Israel Arrives at the Borders of Canaan
1The Lord said to Moses, 2“Give the Israelites a command. Tell them, ‘You are going to enter Canaan. The land will be given to you as your own. Here are the borders it must have.
3“ ‘Your southern border will include part of the Desert of Zin. It will be along the border of Edom. Your southern border will start in the east from the southern end of the Dead Sea. 4It will cross south of Scorpion Pass. It will continue on to Zin. From there it will go south of Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and over to Azmon. 5There it will turn and join the Wadi of Egypt. It will come to an end at the Mediterranean Sea.
6Your western border will be the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. That will be your border on the west.
7For your northern border, run a line from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor. 8Continue it from Mount Hor to Lebo Hamath. Then the border will go to Zedad. 9It will continue to Ziphron. It will come to an end at Hazar Enan. That will be your border on the north.
10For your eastern border, run a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham. 11The border will go down from Shepham to Riblah. Riblah is on the east side of Ain. From there the border will continue along the slopes east of the Sea of Galilee. 12Then the border will go down along the Jordan River. It will come to an end at the Dead Sea.
“ ‘That will be your land. And those will be its borders on every side.’ ”
13Moses gave the Israelites a command. He said, “Cast lots when you divide up the land. Each tribe will have its own share. The Lord has ordered it to be given to the nine and a half tribes. 14The families of the tribes of Reuben and Gad have already received their shares. The families of half of the tribe of Manasseh have also received their share. 15Those two and a half tribes have received their shares east of the Jordan River. It flows near Jericho. Their land is toward the sunrise.”
16The Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 17“Here are the names of the men who will give out the shares of the land to your people. They are Eleazar the priest and Joshua, the son of Nun. 18Also appoint one leader from each of the nine and a half tribes. They will help you give out the land.
19“Here are their names.
“Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, is from the tribe of Judah.
20Shemuel, the son of Ammihud, is from the tribe of Simeon.
21Elidad, the son of Kislon, is from the tribe of Benjamin.
22Bukki, the son of Jogli, is the leader from the tribe of Dan.
23Hanniel, the son of Ephod, is the leader from the tribe of Manasseh. Manasseh was the son of Joseph.
24Kemuel, the son of Shiphtan, is the leader from the tribe of Ephraim. Ephraim was the son of Joseph.
25Elizaphan, the son of Parnak, is the leader from the tribe of Zebulun.
26Paltiel, the son of Azzan, is the leader from the tribe of Issachar.
27Ahihud, the son of Shelomi, is the leader from the tribe of Asher.
28Pedahel, the son of Ammihud, is the leader from the tribe of Naphtali.”
29These are the men the Lord commanded to give out the shares of the land. They were commanded to give them to Israel in the land of Canaan.

The Borders of Canaan
1The Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 2“Speak to the Israelites and tell them this: You will soon enter the land of Canaan. I am giving you that land to be your very own. These will be its borders: 3On the south, you will get part of the desert of Zin near Edom. Your southern border will start at the south end of the Dead Sea. 4It will cross south of Scorpion Pass. It will go through the town of Zin to Kadesh Barnea and then to Hazar Addar, and then it will pass through Azmon. 5From Azmon the border will go to the River of Egypt,#34:5 River of Egypt That is, the stream called “Wadi El-Arish.” and it will end at the Mediterranean Sea. 6Your western border will be the Mediterranean Sea. 7Your northern border will begin at the Mediterranean Sea and go to Mount Hor. 8From Mount Hor it will go to Lebo Hamath, and then to Zedad. 9Then that border will go to Ziphron and it will end at Hazar Enan. So that will be your northern border. 10Your eastern border will begin at Enan and it will go to Shepham. 11From Shepham the border will go east of Ain to Riblah. The border will continue along the hills by Lake Galilee.#34:11 Lake Galilee Literally, “Kinnereth Lake.” 12Then the border will continue along the Jordan River. It will end at the Dead Sea. These are the borders around your country.”
13So Moses gave this command to the Israelites, “That is the land that you will get. You will throw lots to divide the land among the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh, as the Lord commanded. 14The tribes of Reuben and Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh have already taken their land. 15These two and a half tribes took the land near Jericho—they took the land east of the Jordan River.”
16Then the Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 17“These are the men who will help you divide the land: Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, 18and the leaders of all the tribes. There will be one leader from each tribe. These men will divide the land. 19These are the names of the leaders:
from the tribe of Judah—Caleb son of Jephunneh;
20from the tribe of Simeon—Shemuel son of Ammihud;
21from the tribe of Benjamin—Elidad son of Kislon;
22from the tribe of Dan—Bukki son of Jogli;
23from the descendants of Joseph;
from the tribe of Manasseh—Hanniel son of Ephod;
24from the tribe of Ephraim—Kemuel son of Shiphtan;
25from the tribe of Zebulun—Elizaphan son of Parnach;
26from the tribe of Issachar—Paltiel son of Azzan;
27from the tribe of Asher—Ahihud son of Shelomi;
28from the tribe of Naphtali—Pedahel son of Ammihud.”
29The Lord chose these men to divide the land of Canaan among the Israelites.
