1 Samuel 27
27
David With the Philistines
1Then David said in his heart, “Now I will perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of continually seeking me within all the territory of Israel. So will I escape out of his hand.”
2#1Sa 21:10; 25:13David arose and passed over with the six hundred men that were with him to Achish, the son of Maok, king of Gath. 3#1Sa 25:42–43And David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, each man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s widow. 4It was reported to Saul that David had fled to Gath, so he no longer sought him.
5David said to Achish, “If I have now found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the countryside, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?”
6#Ne 11:28; Jos 15:31Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day. Therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day. 7#1Sa 29:3The number of days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months.
8#Jos 13:2; 1Sa 15:7–8David and his men went up and invaded the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites. For they were inhabitants of the land from of old, as you come to Shur, even to the land of Egypt. 9#1Sa 15:3So David would strike the land and would not leave either man or woman alive. And he would take the sheep, the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the garments. And then he came back to Achish.
10#Jdg 1:16; 1Ch 2:9Then Achish would say, “Where have you made a raid today?” And David would say, “Against the Negev of Judah,” or “Against the Negev of the Jerahmeelites,” or “Against the Negev of the Kenites.” 11Now David would leave neither a man nor a woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, saying, “Lest they should tell on us, saying, ‘Thus David has done.’ ” This was his practice all the days which he lived in the country of the Philistines. 12And Achish believed David, saying, “He has surely become a stench to his people Israel. Therefore he will be my servant forever.”

1 Kings 27
27
1And David said in his heart: I shall one day or other fall into the hands of Saul. Is it not better for me to flee, and to be saved in the land of the Philistines, that Saul may despair of me, and cease to seek me in all the coasts of Israel? I will flee then out of his hands.
2And David arose and went away, both he and the six hundred men that were with him, to Achis the son of Maoch, king of Geth.
3And David dwelt with Achis at Geth, he and his men: every man with his household, and David with his two wives, Achinoam the Jezrahelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal of Carmel.
4And it was told Saul that David was fled to Geth: and he sought no more after him.
5And David said to Achis: If I have found favour in thy sight, let a place be given me in one of the cities of this country, that I may dwell there. For why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?
6Then Achis gave him Siceleg that day: for which reason Siceleg belongeth to the kings of Juda unto this day.
7And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was four months.
8And David and his men went up, and pillaged Gessuri, and Gerzi, and the Amalecites: for these were of old the inhabitants of the countries, as men go to Sur, even to the land of Egypt.
9And David wasted all the land, and left neither man nor woman alive: and took away the sheep and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned and came to Achis.
10And Achis said to him: Whom hast thou gone against to day? David answered: Against the south of Juda, and against the south of Jerameel, and against the south of Ceni.
11And David saved neither man nor woman, neither brought he any of them to Geth, saying: Lest they should speak against us. So did David, and such was his proceeding all the days that he dwelt in the country of the Philistines.
12And Achis believed David, saying: He hath done much harm to his people Israel; therefore he shall be my servant for ever.
