Sins Requiring a Guilt Offering
1 # 6:1 Verses 6:1-7 are numbered 5:20-26 in Hebrew text. Then the Lord said to Moses, 2“Suppose one of you sins against your associate and is unfaithful to the Lord. Suppose you cheat in a deal involving a security deposit, or you steal or commit fraud, 3or you find lost property and lie about it, or you lie while swearing to tell the truth, or you commit any other such sin. 4If you have sinned in any of these ways, you are guilty. You must give back whatever you stole, or the money you took by extortion, or the security deposit, or the lost property you found, 5or anything obtained by swearing falsely. You must make restitution by paying the full price plus an additional 20 percent to the person you have harmed. On the same day you must present a guilt offering. 6As a guilt offering to the Lord, you must bring to the priest your own ram with no defects, or you may buy one of equal value. 7Through this process, the priest will purify you before the Lord, making you right with him,#6:7 Or will make atonement for you before the Lord. and you will be forgiven for any of these sins you have committed.”
Further Instructions for the Burnt Offering
8 # 6:8 Verses 6:8-30 are numbered 6:1-23 in Hebrew text. Then the Lord said to Moses, 9“Give Aaron and his sons the following instructions regarding the burnt offering. The burnt offering must be left on top of the altar until the next morning, and the fire on the altar must be kept burning all night. 10In the morning, after the priest on duty has put on his official linen clothing and linen undergarments, he must clean out the ashes of the burnt offering and put them beside the altar. 11Then he must take off these garments, change back into his regular clothes, and carry the ashes outside the camp to a place that is ceremonially clean. 12Meanwhile, the fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must never go out. Each morning the priest will add fresh wood to the fire and arrange the burnt offering on it. He will then burn the fat of the peace offerings on it. 13Remember, the fire must be kept burning on the altar at all times. It must never go out.
Further Instructions for the Grain Offering
14“These are the instructions regarding the grain offering. Aaron’s sons must present this offering to the Lord in front of the altar. 15The priest on duty will take from the grain offering a handful of the choice flour moistened with olive oil, together with all the frankincense. He will burn this representative portion on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 16Aaron and his sons may eat the rest of the flour, but it must be baked without yeast and eaten in a sacred place within the courtyard of the Tabernacle.#6:16 Hebrew Tent of Meeting; also in 6:26, 30. 17Remember, it must never be prepared with yeast. I have given it to the priests as their share of the special gifts presented to me. Like the sin offering and the guilt offering, it is most holy. 18Any of Aaron’s male descendants may eat from the special gifts presented to the Lord. This is their permanent right from generation to generation. Anyone or anything that touches these offerings will become holy.”
Procedures for the Ordination Offering
19Then the Lord said to Moses, 20“On the day Aaron and his sons are anointed, they must present to the Lord the standard grain offering of two quarts#6:20 Hebrew 1/10 of an ephah [2.2 liters]. of choice flour, half to be offered in the morning and half to be offered in the evening. 21It must be carefully mixed with olive oil and cooked on a griddle. Then slice#6:21 The meaning of this Hebrew term is uncertain. this grain offering and present it as a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 22In each generation, the high priest#6:22 Hebrew the anointed priest. who succeeds Aaron must prepare this same offering. It belongs to the Lord and must be burned up completely. This is a permanent law. 23All such grain offerings of a priest must be burned up entirely. None of it may be eaten.”
Further Instructions for the Sin Offering
24Then the Lord said to Moses, 25“Give Aaron and his sons the following instructions regarding the sin offering. The animal given as an offering for sin is a most holy offering, and it must be slaughtered in the Lord’s presence at the place where the burnt offerings are slaughtered. 26The priest who offers the sacrifice as a sin offering must eat his portion in a sacred place within the courtyard of the Tabernacle. 27Anyone or anything that touches the sacrificial meat will become holy. If any of the sacrificial blood spatters on a person’s clothing, the soiled garment must be washed in a sacred place. 28If a clay pot is used to boil the sacrificial meat, it must then be broken. If a bronze pot is used, it must be scoured and thoroughly rinsed with water. 29Any male from a priest’s family may eat from this offering; it is most holy. 30But the offering for sin may not be eaten if its blood was brought into the Tabernacle as an offering for purification#6:30 Or an offering to make atonement. in the Holy Place. It must be completely burned with fire.

1And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2“If a person sins and #Num. 5:6commits a trespass against the Lord by #Lev. 19:11; Acts 5:4; Col. 3:9lying to his neighbor about #Ex. 22:7, 10what was delivered to him for safekeeping, or about a pledge, or about a robbery, or if he has #Prov. 24:28extorted from his neighbor, 3or if he #Ex. 23:4; Deut. 22:1–4has found what was lost and lies concerning it, and #Ex. 22:11; Lev. 19:12; Jer. 7:9; Zech. 5:4swears falsely—in any one of these things that a man may do in which he sins: 4then it shall be, because he has sinned and is guilty, that he shall restore #Lev. 24:18, 21what he has stolen, or the thing which he has extorted, or what was delivered to him for safekeeping, or the lost thing which he found, 5or all that about which he has sworn falsely. He shall #Lev. 5:16; Num. 5:7, 8; 2 Sam. 12:6restore its full value, add one-fifth more to it, and give it to whomever it belongs, on the day of his trespass offering. 6And he shall bring his trespass offering to the Lord, #Lev. 1:3; 5:15a ram without blemish from the flock, with your valuation, as a trespass offering, to the priest. 7#Lev. 4:26So the priest shall make atonement for him before the Lord, and he shall be forgiven for any one of these things that he may have done in which he trespasses.”
The Law of the Burnt Offering
8Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 9“Command Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the #Ex. 29:38–42; Num. 28:3–10law of the burnt offering: The burnt offering shall be on the hearth upon the altar all night until morning, and the fire of the altar shall be kept burning on it. 10#Ex. 28:39–43; Lev. 16:4; Ezek. 44:17, 18And the priest shall put on his linen garment, and his linen trousers he shall put on his body, and take up the ashes of the burnt offering which the fire has consumed on the altar, and he shall put them #Lev. 1:16beside the altar. 11Then #Ezek. 44:19he shall take off his garments, put on other garments, and carry the ashes outside the camp #Lev. 4:12to a clean place. 12And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the #Lev. 3:3, 5, 9, 14fat of the peace offerings. 13A fire shall always be burning on the #Lev. 1:7altar; it shall never go out.
The Law of the Grain Offering
14‘This is the law of the grain offering: The sons of Aaron shall offer it on the altar before the Lord. 15He shall take from it his handful of the fine flour of the grain offering, with its oil, and all the frankincense which is on the grain offering, and shall burn it on the altar for a sweet aroma, as a memorial to the Lord. 16And the remainder of it Aaron and his sons shall eat; with unleavened bread it shall be eaten in a holy place; in the court of the tabernacle of meeting they shall eat it. 17It shall not be baked with leaven. I have given it as their portion of My offerings made by fire; it is most holy, like the sin offering and the #Lev. 7:7trespass offering. 18#Lev. 6:29; 7:6; Num. 18:10; 1 Cor. 9:13All the males among the children of Aaron may eat it. #Lev. 3:17It shall be a statute forever in your generations concerning the offerings made by fire to the Lord. #Ex. 29:37; Lev. 22:3–7; Num. 4:15; Hag. 2:11–13Everyone who touches them must be holy.’ ”
19And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 20#Ex. 29:2“This is the offering of Aaron and his sons, which they shall offer to the Lord, beginning on the day when he is anointed: one-tenth of an #Ex. 16:36ephah of fine flour as a daily grain offering, half of it in the morning and half of it at night. 21It shall be made in a #Lev. 2:5; 7:9pan with oil. When it is mixed, you shall bring it in. The baked pieces of the grain offering you shall offer for a sweet aroma to the Lord. 22The priest from among his sons, #Lev. 4:3who is anointed in his place, shall offer it. It is a statute forever to the Lord. #Ex. 29:25It shall be wholly burned. 23For every grain offering for the priest shall be wholly burned. It shall not be eaten.”
The Law of the Sin Offering
24Also the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 25“Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, ‘This is the law of the sin offering: #Lev. 1:1, 3, 5, 11In the place where the burnt offering is killed, the sin offering shall be killed before the Lord. It is most holy. 26#(Lev. 10:17, 18); Num. 18:9, 10; (Ezek. 44:28, 29)The priest who offers it for sin shall eat it. In a holy place it shall be eaten, in the court of the tabernacle of meeting. 27#Ex. 29:37; Num. 4:15; Hag. 2:11–13Everyone who touches its flesh must be holy. And when its blood is sprinkled on any garment, you shall wash that on which it was sprinkled, in a holy place. 28But the earthen vessel in which it is boiled #Lev. 11:33; 15:12shall be broken. And if it is boiled in a bronze pot, it shall be both scoured and rinsed in water. 29All the males among the priests may eat it. It is most holy. 30#Lev. 4:7, 11, 12, 18, 21; 10:18; 16:27; (Heb. 13:11, 12)But no sin offering from which any of the blood is brought into the tabernacle of meeting, to make atonement in the holy #Ex. 26:33place, shall be #Lev. 6:16, 23, 26eaten. It shall be #Lev. 16:27burned in the fire.
