Therefore the #2 Chr. 32:25wrath of the Lord is upon you. 3Nevertheless #2 Chr. 17:4, 6good things are found in you, in that you have removed the wooden images from the land, and have #2 Chr. 30:19prepared your heart to seek God.”
The Reforms of Jehoshaphat
4So Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem; and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the mountains of Ephraim, and brought them back to the Lord God of their #2 Chr. 15:8–13fathers. 5Then he set #(Deut. 16:18–20)judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city, 6and said to the judges, “Take heed to what you are doing, for #(Lev. 19:15; Deut. 1:17); Ps. 58:1you do not judge for man but for the Lord, #Ps. 82:1; (Eccl. 5:8)who is with you in the judgment. 7Now therefore, let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take care and do it, for #(Gen. 18:25; Deut. 32:4); Rom. 9:17there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, no #(Deut. 10:17, 18; Job 34:19); Acts 10:34; Rom. 2:11; Gal. 2:6; (Eph. 6:9; Col. 3:25)partiality, nor taking of bribes.”
8Moreover in Jerusalem, for the judgment of the Lord and for controversies, Jehoshaphat #Deut. 16:18; 2 Chr. 17:8appointed some of the Levites and priests, and some of the chief fathers of Israel, when they returned to Jerusalem. 9And he commanded them, saying, “Thus you shall act #(2 Sam. 23:3)in the fear of the Lord, faithfully and with a loyal heart: 10#Deut. 17:8Whatever case comes to you from your brethren who dwell in their cities, whether of bloodshed or offenses against law or commandment, against statutes or ordinances, you shall warn them, lest they trespass against the Lord and #Num. 16:46wrath come upon #(Ezek. 3:18)you and your brethren. Do this, and you will not be guilty. 11And take notice: #Ezra 7:3Amariah the chief priest is over you #1 Chr. 26:30in all matters of the Lord; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters; also the Levites will be officials before you. Behave courageously, and the Lord will be #(2 Chr. 15:2; 20:17)with the good.”

Jehoshaphat’s Reforms
1Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned in safety to his house in Jerusalem. 2But #ch. 20:34; 1 Kgs. 16:1 Jehu the son of #ch. 16:7 Hanani #See 1 Sam. 9:9 the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you #[ch. 18:1; 20:37; Ps. 139:21] help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Because of this, #ver. 10; ch. 24:18; 32:25wrath has gone out against you from the Lord. 3Nevertheless, #ch. 12:12; 1 Kgs. 14:13 some good is found in you, for #ch. 17:6 you destroyed the Asheroth out of the land, and have #ch. 30:19; Ezra 7:10set your heart to seek God.”
4Jehoshaphat lived at Jerusalem. And he went out again among the people, from Beersheba to #See Josh. 24:33the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back to the Lord, the God of their fathers. 5He appointed #[Deut. 16:18] judges in the land in all #See ch. 11:5the fortified cities of Judah, city by city, 6and said to the judges, “Consider what you do, #Deut. 1:17for you judge not for man but for the Lord. He is with you in giving judgment. 7Now then, let the fear of the Lord be upon you. Be careful what you do, for #Deut. 32:4; Job 8:3; 34:10; [Gen. 18:25; Rom. 9:14] there is no injustice with the Lord our God, #See Deut. 10:17or partiality or taking bribes.”
8Moreover, in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat #ch. 17:8, 9 appointed certain Levites and priests and heads of families of Israel, #[See ver. 6 above]to give judgment for the Lord and to decide disputed cases. They had their seat at Jerusalem. 9And he charged them: #2 Sam. 23:3 “Thus you shall do in the fear of the Lord, in faithfulness, #1 Kgs. 8:61and with your whole heart: 10#See Deut. 17:8 whenever a case comes to you from your brothers who live in their cities, concerning bloodshed, law or commandment, statutes or rules, then you shall warn them, that they may not incur guilt before the Lord and #ver. 2wrath may not come upon you and your brothers. Thus you shall do, and you will not incur guilt. 11And behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you #1 Chr. 26:30, 32 in all matters of the Lord; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the governor of the house of Judah, in all the king’s matters, and the Levites will serve you as officers. #1 Chr. 28:10; [Ezra 10:4]Deal courageously, and may the Lord be with the upright!”#19:11 Hebrew the good
