A Prayer of Faith in Time of Distress
To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. #Ps. 12:titleOn an eight-stringed harp. A Psalm of David.
1O Lord, #Ps. 38:1; 118:18; (Jer. 10:24)do not rebuke me in Your anger,
Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure.
2Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak;
O Lord, #Ps. 41:4; 147:3; (Hos. 6:1)heal me, for my bones are troubled.
3My soul also is greatly #Ps. 88:3; John 12:27troubled;
But You, O Lord—how long?
4Return, O Lord, deliver me!
Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake!
5#Ps. 30:9; 88:10–12; 115:17; (Eccl. 9:10); Is. 38:18For in death there is no remembrance of You;
In the grave who will give You thanks?
6I am weary with my groaning;
All night I make my bed swim;
I drench my couch with my tears.
7#Job 17:7; Ps. 31:9My eye wastes away because of grief;
It grows old because of all my enemies.
8#(Matt. 25:41)Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity;
For the Lord has #Ps. 3:4; 28:6heard the voice of my weeping.
9The Lord has heard my supplication;
The Lord will receive my prayer.
10Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled;
Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.

Psalms 6

(A psalm by David for the music leader. Use stringed instruments.#Psalm 6 instruments: The Hebrew text adds “according to the sheminith”, which may refer to a musical instrument with eight strings.)
A prayer in time of trouble
1Don't punish me, LORD,#Ps 38.1.
or even correct me
when you are angry!
2Have pity on me and heal
my feeble body.
My bones tremble with fear,
3and I am in deep distress.
How long will it be?
4Turn and come to my rescue.
Show your wonderful love
and save me, LORD.
5If I die, I cannot praise you
or even remember you.
6My groaning has worn me out.
At night my bed and pillow
are soaked with tears.
7Sorrow has made my eyes dim,
and my sight has failed
because of my enemies.
8You, LORD, heard my crying,#Mt 7.23; Lk 13.27.
and those hateful people
had better leave me alone.
9You have answered my prayer
and my plea for mercy.
10My enemies will be ashamed
and terrified,
as they quickly run away
in complete disgrace.
