Jude 1
1
Greeting to the Called
1Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and #Acts 1:13brother of James,
To those who are #Rom. 1:7called, sanctified by God the Father, and #John 17:11, 12preserved in Jesus Christ:
2Mercy, #1 Pet. 1:2; 2 Pet. 1:2peace, and love be multiplied to you.
Contend for the Faith
3Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you #Titus 1:4concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting #Phil. 1:27you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. 4For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Old and New Apostates
5But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that #Ex. 12:51; 1 Cor. 10:5–10; Heb. 3:16the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. 6And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 7as #Gen. 19:24; 2 Pet. 2:6Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
8#2 Pet. 2:10Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and #Ex. 22:28speak evil of dignitaries. 9Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, #Zech. 3:2“The Lord rebuke you!” 10#2 Pet. 2:12But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves. 11Woe to them! For they have gone in the way #Gen. 4:3–8; Heb. 11:4; 1 John 3:12of Cain, #Num. 31:16; 2 Pet. 2:15; Rev. 2:14have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished #Num. 16:1–3, 31–35in the rebellion of Korah.
Apostates Depraved and Doomed
12These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; 13#Is. 57:20raging waves of the sea, #(Phil. 3:19)foaming up their own shame; wandering stars #2 Pet. 2:17; Jude 6for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
14Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, 15to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the #1 Sam. 2:3harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
Apostates Predicted
16These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they #2 Pet. 2:18mouth great swelling words, #Prov. 28:21flattering people to gain advantage. 17#2 Pet. 3:2But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: 18how they told you that #Acts 20:29; (1 Tim. 4:1); 2 Tim. 3:1; 4:3; 2 Pet. 3:3there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. 19These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.
Maintain Your Life with God
20But you, beloved, #Col. 2:7; 1 Thess. 5:11building yourselves up on your most holy faith, #(Rom. 8:26)praying in the Holy Spirit, 21keep yourselves in the love of God, #Titus 2:13; Heb. 9:28; 2 Pet. 3:12looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
22And on some have compassion, making a distinction; 23but #Rom. 11:14others save with fear, #Amos 4:11; Zech. 3:2; 1 Cor. 3:15pulling them out of the fire, hating even #(Zech. 3:4, 5); Rev. 3:4the garment defiled by the flesh.
Glory to God
24#(Eph. 3:20)Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling,
And #Col. 1:22to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
25To God our Savior,
Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power,
Both now and forever.
Amen.

Jude 1
1
1Jude, bondman of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to the called ones beloved in God the Father and preserved in Jesus Christ: 2Mercy to you, and peace, and love be multiplied.
3Beloved, using all diligence to write to you of our common salvation, I have been obliged to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints. 4For certain men have got in unnoticed, they who of old were marked out beforehand to this sentence, ungodly persons, turning the grace of our God into dissoluteness, and denying our only Master and Lord Jesus Christ. 5But I would put you in remembrance, you who once knew all things, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, in the second place destroyed those who had not believed. 6And angels who had not kept their own original state, but had abandoned their own dwelling, he keeps in eternal chains under gloomy darkness, to the judgment of the great day; 7as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities around them, committing greedily fornication, in like manner with them, and going after other flesh, lie there as an example, undergoing the judgment of eternal fire.
8Yet in like manner these dreamers also defile the flesh, and despise lordship, and speak railingly against dignities. 9But Michael the archangel, when disputing with the devil he reasoned about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a railing judgment against him, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. 10But these, whatever things they know not, they speak railingly against; but what even, as the irrational animals, they understand by mere nature, in these things they corrupt themselves. 11Woe to them! because they have gone in the way of Cain, and given themselves up to the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. 12These are spots in your love-feasts, feasting together with you without fear, pasturing themselves; clouds without water, carried along by the winds; autumnal trees, without fruit, twice dead, rooted up; 13raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shames; wandering stars, to whom has been reserved the gloom of darkness for eternity. 14And Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied also as to these, saying, Behold, the Lord has come amidst his holy myriads,
15to execute judgment against all; and to convict all the ungodly of them of all their works of ungodliness, which they have wrought ungodlily, and of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. 16These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their lusts; and their mouth speaks swelling words, admiring persons for the sake of profit. 17But ye, beloved, remember the words spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, 18that they said to you, that at the end of the time there should be mockers, walking after their own lusts of ungodlinesses. 19These are they who set themselves apart, natural men, not having the Spirit. 20But ye, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21keep yourselves in the love of God, awaiting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22And of some have compassion, making a difference, 23but others save with fear, snatching them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. 24But to him that is able to keep you without stumbling, and to set you with exultation blameless before his glory, 25to the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, might, and authority, from before the whole age, and now, and to all the ages. Amen.
