44:24; Isa 57:17
O God of Israel, the Savior.
16They shall be ashamed and also humiliated, all of them; # Isa 42:17; 44:9
the craftsmen of idols shall go away in confusion together,
17but Israel shall be saved by the Lord
with an everlasting salvation; # Isa 26:4
you shall not be ashamed nor humiliated # Isa 54:4
to all eternity.
18For thus says the Lord,
who created the heavens,
who is God,
who formed the earth and made it, # Ge 1:2; Isa 42:5
who has established it,
who did not create it in vain,
who formed it to be inhabited:
I am the Lord,
and there is no other.
19I have not spoken in secret # Isa 48:16
in a dark place of the earth;
I did not say to the descendants of Jacob,
“Seek Me in a waste place”;
I, the Lord, speak righteousness;
I declare things that are right.
20Assemble yourselves and come; # Isa 43:9
draw near together, you fugitives of the nations.
They have no knowledge who set up the wood of their carved image,
and pray to a god that cannot save.
21Declare and set forth your case;
let them take counsel together.
Who has declared this from ancient times?
Who has told it from that time?
Have not I, the Lord?
And there is no God besides Me,
a righteous God and Savior;
there is no other besides Me. # Isa 43:11
22Turn to Me and be saved, # Nu 21:8–9; 2Ch 20:12
all the ends of the earth.
For I am God, and there is no other.
23I have sworn by Myself, # Ps 63:11
the word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness
and shall not return,
that to Me every knee shall bow,
every tongue shall take an oath. # Php 2:10–11
24Surely, one shall say, “Only in the Lord
are righteousness and strength.”
Men shall come to him,
and all who are incensed at Him shall be ashamed. # Isa 41:11
25In the Lord shall all the seed of Israel
be justified and shall glory. # Isa 41:16

Isaiah 45
45
1Thus saith Jehovah to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him — and I will loose the loins of kings; to open before him the two-leaved doors, and the gates shall not be shut: 2I will go before thee, and make the elevated places plain; I will break in pieces the brazen doors, and cut asunder the bars of iron; 3and I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places; that thou mayest know that I, Jehovah, who call thee by name, am the God#GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel. 4For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have called thee by thy name; I surnamed thee, though thou didst not know me;
5I am Jehovah, and there is none else; there is no God#GodHebrew: Elohim beside me: I girded thee, and thou hast not known me; 6— that they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the going down, that there is none beside me. I am Jehovah, and there is none else; 7forming the light and creating darkness, making peace and creating evil: I, Jehovah, do all these things. 8Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness; let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and with it let righteousness spring up. I, Jehovah, have created it. 9Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let a potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that formeth it, What makest thou? Or thy work, He hath no hands? 10Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? Or to his mother, What hast thou brought forth?
11Thus saith Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: Ask me of the things to come; concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands, command ye me. 12It is I that have made the earth, and created man upon it; it is I, my hands, that have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded. 13It is I that have raised him up in righteousness, and I will make all his ways straight: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith Jehovah of hosts. 14Thus saith Jehovah: The wealth of Egypt, and the merchandise of Ethiopia and the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall walk after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall bow down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely ·God#GodHebrew: El is in thee; and there is none else, no other God#GodHebrew: Elohim ... 15Verily thou art a ·God#GodHebrew: El that hidest thyself, O God#GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel, the Saviour. ... 16They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them; they shall go away in confusion together, the makers of idols. 17Israel shall be saved by Jehovah with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded, unto the ages of ages. 18For thus saith Jehovah who created the heavens, God#GodHebrew: Elohim himself who formed the earth and made it, he who established it, — not as waste did he create it: he formed it to be inhabited: — I am Jehovah, and there is none else. 19I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth; I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek me in vain: I am Jehovah, speaking righteousness, declaring things which are right.
20Gather yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations. They have no knowledge that carry the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god#godHebrew: el that cannot save. 21Declare and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath caused this to be heard from ancient time? who hath declared it long ago? Is it not I, Jehovah? And there is no God#GodHebrew: Elohim else beside me; a just ·God#GodHebrew: El and a Saviour, there is none besides me. 22Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am ·God#GodHebrew: El and there is none else. 23I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness and shall not return, that unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. 24Only in Jehovah, shall one say, have I righteousness and strength. To him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed. 25In Jehovah shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.
