The King Honors Mordecai
1That night the king could not sleep. So one was commanded to bring #Esth. 2:23, 10:2the book of the records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king. 2And it was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, the doorkeepers who had sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. 3Then the king said, “What honor or dignity has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?”
And the king’s servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.”
4So the king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had just entered #Esth. 5:1the outer court of the king’s palace #Esth. 5:14to suggest that the king hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5The king’s servants said to him, “Haman is there, standing in the court.”
And the king said, “Let him come in.”
6So Haman came in, and the king asked him, “What shall be done for the man whom the king delights to honor?”
Now Haman thought in his heart, “Whom would the king delight to honor more than #(Prov. 16:18; 18:12)me?” 7And Haman answered the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor, 8let a royal robe be brought which the king has worn, and #1 Kin. 1:33a horse on which the king has ridden, which has a royal crest placed on its head. 9Then let this robe and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that he may array the man whom the king delights to honor. Then parade him on horseback through the city square, #Gen. 41:43and proclaim before him: ‘Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’ ”
10Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry, take the robe and the horse, as you have suggested, and do so for Mordecai the Jew who sits within the king’s gate! Leave nothing undone of all that you have spoken.”
11So Haman took the robe and the horse, arrayed Mordecai and led him on horseback through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!”
12Afterward Mordecai went back to the king’s gate. But Haman #2 Chr. 26:20hurried to his house, mourning #2 Sam. 15:30; Jer. 14:3, 4and with his head covered. 13When Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened to him, his wise men and his wife Zeresh said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against #(Gen. 12:3); Zech. 2:8him but will surely fall before him.”
14While they were still talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hastened to bring Haman to #Esth. 5:8the banquet which Esther had prepared.

Esther 6
6
1 On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king. 2It was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who were doorkeepers, who had tried to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus. 3The king said, “What honour and dignity has been given to Mordecai for this?”
Then the king’s servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.”
4 The king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had come into the outer court of the king’s house, to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5 The king’s servants said to him, “Behold,#6:5 “Behold”, from “הִנֵּה”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection. Haman stands in the court.”
The king said, “Let him come in.” 6So Haman came in. The king said to him, “What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honour?”
Now Haman said in his heart, “Who would the king delight to honour more than myself?” 7Haman said to the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honour, 8let royal clothing be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides on, and on the head of which a royal crown is set. 9Let the clothing and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delights to honour with them, and have him ride on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him, ‘Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honour!’”
10 Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry and take the clothing and the horse, as you have said, and do this for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Let nothing fail of all that you have spoken.”
11 Then Haman took the clothing and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and had him ride through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honour!”
12 Mordecai came back to the king’s gate, but Haman hurried to his house, mourning and having his head covered. 13Haman recounted to Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against him, but you will surely fall before him.” 14While they were yet talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
