Proverbs 11
11
1The Lord hates it when people use scales to cheat others.
But he is delighted when people use honest weights.
2When pride comes, shame follows.
But wisdom comes to those who are not proud.
3Those who do what is right are guided by their honest lives.
But those who aren’t faithful are destroyed by their lies.
4Wealth isn’t worth anything when God judges you.
But doing what is right saves you from death.
5The ways of honest people are made straight because they do what is right.
But those who do what is wrong are brought down by their own sins.
6Godly people are saved by doing what is right.
But those who aren’t faithful are trapped by evil longings.
7Hopes placed in human beings will die with them.
Everything their power promised comes to nothing.
8Those who do right are saved from trouble.
But trouble comes on those who do wrong.
9With their words ungodly people destroy their neighbors.
But those who do what is right escape because of their knowledge.
10When those who do right succeed, their city is glad.
When those who do wrong die, people shout for joy.
11The blessing of honest people builds up a city.
But the words of sinners destroy it.
12Whoever makes fun of their neighbor has no sense.
But the one who has understanding controls their tongue.
13Those who talk about others will tell secrets.
But those who can be trusted keep the secrets of others.
14Without guidance a nation falls.
But many good advisers can bring victory to a nation.
15Whoever promises to pay for what someone else owes will certainly suffer.
But a person who doesn’t agree to pay someone else’s bill is safe.
16A woman who has a kind heart gains honor.
But men who are not kind gain only wealth.
17Those who are kind benefit themselves.
But mean people bring ruin on themselves.
18An evil person really earns nothing.
But the one who plants what is right will certainly be rewarded.
19Surely right living leads to life.
But whoever runs after evil finds death.
20The Lord hates those whose hearts are twisted.
But he is pleased with those who live without blame.
21You can be sure that sinners will be punished.
And you can also be sure that godly people will go free.
22A beautiful woman who has no sense
is like a gold ring in a pig’s nose.
23What godly people long for ends only in what is good.
But what sinners hope for ends only in God’s anger.
24One person gives freely but gets even richer.
Another person doesn’t give what they should but gets even poorer.
25Anyone who gives a lot will succeed.
Anyone who renews others will be renewed.
26People ask for bad things to happen to those who store up grain for themselves.
But people ask for God’s blessing on those who are willing to sell.
27Anyone who looks for what is good will be blessed.
But bad things will happen to a person who plans to do evil.
28Those who trust in their riches will fall.
But those who do right will be as healthy as a green leaf.
29Those who bring ruin on their families will receive nothing but wind.
And foolish people will serve wise people.
30The fruit that godly people bear is like a tree of life.
And those who are wise save lives.
31Godly people get what they should get on earth.
So ungodly people and sinners will certainly get what they should get!

Proverbs 11
11
The Value of Righteousness
1Dishonest scales are disgusting to the Lord,
but accurate weights are pleasing to him.
2Arrogance comes,
then comes shame,
but wisdom remains with humble people.
3Integrity guides decent people,
but hypocrisy leads treacherous people to ruin.
4Riches are of no help on the day of fury,
but righteousness saves from death.
5The righteousness of innocent people makes their road smooth,
but wicked people fall by their own wickedness.
6Decent people are saved by their righteousness,
but treacherous people are trapped by their own greed.
7At the death of a wicked person, hope vanishes.
Moreover, his confidence in strength vanishes.
8A righteous person is rescued from trouble,
and a wicked person takes his place.
9With his talk a godless person can ruin his neighbor,
but righteous people are rescued by knowledge.
10When righteous people prosper, a city is glad.
When wicked people die, there are songs of joy.
11With the blessing of decent people a city is raised up,
but by the words of wicked people, it is torn down.
12A person who despises a neighbor has no sense,
but a person who has understanding keeps quiet.
13Whoever gossips gives away secrets,
but whoever is trustworthy in spirit can keep a secret.
14A nation will fall when there is no direction,
but with many advisers there is victory.
15Whoever guarantees a stranger’s loan will get into trouble,
but whoever hates the closing of a deal remains secure.
16A gracious woman wins respect,
but ruthless men gain riches.
17A merciful person helps himself,
but a cruel person hurts himself.
18A wicked person earns dishonest wages,
but whoever spreads righteousness earns honest pay.
19As righteousness leads to life,
so whoever pursues evil finds his own death.
20Devious people are disgusting to the Lord,
but he is delighted with those whose ways are innocent.
21Certainly, an evil person will not go unpunished,
but the descendants of righteous people will escape.
22 ⌞Like⌟ a gold ring in a pig’s snout,
⌞so⌟ is a beautiful woman who lacks good taste.
23The desire of righteous people ends only in good,
but the hope of wicked people ends only in fury.
24One person spends freely and yet grows richer,
while another holds back what he owes and yet grows poorer.
25A generous person will be made rich,
and whoever satisfies others will himself be satisfied.#11:25 Or “and whoever gives someone a drink will also get a drink.”
26People will curse the one who hoards grain,
but a blessing will be upon the head of the one who sells it.
27Whoever eagerly seeks good searches for good will,
but whoever looks for evil finds it.
28Whoever trusts his riches will fall,
but righteous people will flourish like a green leaf.
29Whoever brings trouble upon his family inherits ⌞only⌟ wind,
and that stubborn fool becomes a slave to the wise in heart.
30The fruit of a righteous person is a tree of life,
and a winner of souls is wise.
31If the righteous person is rewarded on earth,
how much more the wicked person and the sinner!
