Hebrews 2
2
Warning to pay attention
1We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
Jesus made fully human
5It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6But there is a place where someone has testified:
‘What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
a son of man that you care for him?
7You made them a little#2:7 Or them for a little while lower than the angels;
you crowned them with glory and honour
8and put everything under their feet.’#2:6-8 Psalm 8:4-6#2:7,8 Or 7 You made him a little lower than the angels; / you crowned him with glory and honour / 8 and put everything under his feet.’
In putting everything under them,#2:8 Or him God left nothing that is not subject to them.#2:8 Or him Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them.#2:8 Or him 9But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honour because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
10In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. 11Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.#2:11 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in verse 12; and in 3:1, 12; 10:19; 13:22. 12He says,
‘I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters;
in the assembly I will sing your praises.’#2:12 Psalm 22:22
13And again,
‘I will put my trust in him.’#2:13 Isaiah 8:17
And again he says,
‘Here am I, and the children God has given me.’#2:13 Isaiah 8:18
14Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death – that is, the devil – 15and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. 17For this reason he had to be made like them,#2:17 Or like his brothers fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Hebrews 2

Warning Not to Drift Away
1For this reason it is necessary for us to pay especially close attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
2For if the word spoken through angels proved to be firm, and every violation and disobedience received a just payback,
3how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? It was first spoken through the Lord and confirmed to us by those who heard.
4At the same time, God was testifying by signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Ruach ha-Kodesh, according to His will.
Yeshua Greater than Angels
5For it is not to angels that God has subjected the olam ha-ba —about which we speak.
6But somewhere someone has testified, saying, “What is man, that You are mindful of him, or the son of man, that You care for him?
7For a little while, You made him lower than the angels. You crowned him with glory and honor.
8You put all things in subjection underneath his feet.” For when He put all things in subjection to him, He left nothing outside his control. But for now we do not yet see all things subjected to him.
9But we see One who was made for a little while lower than the angels—namely, Yeshua. He is now crowned with glory and honor, because of the death He suffered so that, by the grace of God, He might taste death for everyone.
10For it was fitting for God—for whom and through whom all things exist—in leading many sons to glory, to perfect through sufferings the initiator of their salvation.
11For both He who sanctifies and those being sanctified are all from one—so He is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters,
12saying, “I will proclaim Your name to My brothers and sisters. In the midst of the congregation I will sing praise to You.”
13And again, “I will put My trust in Him.” And again, “Here am I and the children God has given Me.”
14Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared the same humanity—so that through death He might break the power of the one who had the power of death (that is, the devil)
15and free those who by fear of death were in bondage all their lives.
16For surely He is not concerned about angels, but about the seed of Abraham.
17Therefore He had to be made like His brothers in all things, so He might become a merciful and faithful Kohen Gadol in matters relating to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.
18Because He Himself suffered when put to the test, He is able to help those being tested.
