Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” Abraham replied. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son. He is the one you love. Take Isaac. Go to the place called Moriah. Give your son to me there as a burnt offering. Sacrifice him on the mountain I will show you.” Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took two of his servants and his son Isaac with him. He cut enough wood for the burnt offering. Then he started out for the place God had shown him. On the third day Abraham saw the place a long way off. He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey. I and the boy will go over there and worship. Then we’ll come back to you.” Abraham had his son Isaac carry the wood for the burnt offering. He himself carried the fire and the knife. And the two of them walked on together. Then Isaac said to his father Abraham, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said. “But where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them walked on together. They reached the place God had shown Abraham. There Abraham built an altar. He arranged the wood on it. He tied up his son Isaac. Abraham placed him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand. He picked up the knife to kill his son. But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven. He said, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” Abraham replied. “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not harm him. Now I know that you would do anything for God. You have not held back from me your son, your only son.” Abraham looked around. There in a bush he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram. He sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham named that place The LORD Will Provide. To this day people say, “It will be provided on the mountain of the LORD.”

The God Provides series offers a rich, dramatic journey through theater-quality, short films which show us wisdom, truth, encouragement and practical steps to deepen a relationship of trust with God. This session highlights the true story of Abraham and Isaac, his son. God used this test of obedience to see whether or not Abraham trusted Him fully and would, in faith, obediently make everything he had available for God’s use.
Abraham was a man who found himself tested by God. By passing his various tests of faith, Abraham proved himself to be someone who fully trusted in God. Bestselling author Tony Evans reminds us that we will all be faced with tests, even if they are not as extreme as those Abraham went through. But as they did for him, so they offer us an opportunity for growth.
Are you willing to fully trust God, even if it meant giving up your most prized possessions? Through the story of Abraham, we’ll explore the blessings that come with surrendering everything to God and trusting in His provision – and how the results of our obedience are far greater than anything we could hold onto. Get started today!
The names of God are one of the most beautiful, yet often overlooked, part of scripture. When we call upon the names of God as generations have before us, we address Him in such a way that reveals what we need in that particular moment. Join us on a 3-day journey of studying the names of God, specifically mentioned in the song "Names" from Ben Laine.
