Psalms 33
33
The Sovereignty of the Lord in Creation and History
1Rejoice #Ps. 32:11; 97:12; Phil. 3:1; 4:4in the Lord, O you righteous!
For praise from the upright is beautiful.
2Praise the Lord with the harp;
Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings.
3Sing to Him a new song;
Play skillfully with a shout of joy.
4For the word of the Lord is right,
And all His work is done in truth.
5He loves righteousness and justice;
The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.
6#Gen. 1:6, 7; Ps. 148:5; (Heb. 11:3; 2 Pet. 3:5)By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
And all the #Gen. 2:1host of them #(Job 26:13)by the breath of His mouth.
7#Gen. 1:9; Job 26:10; 38:8He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap;
He lays up the deep in storehouses.
8Let all the earth fear the Lord;
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
9For #Gen. 1:3; Ps. 148:5He spoke, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast.
10#(Ps. 2:1–3); Is. 8:10; 19:3The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.
11#(Job 23:13; Prov. 19:21)The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
The plans of His heart to all generations.
12Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people He has #(Ex. 19:5; Deut. 7:6); Ps. 28:9chosen as His own inheritance.
13#Job 28:24; (Ps. 14:2)The Lord looks from heaven;
He sees all the sons of men.
14From the place of His dwelling He looks
On all the inhabitants of the earth;
15He fashions their hearts individually;
#(2 Chr. 16:9); Job 34:21; (Jer. 32:19)He considers all their works.
16#Ps. 44:6; 60:11; (Jer. 9:23, 24)No king is saved by the multitude of an army;
A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
17#(Ps. 20:7; 147:10; Prov. 21:31)A horse is a vain hope for safety;
Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.
18#(Job 36:7); Ps. 32:8; 34:15; (1 Pet. 3:12)Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope in His mercy,
19To deliver their soul from death,
And #Job 5:20; Ps. 37:19to keep them alive in famine.
20Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
21For our heart shall rejoice in Him,
Because we have trusted in His holy name.
22Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us,
Just as we hope in You.
