The Passover Instituted
1Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, 2#Ex. 13:4; 23:15; 34:18; Deut. 16:1“This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you. 3Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the #Josh. 4:19tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household. 4And if the household is too small for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next to his house take it according to the number of the persons; according to each man’s need you shall make your count for the lamb. 5Your lamb shall be #Lev. 22:18–21; 23:12; Mal. 1:8, 14; (Heb. 9:14; 1 Pet. 1:19)without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats. 6Now you shall keep it until the #Ex. 12:14, 17; Lev. 23:5; Num. 9:1–3, 11; 28:16; Deut. 16:1, 4, 6fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. 7And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it. 8Then they shall eat the flesh on that #Ex. 34:25; Num. 9:12night; #Deut. 16:7roasted in fire, with #Deut. 16:3, 4; 1 Cor. 5:8unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9Do not eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but #Deut. 16:7roasted in fire—its head with its legs and its entrails. 10#Ex. 16:19; 23:18; 34:25You shall let none of it remain until morning, and what remains of it until morning you shall burn with fire. 11And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. #Ex. 12:13, 21, 27, 43It is the Lord’s Passover.
12‘For I #Ex. 11:4, 5will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and #Num. 33:4against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: #Ex. 6:2I am the Lord. 13Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
14‘So this day shall be to you #Ex. 13:9a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a #Lev. 23:4, 5; 2 Kin. 23:21feast #Ex. 12:17, 24; 13:10by an everlasting ordinance. 15#Ex. 13:6, 7; 23:15; 34:18; Lev. 23:6; Num. 28:17; Deut. 16:3, 8Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, #Gen. 17:14; Ex. 12:19; Num. 9:13that person shall be cut off from Israel. 16On the first day there shall be #Lev. 23:2, 7, 8; Num. 28:18, 25a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation for you. No manner of work shall be done on them; but that which everyone must eat—that only may be prepared by you. 17So you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for #Ex. 12:14; 13:3, 10on this same day I will have brought your armies #Num. 33:1out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as an everlasting ordinance. 18#Ex. 12:2; Lev. 23:5–8; Num. 28:16–25In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening. 19For #Ex. 12:15; 23:15; 34:18seven days no leaven shall be found in your houses, since whoever eats what is leavened, that same person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is a stranger or a native of the land. 20You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.’ ”
21Then #(Heb. 11:28)Moses called for all the #Ex. 3:16elders of Israel and said to them, #Ex. 12:3; Num. 9:4; Josh. 5:10; 2 Kin. 23:21; Ezra 6:20; Mark 14:12–16“Pick out and take lambs for yourselves according to your families, and kill the Passover lamb. 22#Heb. 11:28And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and #Ex. 12:7strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning. 23#Ex. 11:4; 12:12, 13For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the #Ex. 24:8blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and #Ezek. 9:6; Rev. 7:3; 9:4not allow #1 Cor. 10:10; Heb. 11:28the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you. 24And you shall #Ex. 12:14, 17; 13:5, 10observe this thing as an ordinance for you and your sons forever. 25It will come to pass when you come to the land which the Lord will give you, j#Ex. 3:8, 17ust as He promised, that you shall keep this service. 26#Ex. 10:2; 13:8, 14, 15; Deut. 32:7; Josh. 4:6; Ps. 78:6And it shall be, when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ 27that you shall say, #Ex. 12:11‘It is the Passover sacrifice of the Lord, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians and delivered our households.’ ” So the people #Ex. 4:31bowed their heads and worshiped. 28Then the children of Israel went away and #(Heb. 11:28)did so; just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.
The Tenth Plague: Death of the Firstborn
29#Ex. 11:4, 5And it came to pass at midnight that #Num. 8:17; 33:4; Ps. 135:8; 136:10the Lord struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of #Ex. 9:6livestock. 30So Pharaoh rose in the night, he, all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead.
The Exodus
31Then he #Ex. 10:28, 29called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, “Rise, go out from among my people, #Ex. 8:25; 11:1both you and the children of Israel. And go, serve the Lord as you have #Ex. 10:9said. 32#Ex. 10:9, 26Also take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone; and bless me also.”
33#Ex. 10:7And the Egyptians #Ex. 11:8; Ps. 105:38urged the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste. For they said, “We shall all be dead.” 34So the people took their dough before it was leavened, having their kneading bowls bound up in their clothes on their shoulders. 35Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians #Ex. 3:21, 22; 11:2, 3; Ps. 105:37articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing. 36#Ex. 3:21And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus #Gen. 15:14they plundered the Egyptians.
37Then #Num. 33:3, 5the children of Israel journeyed from #Gen. 47:11; Ex. 1:11; Num. 33:3, 4Rameses to Succoth, about #Gen. 12:2; Ex. 38:26; Num. 1:46; 2:32; 11:21; 26:51six hundred thousand men on foot, besides children. 38A #Num. 11:4mixed multitude went up with them also, and flocks and herds—a great deal of #Ex. 17:3; Num. 20:19; 32:1; Deut. 3:19livestock. 39And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they had brought out of Egypt; for it was not leavened, because #Ex. 6:1; 11:1; 12:31–33they were driven out of Egypt and could not wait, nor had they prepared provisions for themselves.
40Now the sojourn of the children of Israel who lived in Egypt was #Gen. 15:13, 16; Acts 7:6; Gal. 3:17four hundred and thirty years. 41And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years—on that very same day—it came to pass that #Ex. 3:8, 10; 6:6; 7:4all the armies of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt. 42It is #Ex. 13:10; 34:18; Deut. 16:1, 6a night of solemn observance to the Lord for bringing them out of the land of Egypt. This is that night of the Lord, a solemn observance for all the children of Israel throughout their generations.
Passover Regulations
43And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is #Ex. 12:11; Num. 9:14the ordinance of the Passover: No foreigner shall eat it. 44But every man’s servant who is bought for money, when you have #Gen. 17:12, 13; Lev. 22:11circumcised him, then he may eat it. 45#Lev. 22:10A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat it. 46In one house it shall be eaten; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, #Num. 9:12; Ps. 34:20; (John 19:33, 36)nor shall you break one of its bones. 47#Ex. 12:6; Num. 9:13, 14All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. 48And #Num. 9:14when a stranger dwells with you and wants to keep the Passover to the Lord, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as a native of the land. For no uncircumcised person shall eat it. 49#Lev. 24:22; Num. 15:15, 16; (Gal. 3:28)One law shall be for the native-born and for the stranger who dwells among you.”
50Thus all the children of Israel did; as the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did. 51#Ex. 12:41; 20:2And it came to pass, on that very same day, that the Lord brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt #Ex. 6:26according to their armies.

A instituição da primeira Páscoa
1E falou o Senhor a Moisés e a Arão na terra do Egito, dizendo: 2Este mesmo #Êx 13.4; 34.18mês vos será o princípio dos meses; este vos será o primeiro dos meses do ano. 3Falai a toda a congregação de Israel, dizendo: Aos dez deste mês, tome cada um para si um cordeiro, segundo as casas dos pais, um cordeiro para cada casa. 4Mas, se a família for pequena para um cordeiro, então, tome um só com seu vizinho perto de sua casa, conforme o número das almas; conforme o comer de cada um, fareis a conta para o cordeiro. 5O cordeiro, ou cabrito, será sem mácula, um macho #Lv 22.19,21; Dt 17.1; Ml 1.8,14; 1Pe 1.19de um ano, o qual tomareis das ovelhas ou das cabras 6e o guardareis até ao décimo quarto dia deste mês, #Lv 23.5; Nm 9.3; 28.16; Dt 16.1,6e todo o ajuntamento da congregação de Israel o sacrificará à #12.6 Hebr. entre as duas tardestarde. 7E tomarão do sangue e pô-lo-ão em ambas as ombreiras e na verga da porta, nas casas em que o comerem. 8E naquela noite comerão a carne assada no fogo, #Êx 34.25; Dt 16.3; 1Co 5.8com pães asmos; com ervas amargosas a comerão. 9Não comereis dele nada cru, nem cozido em água, senão assado ao fogo; a cabeça com os pés e com a fressura. 10E nada dele deixareis até pela manhã; #Êx 23.18mas o que dele ficar até pela manhã, queimareis no fogo. 11Assim, pois, o comereis: os vossos lombos cingidos, #Lc 12.35; Ef 6.14-15os vossos sapatos nos pés, e o vosso cajado na mão; e o comereis apressadamente; esta é a Páscoa do Senhor. 12E eu passarei pela terra do Egito esta noite e ferirei todo primogênito na terra do Egito, desde os homens até aos animais; #Nm 33.4e sobre todos os deuses do Egito farei juízos. Eu sou o Senhor. 13E aquele sangue vos será por sinal nas casas em que estiverdes; vendo eu sangue, passarei por cima de vós, e não haverá entre vós praga de mortandade, quando eu ferir a terra do Egito.
14E este dia vos será por memória, #Lv 23.4-5e celebrá-lo-eis por festa ao Senhor; nas vossas gerações o celebrareis por estatuto perpétuo. 15Sete dias comereis #Êx 13.6pães asmos; ao primeiro dia, tirareis o fermento das vossas casas; porque qualquer que comer pão levedado, desde o primeiro até ao sétimo dia, aquela alma será cortada de Israel. 16E, ao primeiro dia, haverá santa convocação; também, ao sétimo dia, tereis santa convocação; #Nm 29.12nenhuma obra se fará neles, senão o que cada alma houver de comer; isso somente aprontareis para vós. 17Guardai, pois, a Festa dos Pães Asmos, porque naquele mesmo dia tirei vossos exércitos da terra do Egito; pelo que guardareis este dia nas vossas gerações por estatuto perpétuo. 18No primeiro mês, aos catorze dias do mês, à tarde, comereis pães asmos até vinte e um do mês à tarde. 19Por sete dias não se ache nenhum fermento nas vossas casas; #Êx 23.15; 34.18porque qualquer que comer pão levedado, aquela alma será cortada da congregação de Israel, assim o estrangeiro como o natural da terra. 20Nenhuma coisa levedada comereis; em todas as vossas habitações comereis pães asmos.
21Chamou, pois, Moisés a todos os anciãos de Israel e disse-lhes: Escolhei, e tomai vós cordeiros para vossas famílias, e sacrificai a #Js 5.10; 2Rs 23.21; Ed 6.20; Mt 26.18Páscoa. 22Então, tomai um molho de hissopo, e molhai-o no sangue que estiver na bacia, e lançai na verga da porta, e em ambas as ombreiras, do sangue que estiver na bacia; #Hb 11.28porém nenhum de vós saia da porta da sua casa até à manhã. 23Porque o Senhor passará para ferir aos egípcios, porém, quando vir o sangue na verga da porta e em ambas as ombreiras, o Senhor passará aquela #2Sm 24.16; Ez 9.4,6; Ap 7.3; 9.4porta e não deixará ao destruidor entrar em vossas casas para vos ferir. 24Portanto, guardai isto por estatuto para vós e para vossos filhos, para sempre. 25E acontecerá que, quando entrardes na terra que o Senhor vos dará, como tem dito, guardareis este culto. 26E acontecerá que, quando vossos filhos vos disserem: Que culto é este #Êx 13.8,14; Js 4.6; Sl 78.6vosso? 27Então, direis: Este é o sacrifício da Páscoa ao Senhor, que passou as casas dos filhos de Israel no Egito, quando feriu aos egípcios e livrou as nossas casas. Então, o povo inclinou-se e #Êx 4.31adorou.
28E foram os filhos de Israel e fizeram isso; como o Senhor ordenara a Moisés e a Arão, assim fizeram.
A morte dos primogênitos
29E aconteceu, à meia-noite, que o Senhor feriu todos os primogênitos na terra do Egito, #Nm 3.13; 33.4; Sl 78.51; 105.36; 135.8; 136.10; Hb 11.28desde o primogênito de Faraó, que se sentava em seu trono, até ao primogênito do cativo que estava no cárcere, e todos os primogênitos dos animais. 30E Faraó levantou-se de noite, ele, e todos os seus servos, e todos os egípcios; e havia grande clamor no Egito, #Êx 11.6porque não havia casa em que não houvesse um morto. 31Então, chamou a Moisés e a Arão de noite e disse: Levantai-vos, saí do meio do meu povo, tanto vós como os filhos de Israel; e ide, servi ao Senhor, como tendes dito. 32Levai também convosco vossas ovelhas e vossas vacas, como tendes dito; e ide e abençoai-me também a mim. 33E os egípcios apertavam #Sl 105.38ao povo, apressando-se para lançá-los da terra; porque diziam: Todos seremos mortos.
34E o povo tomou a sua massa, antes que levedasse, e as suas amassadeiras atadas em suas vestes, sobre seus ombros. 35Fizeram, pois, os filhos de Israel conforme a palavra de Moisés e pediram aos egípcios #12.35 ou joiasvasos de prata, e vasos de ouro, e #Êx 11.2vestes. 36E o Senhor deu graça ao povo em os olhos dos egípcios, e estes #12.36 Hebr. davam-lhes o que lhes pediamemprestavam-lhes, e eles despojavam #Êx 3.21os egípcios.
A saída dos israelitas do Egito
37Assim, partiram os filhos de Israel de Ramessés #Nm 1.46; 11.21; 33.3,5para Sucote, coisa de seiscentos mil de pé, somente de varões, sem contar os meninos. 38E subiu também com eles uma mistura #Nm 11.4de gente, e ovelhas, e vacas, uma grande multidão de gado. 39E cozeram bolos asmos da massa que levaram do Egito, porque não se tinha levedado, porquanto foram lançados do Egito; e não se puderam deter, nem prepararam comida.
40O tempo que os filhos de Israel habitaram no Egito #Gn 15.13; At 7.6; Gl 3.17foi de quatrocentos e trinta anos. 41E aconteceu que, passados os quatrocentos e trinta anos, naquele mesmo dia, todos os exércitos do Senhor saíram da terra do Egito. 42Esta noite se guardará ao Senhor, porque nela os tirou da terra do Egito; esta é a noite do Senhor, que devem guardar todos os filhos de Israel #Dt 16.1,6nas suas gerações. 43Disse mais o Senhor a Moisés e a Arão: Esta é a ordenança da Páscoa; nenhum filho de estrangeiro comerá #Ef 2.19dela. 44Porém todo servo de qualquer, comprado por dinheiro, depois que o houveres circuncidado, #Fp 3.3então, comerá dela. 45O estrangeiro e o assalariado não comerão #Lv 22.10; Ef 2.12dela. 46Numa casa se comerá; não levarás daquela carne fora da casa, nem dela quebrareis #Nm 9.12; Jo 19.36osso. 47Toda a congregação de Israel o fará. 48Porém, se algum estrangeiro se hospedar contigo e quiser celebrar a Páscoa ao Senhor, seja-lhe circuncidado todo macho, e, então, chegará a celebrá-la, e será como o natural da terra; mas nenhum incircunciso comerá dela. 49Uma mesma lei haja para o natural e para o estrangeiro que peregrinar entre #Nm 9.14; Gl 3.28; Cl 3.11vós. 50E todos os filhos de Israel o fizeram; como o Senhor ordenara a Moisés e a Arão, assim fizeram. 51E aconteceu, naquele mesmo dia, #Êx 6.26; 12.41que o Senhor tirou os filhos de Israel da terra do Egito, segundo os seus exércitos.
