Care of the Tabernacle Lamps
1Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2#Ex. 27:20, 21“Command the children of Israel that they bring to you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually. 3Outside the veil of the Testimony, in the tabernacle of meeting, Aaron shall be in charge of it from evening until morning before the Lord continually; it shall be a statute forever in your generations. 4He shall be in charge of the lamps on #Ex. 25:31; 31:8; 37:17the pure gold lampstand before the Lord continually.
The Bread of the Tabernacle
5“And you shall take fine flour and bake twelve #Ex. 25:30; 39:36; 40:23cakes with it. Two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each cake. 6You shall set them in two rows, six in a row, #Ex. 25:23, 24; 1 Kin. 7:48; 2 Chr. 4:19; 13:11; Heb. 9:2on the pure gold table before the Lord. 7And you shall put pure frankincense on each row, that it may be on the bread for a #Lev. 2:2, 9, 16memorial, an offering made by fire to the Lord. 8#Num. 4:7; 1 Chr. 9:32; 2 Chr. 2:4; Matt. 12:4, 5Every Sabbath he shall set it in order before the Lord continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant. 9And #1 Sam. 21:6; Matt. 12:4; Mark 2:26; Luke 6:4it shall be for Aaron and his sons, #Ex. 29:33; Lev. 8:31and they shall eat it in a holy place; for it is most holy to him from the offerings of the Lord made by fire, by a perpetual statute.”
The Penalty for Blasphemy
10Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel; and this Israelite woman’s son and a man of Israel fought each other in the camp. 11And the Israelite woman’s son #Ex. 22:28blasphemed the name of the Lord and #Job 1:5, 11, 22; Is. 8:21cursed; and so they #Ex. 18:22, 26brought him to Moses. (His mother’s name was Shelomith the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.) 12Then they #Num. 15:34put him in custody, #Num. 27:5that the mind of the Lord might be shown to them.
13And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 14“Take outside the camp him who has cursed; then let all who heard him #Deut. 13:9; 17:7lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.
15“Then you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Whoever curses his God #Lev. 20:17; Num. 9:13shall bear his sin. 16And whoever #Ex. 20:7; 1 Kin. 21:10, 13; (Matt. 12:31; Mark 3:28, 29)blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall certainly stone him, the stranger as well as him who is born in the land. When he blasphemes the name of the Lord, he shall be put to death.
17#Gen. 9:6; Ex. 21:12; Num. 35:30, 31; Deut. 19:11, 12; 27:24‘Whoever kills any man shall surely be put to death. 18#Lev. 24:21Whoever kills an animal shall make it good, animal for animal.
19‘If a man causes disfigurement of his neighbor, as #Ex. 21:24he has done, so shall it be done to him— 20fracture for #Ex. 21:23; Deut. 19:21fracture, #(Matt. 5:38, 39)eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has caused disfigurement of a man, so shall it be done to him. 21And whoever kills an animal shall restore it; but whoever kills a man shall be put to death. 22You shall have #Ex. 12:49; Lev. 19:33–37; Num. 9:14; 15:15, 16, 29the same law for the stranger and for one from your own country; for I am the Lord your God.’ ”
23Then Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and they took outside the camp him who had cursed, and stoned him with stones. So the children of Israel did as the Lord commanded Moses.

The Lamp and the Bread of the Sanctuary
1Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2“Command the children of Israel to bring to you clear oil from beaten olives for the light [of the golden lampstand], to make a lamp burn continually. 3Outside the veil of the Testimony [between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place] in the Tent of Meeting, Aaron shall always keep the lamps #24:3 Lit it in order.burning before the Lord from evening until morning; it shall be a permanent statute throughout your generations. 4He shall keep the lamps burning on the pure gold lampstand before the Lord continually. [Rev 1:12-18]
5“Then you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes (bread of the Presence, showbread) with it; two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each cake (loaf). 6You shall set the bread of the Presence (showbread) in two rows, six in a row, on the pure gold table before the Lord. 7You shall put pure frankincense [in two censers, one] beside each row, so that it may be with the bread as a memorial portion, an offering by fire to the Lord. 8Every Sabbath day Aaron shall arrange the showbread before the Lord continually; it is an everlasting covenant for the Israelites. 9The bread of the Presence shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a sacred place, for it is for Aaron a most holy portion of the offerings by fire to the Lord, his portion forever.”
10Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the Israelites, and he and a man of Israel quarreled and struggled with each other in the camp. 11The Israelite woman’s son blasphemed the Name [of the Lord] and cursed. So they brought him to Moses. (Now his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.) 12They put him in custody until the will and command of the Lord might be made clear to them.
13Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 14“Bring the one who has cursed [the Lord] outside the camp, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head [as witnesses to his guilt]; then let all the congregation stone him. 15You shall speak to the Israelites, saying, ‘Whoever curses his God will bear his sin [through his own death]. 16Further, the one who blasphemes the name of the Lord shall most certainly be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him. The stranger as well as the native-born shall be put to death when he blasphemes the Name [of the Lord].
“An Eye for an Eye”
17‘If a man takes the life of any human being [unlawfully], he shall most certainly be put to death. 18The one who kills an animal shall replace it, animal for animal. 19If a man injures his neighbor (fellow citizen), whatever he has done shall be done to him: 20fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has injured a man, so shall the same be done to him. [Matt 5:38-42; 7:2] 21The one who kills an animal shall replace it; but he who kills a human being [unlawfully] shall be put to death. 22You shall have one standard of law for the stranger among you as well as for the native, for I am the Lord your God.’ ” 23Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they brought the one who had cursed [the Lord] outside the camp and stoned him with stones. Thus the Israelites did just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
