Restoration of Israel and Judah
1The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, 2“Thus speaks the Lord God of Israel, saying: ‘Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you. 3For behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘that #Ps. 53:6; Jer. 29:14; 30:18; 32:44; Ezek. 39:25; Amos 9:14; Zeph. 3:20I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,’ says the Lord. #Jer. 16:15; Ezek. 20:42; 36:24‘And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’ ”
4Now these are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah.
5“For thus says the Lord:
‘We have heard a voice of trembling,
Of fear, and not of peace.
6Ask now, and see,
Whether a man is ever in labor with child?
So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins
#Jer. 4:31; 6:24Like a woman in labor,
And all faces turned pale?
7#(Is. 2:12); Hos. 1:11; Joel 2:11; Amos 5:18; Zeph. 1:14Alas! For that day is great,
#Lam. 1:12; Dan. 9:12; 12:1So that none is like it;
And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble,
But he shall be saved out of it.
8‘For it shall come to pass in that day,’
Says the Lord of hosts,
‘That I will break his yoke from your neck,
And will burst your bonds;
Foreigners shall no more enslave them.
9But they shall serve the Lord their God,
And #Is. 55:3; Ezek. 34:23; 37:24; Hos. 3:5David their king,
Whom I will #(Luke 1:69; Acts 2:30; 13:23)raise up for them.
10‘Therefore #Is. 41:13; 43:5; 44:2; Jer. 46:27, 28do not fear, O My servant Jacob,’ says the Lord,
‘Nor be dismayed, O Israel;
For behold, I will save you from afar,
And your seed #Jer. 3:18from the land of their captivity.
Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet,
And no one shall make him afraid.
11For I am with #(Is. 43:2–5)you,’ says the Lord, ‘to save you;
#Amos 9:8Though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you,
#Jer. 4:27; 46:27, 28Yet I will not make a complete end of you.
But I will correct you #Ps. 6:1; Is. 27:8; Jer. 10:24; 46:28in justice,
And will not let you go altogether unpunished.’
12“For thus says the Lord:
#2 Chr. 36:16; Jer. 15:18‘Your affliction is incurable,
Your wound is severe.
13There is no one to plead your cause,
That you may be bound up;
#Jer. 8:22You have no healing medicines.
14#Jer. 22:20, 22; Lam. 1:2All your lovers have forgotten you;
They do not seek you;
For I have wounded you with the wound #Job 13:24; 16:9; 19:11of an enemy,
With the chastisement #Job 30:21of a cruel one,
For the multitude of your iniquities,
#Jer. 5:6Because your sins have increased.
15Why #Jer. 15:18do you cry about your affliction?
Your sorrow is incurable.
Because of the multitude of your iniquities,
Because your sins have increased,
I have done these things to you.
16‘Therefore all those who devour you #Ex. 23:22; Is. 41:11; Jer. 10:25shall be devoured;
And all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into #Is. 14:2; Joel 3:8captivity;
Those who plunder you shall become #Is. 33:1; Ezek. 39:10plunder,
And all who prey upon you I will make a #Jer. 2:3prey.
17#Ex. 15:26; Ps. 107:20; Is. 30:26; Jer. 33:6For I will restore health to you
And heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord,
‘Because they called you an outcast saying:
“This is Zion;
No one seeks her.” ’
18“Thus says the Lord:
‘Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob’s tents,
And #Ps. 102:13have mercy on his dwelling places;
The city shall be built upon its own mound,
And the palace shall remain according to its own plan.
19Then #Ps. 126:1, 2; Is. 51:11; Jer. 31:4; Zeph. 3:14out of them shall proceed thanksgiving
And the voice of those who make merry;
#Is. 49:19–21; Jer. 23:3; 33:22; Zech. 10:8I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish;
I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.
20Their children also shall be #Is. 1:26as before,
And their congregation shall be established before Me;
And I will punish all who oppress them.
21Their nobles shall be from among them,
#Gen. 49:10And their governor shall come from their midst;
Then I will #Num. 16:5; Ps. 65:4cause him to draw near,
And he shall approach Me;
For who is this who pledged his heart to approach Me?’ says the Lord.
22‘You shall be #Ex. 6:7; Jer. 32:38; Ezek. 36:28; Hos. 2:23; Zech. 13:9My people,
And I will be your God.’ ”
23Behold, the #Jer. 23:19, 20; 25:32whirlwind of the Lord
Goes forth with fury,
A continuing whirlwind;
It will fall violently on the head of the wicked.
24The fierce anger of the Lord will not return until He has done it,
And until He has performed the intents of His heart.
#Gen. 49:1In the latter days you will consider it.

The Return from Captivity Promised
1The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, 2Thus speaketh the Lord God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book. 3For, lo, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the Lord: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.
4And these are the words that the Lord spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah. 5For thus saith the Lord; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. 6Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? 7Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.
8For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him: 9but they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them. 10#Jer 46.27,28. Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the Lord; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid. 11For I am with thee, saith the Lord, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee; but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
12For thus saith the Lord, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous. 13There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines. 14All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased. 15Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee. 16Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey. 17For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.
18Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob's tents, and have mercy on his dwelling places; and the city shall be builded upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof. 19And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. 20Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them. 21And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the Lord. 22And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
23Behold, the whirlwind of the Lord goeth forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked. 24The fierce anger of the Lord shall not return, until he have done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it.
