1 Corinthians 6

Going to Law Before Unbelievers
1Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to the law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? 2#Mt 19:28; Da 7:22Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more the things that pertain to this life? 4#1Co 5:12If then you have judgments dealing with matters of this life, do you appoint as judges those who are least esteemed in the church? 5#1Co 4:14; 15:34I speak to your shame. Is it true that there is not even one wise man among you who shall be able to judge between his brothers? 6But brother goes to the law against brother, and before unbelievers, at that.
7#Pr 20:22; 1Pe 3:9Now therefore it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded? 8#1Th 4:6But you yourselves do wrong and defraud, and do this to your brothers. 9#1Co 15:50; 1Ti 1:9–10Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, 10#1Co 5:11nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11#1Co 1:2; Ac 22:16; Ro 8:30Such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, and you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus by the Spirit of our God.
Glorify God in Your Body
12“All things are lawful to me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be brought under the power of anything. 13#Mt 15:17; 1Co 6:15“Food is for the belly, and the belly is for food,” but God will destroy both of them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body. 14#Ac 2:24; Eph 1:19–20God has raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His own power. 15#Ro 12:5; 1Co 12:27Do you not know that your bodies are the parts of Christ? Shall I then take the parts of Christ and make them the parts of a harlot? God forbid! 16#Ge 2:24; Eph 5:31What? Do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”#Ge 2:24. 17#Jn 17:21–23But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him.
18#Heb 13:4; 2Co 12:21Escape from sexual immorality. Every sin that a man commits is outside the body. But he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19#1Co 3:16; Jn 2:21What? Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God, and that you are not your own? 20#1Co 7:23; Ac 20:28; Ro 12:1You were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Lawsuits among Believers
1When any of you has a grievance against another, do you dare to take it to court before the unrighteous, instead of taking it before the saints? 2Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? 3Do you not know that we are to judge angels—to say nothing of ordinary matters? 4If you have ordinary cases, then, do you appoint as judges those who have no standing in the church? 5I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to decide between one believer#6.5 Gk brother and another, 6but a believer#6.6 Gk brother goes to court against a believer#6.6 Gk brother —and before unbelievers at that?
7In fact, to have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded? 8But you yourselves wrong and defraud—and believers#6.8 Gk brothers at that.
9Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, 10thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And this is what some of you used to be. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
Glorify God in Body and Spirit
12“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. 13“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food,”#6.13 The quotation may extend to the word other and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is meant not for fornication but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14And God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power. 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16Do you not know that whoever is united to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For it is said, “The two shall be one flesh.” 17But anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18Shun fornication! Every sin that a person commits is outside the body; but the fornicator sins against the body itself. 19Or do you not know that your body is a temple#6.19 Or sanctuary of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.
