Sons of Israel
Ge 35:23–26; Ru 4:18–22; Mt 1:3–6
1#Ge 29:32–35; 35:22–26These are the sons of Israel:
Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, 2Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
From Judah to David
3#Ge 38:2–10; 46:12The sons of Judah were
Er, Onan, and Shelah: These three were born to him by the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. Now Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the Lord, and He put him to death. 4#Mt 1:3; Ge 38:13–30; Ru 4:12Then Tamar his daughter-in-law bore Perez and Zerah for him. In all, Judah had five sons.
5#Ge 46:12; Nu 26:21The sons of Perez were
Hezron and Hamul.
6The sons of Zerah were
Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Kalkol, and Dara, five of them in all.
7#Jos 6:18The sons of Karmi were
Achar, the troubler of Israel, who acted unfaithfully in regard to the ban.
8The son of Ethan was
Azariah.
9#Ru 4:19; 1Ch 2:42Now the sons of Hezron, who were born to him, were
Jerahmeel, Ram, and Kelubai.
Sons of Ram
10#Mt 1:4; Nu 1:7Ram became the father of
Amminadab, and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, a leader of the sons of Judah. 11#Ru 4:21; Mt 1:4–5Nahshon became the father of Salma, and Salma became the father of Boaz. 12Boaz became the father of Obed, and Obed became the father of Jesse.
13#1Sa 17:13Now Jesse became the father of
his firstborn Eliab, and Abinadab the second, and Shimea the third, 14Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, 15Ozem the sixth, David the seventh; 16#1Sa 26:6their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. The sons of Zeruiah were Abishai, Joab, and Asahel, three in all. 17#2Sa 17:25Abigail bore Amasa: the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmaelite.
Sons of Caleb
18Caleb the son of Hezron had children with his wife Azubah and with Jerioth. These are her sons: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon. 19#1Ch 2:50Now Azubah died, and Caleb took Ephrath as a wife. She bore Hur for him. 20#Ex 31:2Hur became the father of Uri, and Uri became the father of Bezalel.
21#Nu 27:1Afterward Hezron had relations with the daughter of Makir, the father of Gilead, whom he took as a wife when he was sixty years old, and she bore Segub for him. 22Segub became the father of Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead. 23He took Geshur and Aram, the towns of Jair, from them, with Kenath and its villages, sixty towns. All these were descendants of Makir, the father of Gilead.
24#1Ch 4:5After the death of Hezron in Caleb Ephrathah, Hezron’s wife Abijah bore him Ashhur the father of Tekoa.
Sons of Jerahmeel
25Now the sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron were
Ram the firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah. 26Jerahmeel also had another wife. Her name was Atarah, and she was the mother of Onam.
27The sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel were
Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.
28The sons of Onam were
Shammai and Jada.
And the sons of Shammai were
Nadab and Abishur.
29The name of the wife of Abishur was Abihail. She bore him Ahban and Molid.
30The sons of Nadab were
Seled and Appaim, but Seled died without children.
31#1Ch 2:34–35The son of Appaim was
Ishi. The son of Ishi was Sheshan,
and the son of Sheshan was Ahlai.
32The sons of Jada the brother of Shammai were
Jether and Jonathan, but Jether died without children.
33The sons of Jonathan were
Peleth and Zaza.
These were the sons of Jerahmeel.
34Now Sheshan had no children except daughters,
but he did have a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Jarha. 35Sheshan gave one of his daughters to Jarha his servant as a wife, and she bore him Attai.
36#1Ch 11:41Attai became the father of Nathan,
and Nathan became the father of Zabad.
37Zabad became the father of Ephlal,
and Ephlal became the father of Obed.
38Obed became the father of Jehu,
and Jehu became the father of Azariah.
39Azariah became the father of Helez,
and Helez became the father of Eleasah.
40Eleasah became the father of Sismai,
and Sismai became the father of Shallum.
41Shallum became the father of Jekamiah,
and Jekamiah became the father of Elishama.
Caleb’s Clans
42Now the sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel were
Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph, and the sons of Mareshah the father of Hebron.
43The sons of Hebron were
Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema. 44Shema became the father of Raham, the father of Jorkeam, and Rekem became the father of Shammai. 45#Jos 15:58The son of Shammai was Maon, and Maon was the father of Beth Zur.
46Ephah, Caleb’s concubine, bore Haran, Moza, and Gazez, and Haran became the father of Gazez.
47The sons of Jahdai were
Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.
48Maakah, Caleb’s concubine, bore Sheber and Tirhanah. 49#Jos 15:31She also bore Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Makbenah, and the father of Gibea. The daughter of Caleb was Aksah.
50These were the sons of Caleb the son of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah:
Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim, 51#1Ch 4:4Salma the father of Bethlehem, and Hareph the father of Beth Gader.
52#1Ch 4:2Now sons were born to Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim:
Haroeh and half of the Manahathites. 53#2Sa 23:38The families of Kiriath Jearim were the Ithrites, the Puthites, the Shumathites, and the Mishraites. From these the Zorathites and the Eshtaolites went forth.
54#Ezr 2:22; Ne 7:26The sons of Salma were
Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth Beth Joab, and half of the Manahathites, the Zorites. 55#Jdg 1:16; 2Ki 10:15The families of the scribes who lived at Jabez were the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and the Sucathites. They are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rekab.

Israel’s Sons
1These # Gn 35:22-26; 46:8-25 were Israel’s sons:

Judah’s Descendants
3Judah’s # Gn 38:6-30 sons: Er, Onan, and Shelah. # Gn 38:2-5; 46:12; Nm 26:19-22 These three were born to him by Bath-shua the Canaanite woman. Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the Lord’s sight, so He put him to death. 4Judah’s daughter-in-law Tamar bore Perez and Zerah to him. Judah had five sons in all.
5Perez’s sons: Hezron and Hamul.
6Zerah’s sons: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara # Some Hb mss, LXX, Syr, Tg, Vg read Darda ; 1Kg 4:31 # 1Kg 4:31 — five in all.
7Carmi’s son: Achar, # = Trouble; Achan in Jos 7:1,16-26 # Jos 7:1,16-26 who brought trouble on Israel when he was unfaithful by taking the things set apart for destruction.
8Ethan’s son: Azariah.
9Hezron’s sons, who were born to him: Jerahmeel, Ram, and Chelubai. # = Caleb
10Ram fathered Amminadab, and Amminadab fathered Nahshon, a leader of Judah’s descendants.
11Nahshon fathered Salma, and Salma fathered Boaz.
12Boaz fathered Obed, and Obed fathered Jesse.
13Jesse fathered Eliab, his firstborn; Abinadab was born second, Shimea third, 14Nethanel fourth, Raddai fifth, 15Ozem sixth, and David seventh. 16Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah’s three sons: Abishai, Joab, and Asahel. 17Amasa’s mother was Abigail, and his father was Jether the Ishmaelite.
18Caleb son of Hezron had children by his wife Azubah and by Jerioth. These were Azubah’s sons: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon. 19When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, and she bore Hur to him. 20Hur fathered Uri, and Uri fathered Bezalel. 21After this, Hezron slept with the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead. # Nm 26:29 Hezron had married her when he was 60 years old, and she bore Segub to him. 22Segub fathered Jair, who possessed 23 towns in the land of Gilead. 23But Geshur and Aram captured # Lit took from them Jair’s Villages # Or captured Havvoth-jair along with Kenath and its villages — 60 towns. All these were the sons of Machir father of Gilead. 24After Hezron’s death in Caleb-ephrathah, his wife Abijah bore Ashhur to him. He was the father of Tekoa.
25The sons of Jerahmeel, Hezron’s firstborn: Ram, his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah. 26Jerahmeel had another wife named Atarah, who was the mother of Onam.
27The sons of Ram, Jerahmeel’s firstborn: Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.
28Onam’s sons: Shammai and Jada.
Shammai’s sons: Nadab and Abishur. 29Abishur’s wife was named Abihail, who bore Ahban and Molid to him.
30Nadab’s sons: Seled and Appaim. Seled died without children.
31Appaim’s son: Ishi.
Ishi’s son: Sheshan.
Sheshan’s descendant: Ahlai.

36Attai fathered Nathan, and Nathan fathered Zabad.
37Zabad fathered Ephlal, and Ephlal fathered Obed.
38Obed fathered Jehu, and Jehu fathered Azariah.
39Azariah fathered Helez, and Helez fathered Elasah.
40Elasah fathered Sismai, and Sismai fathered Shallum.
41Shallum fathered Jekamiah, and Jekamiah fathered Elishama.
42The sons of Caleb brother of Jerahmeel: Mesha, his firstborn, fathered Ziph, and Mareshah, his second son, # Lit and the sons of Mareshah fathered Hebron.
43Hebron’s sons: Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema.
44Shema fathered Raham, who fathered Jorkeam, and Rekem fathered Shammai.
45Shammai’s son was Maon, and Maon fathered Beth-zur.
46Caleb’s concubine Ephah was the mother of Haran, Moza, and Gazez. Haran fathered Gazez.
47Jahdai’s sons: Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.
48Caleb’s concubine Maacah was the mother of Sheber and Tirhanah. 49She was also the mother of Shaaph, Madmannah’s father, and of Sheva, the father of Machbenah and Gibea. Caleb’s daughter was Achsah.
50These were Caleb’s descendants.
The sons of Hur, Ephrathah’s firstborn:
Shobal fathered Kiriath-jearim;
51Salma fathered Bethlehem,
and Hareph fathered Beth-gader.
52These were the descendants of Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim: Haroeh, half of the Manahathites, # Lit Manuhoth 53and the families of Kiriath-jearim — the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites. The Zorathites and Eshtaolites descended from these.
54Salma’s sons: Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, and half of the Manahathites, the Zorites, 55and the families of scribes who lived in Jabez — the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of Rechab’s family.
