Psalm 56
To the Overcomer upon: The silent dove in a distant land, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath.
1¶ Be merciful unto me, O God, for man would swallow me up; he oppresses me fighting me daily.
2My enemies would daily swallow me up, for they are many that fight against me, O thou most High.
3When I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
4In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
5Every day my life is filled with sorrow; all their thoughts are against me for evil.
6They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps when they wait for my soul.
7Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the peoples, O God.
8¶ Thou tellest my wanderings; put my tears into thy bottle; are they not in thy book?
9When I cry unto thee, then shall my enemies be turned back; in this I know that God is for me.
10In God I will praise his word; in the Lord I will praise his word.
11In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid of what man can do unto me.
12Thy promises are upon me, O God; I will render praises unto thee.
13For thou hast delivered my life from death; thou hast kept my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living.

Psalm 56
For the choir director; according to yonath elem rechokim; #56:0 Unknown musical term. a miktam by David when the Philistines captured him in Gath.
1Have pity on me, O God, because people are harassing me.
All day long warriors oppress me.
2All day long my enemies spy on me.
They harass me.
There are so many fighting against me.
3Even when I am afraid, I still trust you.
4I praise God’s word.
I trust God.
I am not afraid.
What can mere flesh ⌞and blood⌟ do to me?
5All day long my enemies twist my words.
Their every thought is an evil plan against me.
6They attack, and then they hide.
They watch my every step as they wait to take my life.
7With the wrong they do, can they escape?
O God, angrily make the nations fall.
8(You have kept a record of my wanderings.
Put my tears in your bottle.
They are already in your book.)
9Then my enemies will retreat when I call ⌞to you⌟.
This I know: God is on my side.
10I praise God’s word.
I praise the Lord’s word.
11I trust God.
I am not afraid.
What can mortals do to me?
12I am bound by my vows to you, O God.
I will keep my vows by offering songs of thanksgiving to you.
13You have rescued me from death.
You have kept my feet from stumbling
so that I could walk in your presence, in the light of life.
