1#2Co 1:1; Eph 3:6Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
2#1Ti 1:2; Ro 1:7To Timothy, my beloved son:
Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
Loyalty to the Gospel
3#Ro 1:8–9; Ac 23:1I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience as my forefathers did, as I continually remember you in my prayers night and day, 4#2Ti 4:9; 4:21greatly desiring to see you, remembering your tears, that I may be filled with joy, 5#Ac 16:1; 1Ti 1:5remembering the genuine faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and that I am persuaded lives in you also.
6#1Ti 4:14; 1Th 5:19Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God, which is in you by the laying on of my hands. 7#Ro 8:15; Ac 1:8For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and self-control. 8#Mk 8:38; Eph 3:1So do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me, His prisoner. But share in the sufferings of the gospel by the power of God, 9#Ro 16:25; Titus 1:2who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not by our works, but by His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10#Ro 2:7; 16:26but is now revealed by the appearing of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11#1Ti 2:7for which I was appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 12#2Ti 1:8; 1Ti 6:20; 1Pe 4:19For these things I suffer, but I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him until that Day.
13#1Ti 1:14; Titus 1:9Follow the pattern of sound teaching which you have heard from me in the faith and love that is in Christ Jesus. 14#Ro 8:9; 1Ti 6:20Guard the treasure that was committed to you through the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
15#2Ti 4:16; Ac 19:10You know that all those who are in Asia have turned away from me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.
16#2Ti 4:19; Ac 28:20May the Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains. 17But when he arrived in Rome, he searched me out very diligently and found me. 18#2Ti 1:12; Heb 6:10May the Lord grant that he may find mercy from the Lord on that Day. You know very well how many ways he ministered to me at Ephesus.

2 Timothy 1
1
Greetings from Paul
1This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus. I have been sent out to tell others about the life he has promised through faith in Christ Jesus.
2I am writing to Timothy, my dear son.
May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy, and peace.
Encouragement to Be Faithful
3Timothy, I thank God for you—the God I serve with a clear conscience, just as my ancestors did. Night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4I long to see you again, for I remember your tears as we parted. And I will be filled with joy when we are together again.
5I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. 6This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. 7For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
8So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News. 9For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. 10And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News. 11And God chose me to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of this Good News.
12That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him#1:12 Or what has been entrusted to me. until the day of his return.
13Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me—a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus. 14Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you.
15As you know, everyone from the province of Asia has deserted me—even Phygelus and Hermogenes.
16May the Lord show special kindness to Onesiphorus and all his family because he often visited and encouraged me. He was never ashamed of me because I was in chains. 17When he came to Rome, he searched everywhere until he found me. 18May the Lord show him special kindness on the day of Christ’s return. And you know very well how helpful he was in Ephesus.
