When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners. David also spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it: “Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight. Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of sin.” Now, is this blessing only for the Jews, or is it also for uncircumcised Gentiles? All of Christianity rests on this one single truth – Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. Because He lives, you can count yourself fully alive to God, no longer mastered by sin, but living through the power of grace.
Is salvation a gift received by faith alone? Or, is it received by faith plus works, or in tandem with an emotional experience, or in some other way? Free grace proclaims that salvation is not earned. It is the free gift of God, the uncompromised and unrestricted favor of God toward sinners. Scriptures teach us that eternal life comes through the simple act of believing in Jesus Christ, God’s Son.
