Psalms 4

The Safety of the Faithful
To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.
1Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have relieved me in my distress;
Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.
2How long, O you sons of men,
Will you turn my glory to shame?
How long will you love worthlessness
And seek falsehood?
Selah
3But know that #(2 Tim. 2:19)the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly;
The Lord will hear when I call to Him.
4#(Ps. 119:11; Eph. 4:26)Be angry, and do not sin.
#Ps. 77:6Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.
Selah
5Offer #Deut. 33:19; Ps. 51:19the sacrifices of righteousness,
And #Ps. 37:3, 5; 62:8put your trust in the Lord.
6There are many who say,
“Who will show us any good?”
#Num. 6:26; Ps. 80:3, 7, 19Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.
7You have put #Ps. 97:11, 12; Is. 9:3; Acts 14:17gladness in my heart,
More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.
8#Job 11:19; Ps. 3:5I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
#(Lev. 25:18); Deut. 12:10For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Prayer for Sleep in Shalom
1For the music director, on stringed instruments, a psalm of David.
2Answer me when I call, God of my righteousness! You set me free when I am in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
3O sons of men, how long will you turn my glory into my shame? How long will you love worthlessness and pursue falsehood? Selah
4But know that Adonai has set apart the godly for His own. Adonai will hear when I call to Him.
5Tremble, but do not sin! Search your heart while on your bed, and be silent. Selah
6Offer righteous sacrifices and put your trust in Adonai.
7Many are asking, “Who will show us some good?” May the light of Your face shine upon us, Adonai!
8You have put joy in my heart— more joy than when their grain and new wine overflow.
9I will lie down and sleep in shalom. For You alone, Adonai, make me live securely.
