1
Greeting
1Paul, #1 Pet. 5:12Silvanus, and Timothy,
To the church of the #Acts 17:1–9Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Their Good Example
2#Rom. 1:8; 2 Thess. 1:3We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, 3remembering without ceasing #John 6:29your work of faith, #Rom. 16:6labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, 4knowing, beloved brethren, #Col. 3:12your election by God. 5For #Mark 16:20our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, #2 Cor. 6:6and in the Holy Spirit #Heb. 2:3and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.
6And #1 Cor. 4:16; 11:1you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, #Acts 5:41; 13:52; 2 Cor. 6:10; Gal. 5:22with joy of the Holy Spirit, 7so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe. 8For from you the word of the Lord #Rom. 10:18has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also #Rom. 1:8; 16:19; 2 Cor. 2:14; 2 Thess. 1:4in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. 9For they themselves declare concerning us #1 Thess. 2:1what manner of entry we had to you, #1 Cor. 12:2and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10and #(Rom. 2:7)to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us #Matt. 3:7; Rom. 5:9from the wrath to come.

1 Thessalonians 1
1
1Paul, Silas#1:1 Greek Silvanus, a variant of Silas and Timothy,
To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
Grace and peace to you.
Thanksgiving for the Thessalonians’ faith
2We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. 3We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labour prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
4For we know, brothers and sisters#1:4 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in 2:1, 9, 14, 17; 3:7; 4:1, 10, 13; 5:1, 4, 12, 14, 25, 27. loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. 6You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 7And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia – your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, 9for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead – Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
