Isaiah 54
54
A Perpetual Covenant of Peace
1“Sing, O #Gal. 4:27barren,
You who have not borne!
Break forth into singing, and cry aloud,
You who have not labored with child!
For more are the children of the desolate
Than the children of the married woman,” says the Lord.
2“Enlarge#Is. 49:19, 20 the place of your tent,
And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings;
Do not spare;
Lengthen your cords,
And strengthen your stakes.
3For you shall expand to the right and to the left,
And your descendants will #Is. 14:2; 49:22, 23; 60:9inherit the nations,
And make the desolate cities inhabited.
4“Do#Is. 41:10 not fear, for you will not be ashamed;
Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame;
For you will forget the shame of your youth,
And will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore.
5#Jer. 3:14; Hos. 2:19For your Maker is your husband,
The Lord of hosts is His name;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel;
He is called #Zech. 14:9; Rom. 3:29the God of the whole earth.
6For the Lord #Is. 62:4has called you
Like a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit,
Like a youthful wife when you were refused,”
Says your God.
7“For#Ps. 30:5; Is. 26:20; 60:10; 2 Cor. 4:17 a mere moment I have forsaken you,
But with great mercies #(Is. 43:5; 56:8)I will gather you.
8With a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment;
#Is. 55:3; Jer. 31:3But with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you,”
Says the Lord, your Redeemer.
9“For this is like the waters of #Gen. 8:21; 9:11; (2 Pet. 3:6, 7)Noah to Me;
For as I have sworn
That the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth,
So have I sworn
That I would not be angry with #Is. 12:1; Ezek. 39:29you, nor rebuke you.
10For #Ps. 46:2; Is. 51:6; Matt. 5:18the mountains shall depart
And the hills be removed,
#2 Sam. 23:5; Ps. 89:33, 34; Is. 55:3; 59:21; 61:8But My kindness shall not depart from you,
Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,”
Says the Lord, who has mercy on you.
11“O you afflicted one,
Tossed with tempest, and not comforted,
Behold, I will lay your stones with #1 Chr. 29:2; Job 28:16; Rev. 21:18, 19colorful gems,
And lay your foundations with sapphires.
12I will make your pinnacles of rubies,
Your gates of crystal,
And all your walls of precious stones.
13All your children shall be #Jer. 31:34; (John 6:45; 1 Cor. 2:10); 1 Thess. 4:9; (1 John 2:20)taught by the Lord,
And #Ps. 119:165great shall be the peace of your children.
14In righteousness you shall be established;
You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear;
And from terror, for it shall not come near you.
15Indeed they shall surely assemble, but not because of Me.
Whoever assembles against you shall #Is. 41:11–16fall for your sake.
16“Behold, I have created the blacksmith
Who blows the coals in the fire,
Who brings forth an instrument for his work;
And I have created the spoiler to destroy.
17No weapon formed against you shall #Is. 17:12–14; 29:8prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
#Is. 45:24, 25; 54:14And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord.

Isaiah 54
54
Your Husband is Your Maker
1“Sing, barren one, who has not given birth. burst into singing and shout, you who have not travailed. For more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married one,” says Adonai.
2“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch out your tabernacle curtains. Do not hold back— lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.
3For you will spread out to the right hand and to the left. Your offspring will possess the nations and will resettle the desolate cities.
4Fear not, for you will not be ashamed. Nor cringe, for you will not be disgraced. For you will forget the shame of your youth, and you will remember the reproach of your widowhood no more.
5For your Maker is your husband —Adonai-Tzva’ot is His Name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer. He will be called God of all the earth.
6“For Adonai has called you back like a wife deserted and grieved in spirit, like a wife of one’s youth that is rejected,” says your God.
7“For a brief moment I deserted you, but I will regather you with great compassion.
8In a surge of anger I hid My face from you a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you,” says Adonai your Redeemer.
9“For this is like the waters of Noah to Me: for as I swore that the waters of Noah should no more cover the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, nor will I rebuke you.
10Though the mountains depart and the hills be shaken, My love will not depart from you, nor will My covenant of peace be shaken, says Adonai who has compassion on you.
11Afflicted one, storm-tossed, unconsoled, behold, I set your stones in antimony, lay your foundations with sapphires,
12make your pinnacles of rubies, your gates of crystal, and all your walls of precious stones.
13All your children will be taught by Adonai. Your children will have great shalom.
No Weapon Formed Against You
14“In righteousness you will be established. You will be far from oppression —for you will not fear— and from terror— for it will not come near you.
15Behold, anyone fiercely attacking is not from Me. Whoever stirs up strife with you will fall because of you.
16Behold, I created the smith who blows the fire of coals and produces a weapon for its work, and I created the destroyer to ruin.
17No weapon formed against you will prosper and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Adonai’s servants— their vindication is from Me.” It is a declaration of Adonai.
