Psalms 104

Praise to the Sovereign Lord for His Creation and Providence
1Bless #Ps. 103:1the Lord, O my soul!
O Lord my God, You are very great:
You are clothed with honor and majesty,
2Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment,
Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain.
3#(Amos 9:6)He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters,
Who makes the clouds His chariot,
Who walks on the wings of the wind,
4Who makes His angels spirits,
His ministers a flame of fire.
5You who laid the foundations of the earth,
So that it should not be moved forever,
6You #Gen. 1:6covered it with the deep as with a garment;
The waters stood above the mountains.
7At Your rebuke they fled;
At the voice of Your thunder they hastened away.
8They went up over the mountains;
They went down into the valleys,
To the place which You founded for them.
9You have #Job 26:10; Ps. 33:7; (Jer. 5:22)set a boundary that they may not pass over,
#Gen. 9:11–15That they may not return to cover the earth.
10He sends the springs into the valleys;
They flow among the hills.
11They give drink to every beast of the field;
The wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12By them the birds of the heavens have their home;
They sing among the branches.
13#Ps. 147:8He waters the hills from His upper chambers;
The earth is satisfied with #Jer. 10:13the fruit of Your works.
14#Gen. 1:29He causes the grass to grow for the cattle,
And vegetation for the service of man,
That he may bring forth #Job 28:5food from the earth,
15And #Judg. 9:13; Ps. 23:5; Prov. 31:6; Eccl. 10:19wine that makes glad the heart of man,
Oil to make his face shine,
And bread which strengthens man’s heart.
16The trees of the Lord are full of sap,
The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,
17Where the birds make their nests;
The stork has her home in the fir trees.
18The high hills are for the wild goats;
The cliffs are a refuge for the #Lev. 11:5rock badgers.
19#Gen. 1:14He appointed the moon for seasons;
The #Job 38:12; Ps. 19:6sun knows its going down.
20#(Ps. 74:16; Is. 45:7)You make darkness, and it is night,
In which all the beasts of the forest creep about.
21#Job 38:39The young lions roar after their prey,
And seek their food from God.
22When the sun rises, they gather together
And lie down in their dens.
23Man goes out to #Gen. 3:19his work
And to his labor until the evening.
24#Ps. 40:5; Prov. 3:19; (Jer. 10:12); 51:15O Lord, how manifold are Your works!
In wisdom You have made them all.
The earth is full of Your #Ps. 65:9possessions—
25This great and wide sea,
In which are innumerable teeming things,
Living things both small and great.
26There the ships sail about;
There is that #Job 41:1; Is. 27:1Leviathan
Which You have made to play there.
27#Job 36:31; Ps. 136:25These all wait for You,
That You may give them their food in due season.
28What You give them they gather in;
You open Your hand, they are filled with good.
29You hide Your face, they are troubled;
#Job 34:15; (Eccl. 12:7)You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.
30#Is. 32:15You send forth Your Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the earth.
31May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
May the Lord #Gen. 1:31; Prov. 8:31rejoice in His works.
32He looks on the earth, and it #Hab. 3:10trembles;
#Ex. 19:18; Ps. 144:5He touches the hills, and they smoke.
33#Ps. 63:4I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
34May my #Ps. 19:14meditation be sweet to Him;
I will be glad in the Lord.
35May #Ps. 37:38sinners be consumed from the earth,
And the wicked be no more.
Bless the Lord, O my soul!
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 104
1Praise the Lord, my soul!
O Lord my God, you are very great.
You are clothed with splendor and majesty.
2You cover yourself with light as though it were a robe.
You stretch out the heavens as though they were curtains.
3You lay the beams of your home in the water.
You use the clouds for your chariot.
You move on the wings of the wind.
4You make your angels winds
and your servants flames of fire.
5You set the earth on its foundations
so that it can never be shaken.
6You covered the earth with an ocean as though it were a robe.
Water stood above the mountains
7and fled because of your threat.
Water ran away at the sound of your thunder.
8The mountains rose and the valleys sank
to the place you appointed for them.
9Water cannot cross the boundary you set
and cannot come back to cover the earth.
10You make water gush from springs into valleys.
It flows between the mountains.
11Every wild animal drinks ⌞from them⌟.
Wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12The birds live by the streams.
They sing among the branches.
13You water the mountains from your home above.
You fill the earth with the fruits of your labors.
14You make grass grow for cattle
and make vegetables for humans to use
in order to get food from the ground.
15You make wine to cheer human hearts,
olive oil to make faces shine,
and bread to strengthen human hearts.
16The Lord’s trees, the cedars in Lebanon which he planted,
drink their fill.
17Birds build their nests in them.
Storks make their homes in fir trees.
18The high mountains are for wild goats.
The rocks are a refuge for badgers.
19He created the moon, which marks the seasons,
and the sun, which knows when to set.
20He brings darkness, and it is nighttime,
when all the wild animals in the forest come out.
21The young lions roar for their prey
and seek their food from God.
22When the sun rises,
they gather and lie down in their dens.
23Then people go to do their work,
to do their tasks until evening.
24What a large number of things you have made, O Lord!
You made them all by wisdom.
The earth is filled with your creatures.
25The sea is so big and wide with countless creatures,
living things both large and small.
26Ships sail on it,
and Leviathan, which you made, plays in it.
27All of them look to you to give them their food at the right time.
28You give it to them, and they gather it up.
You open your hand, and they are filled with blessings.
29You hide your face, and they are terrified.
You take away their breath, and they die and return to dust.
30You send out your Spirit, and they are created.
You renew the face of the earth.
31May the glory of the Lord endure forever.
May the Lord find joy in what he has made.
32He looks at the earth, and it trembles.
He touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33I will sing to the Lord throughout my life.
I will make music to praise my God as long as I live.
34May my thoughts be pleasing to him.
I will find joy in the Lord.
35May sinners vanish from the world.
May there no longer be any wicked people.
Praise the Lord, my soul!
Hallelujah!
