Genesis 22

Abraham’s Faith Confirmed

1Now it came to pass after these things that #Deut. 8:2, 16; 1 Cor. 10:13; Heb. 11:17; (James 1:12–14; 1 Pet. 1:7)God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”

And he said, “Here I am.”

2Then He said, “Take now your son, #Gen. 22:12, 16; John 3:16; Heb. 11:17; 1 John 4:9your only son Isaac, whom you #John 5:20love, and go #2 Chr. 3:1to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a #Gen. 8:20; 31:54burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

3So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. 5And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will #(Heb. 11:19)come back to you.”

6So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and #John 19:17laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. 7But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!”

And he said, “Here I am, my son.”

Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”

8And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the #John 1:29, 36lamb for a #Ex. 12:3–6burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.

9Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and #(Heb. 11:17–19; James 2:21)laid him on the altar, upon the wood. 10And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

11But the #Gen. 16:7–11; 21:17, 18; 31:11Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”

So he said, “Here I am.”

12And He said, #1 Sam. 15:22“Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for #Gen. 26:5; James 2:21, 22now I know that you fear God, since you have not #Gen. 22:2, 16; John 3:16withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”

13Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

15Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, 16and said: #Ps. 105:9; Luke 1:73; (Heb. 6:13, 14)“By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son—17blessing I will #Gen. 17:16; 26:3, 24bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants #Gen. 15:5; 26:4; Deut. 1:10; Jer. 33:22; Heb. 11:12as the stars of the heaven #Gen. 13:16; 32:12; 1 Kin. 4:20and as the sand which is on the seashore; and #Gen. 24:60your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. 18#Gen. 12:3; 18:18; 26:4; Matt. 1:1; Luke 3:34; (Acts 3:25, 26); Gal. 3:8, 9, 16, 18In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, #Gen. 18:19; 22:3, 10; 26:5because you have obeyed My voice.” 19So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose and went together to #Gen. 21:31Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.

The Family of Nahor

20Now it came to pass after these things that it was told Abraham, saying, “Indeed #Gen. 11:29; 24:15Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor: 21#Job 1:1Huz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father #Job 32:2of Aram, 22Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel.” 23And #Gen. 24:15Bethuel begot Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother. 24His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Thahash, and Maachah.

Abrahams Gehorsamsprüfung: Die Opferung Isaaks

1Und es geschah nach diesen Begebenheiten, da prüfte#5Mo 8,2-3; 2Chr 32,31; Jak 1,12; 1Pt 1,6-7 Gott den Abraham und sprach zu ihm: Abraham! Und er antwortete: Hier#2Mo 3,4; 1Sam 3,4.8.10 bin ich. 2Und er sprach: Nimm doch deinen Sohn, deinen einzigen, den du lieb hast, Isaak#1Mo 17,19, und geh hin in das Land Morija#2Chr 3,1 und bringe ihn dort zum Brandopfer#3Mo 1,3 vgl. 2Kö 3,27 dar auf einem der Berge, den ich dir nennen werde!

3 # Mt 10,37; Hebr 11,17 Da stand Abraham am Morgen früh#1Sam 15,12 auf und sattelte seinen Esel; und er nahm zwei Knechte mit sich und seinen Sohn Isaak; und er spaltete Holz zum Brandopfer, machte sich auf und ging hin an den Ort, den ihm Gott genannt hatte.

4Am dritten#2Mo 5,3; Esr 5,1 vgl. 1Kor 15,4 Tag erhob Abraham seine Augen und sah den Ort von ferne#1Sam 26,13. 5Da sprach Abraham zu seinen Knechten: Bleibt ihr hier mit dem Esel, ich aber und der Knabe wollen dorthin gehen und anbeten, und dann wollen wir wieder#Hebr 11,19 zu euch kommen. 6#vgl. Joh 19,17Und Abraham nahm das Holz zum Brandopfer und legte es auf seinen Sohn Isaak. Er aber nahm das Feuer und das Messer in seine Hand, und sie gingen beide miteinander. 7Da sprach Isaak zu seinem Vater Abraham: Mein Vater! Und er antwortete: Hier bin ich, mein Sohn! Und er sprach: Siehe, hier ist Feuer und Holz; wo ist aber das Lamm#2Mo 12,1-3; 29,38-42 vgl. Offb 5,6.9; 13,8 zum Brandopfer? 8#Jes 50,10Und Abraham antwortete: Mein Sohn, Gott wird für ein Lamm zum Brandopfer sorgen! Und sie gingen beide miteinander.

9 # Ps 118,27; Jes 53,7; Joh 1,29; 10,15.17; Jak 2,21 Und als sie an den Ort kamen, den Gott ihm genannt hatte, baute Abraham dort einen Altar und schichtete das Holz darauf; und er band seinen Sohn Isaak und legte ihn auf den Altar, oben auf das Holz. 10#vgl. 1Mo 18,19Und Abraham streckte seine Hand aus und fasste das Messer, um seinen Sohn zu schlachten. 11#1Mo 46,2Da rief ihm der Engel des Herrn vom Himmel her zu und sprach: Abraham! 12 # Röm 5,8-10 Er sprach: Lege deine Hand nicht an den Knaben und tue ihm gar nichts; denn nun weiß ich, dass du Gott fürchtest#1Sam 15,22; Hebr 11,19, weil du deinen einzigen Sohn nicht verschont#Ps 25,12-13 hast um meinetwillen!

13 # 1Mo 22,14; 1Kor 10,13; 2Kor 1,9-10 Da erhob Abraham seine Augen und schaute, und siehe, da war hinter ihm ein Widder, der sich mit seinen Hörnern im Gestrüpp verfangen hatte. Und Abraham ging hin und nahm den Widder und brachte ihn als Brandopfer dar anstelle seines Sohnes. 14#1Sam 7,12; Ps 22,5-6; Dan 3,17.28; 6,23Und Abraham nannte den Ort: »Der Herr wird dafür sorgen«, sodass man noch heute sagt: Auf dem Berg wird der Herr dafür sorgen!

15Und der Engel des Herrn rief Abraham zum zweiten Mal vom Himmel#1Mo 21,17 her zu, 16und er sprach: Ich habe bei mir selbst geschworen#Jes 45,23; Lk 1,73; Hebr 6,13, spricht der Herr: Weil du dies getan und deinen Sohn, deinen einzigen, nicht verschont hast, 17darum will ich dich reichlich segnen#1Mo 12,2 und deinen Samen mächtig mehren#s. 1Mo 15,5; 1Kö 4,20, wie die Sterne am Himmel und wie den Sand am Ufer des Meeres; und dein Same soll das Tor#1Mo 24,60; Ps 127,5; Hebr 6,14 seiner Feinde in Besitz nehmen,#22,17 d.h. über seine Feinde herrschen; das Tor war der Ort, wo die Ältesten oder Regenten einer Stadt das Recht sprachen. 18#1Mo 26,4-5; Jer 7,23und in deinem Samen sollen alle Völker der Erde gesegnet#s. 1Mo 12,3; Gal 3,8-16; Apg 3,25 werden, weil du meiner Stimme gehorsam warst!

19Und Abraham kehrte wieder zurück zu seinen Knechten; und sie machten sich auf und zogen miteinander nach Beerscheba#1Mo 26,23; 28,10; und Abraham wohnte in Beerscheba.

Die Nachkommen Nahors

20Und es geschah nach diesen Begebenheiten, da wurde Abraham berichtet: Siehe, auch Milka hat deinem Bruder Nahor#1Mo 11,27.29 Söhne geboren: 21Uz#1Mo 10,23; Hi 1,1, den Erstgeborenen, und Bus#Hi 32,2, seinen Bruder, und Kemuel, den Vater des Aram, 22und Kesed und Haso und Pildasch und Jidlaph und Bethuel#1Mo 24,15.47; 25,20. 23Bethuel aber hatte die Rebekka#1Mo 24,15.24 gezeugt. Milka#1Mo 11,29 gebar diese acht dem Nahor, dem Bruder Abrahams. 24Und seine Nebenfrau#1Mo 25,6; 1Kö 11,3; 1Chr 1,32; Hl 6,8 mit Namen Rehuma gebar auch, nämlich Tebach, Gaham, Tahasch und Maacha.
