Psalms 107

Psalm 107
1¶ O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good; for his mercy endures for ever.
2Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the enemy
3and gathered them out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.
4They wandered lost in the wilderness, alone and out of the way; they found no city to dwell in.
5Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
7And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
8Oh that men would praise the Lord for his mercy and for his wonderful works unto the sons of Adam!
9For he satisfies the soul that is destitute and fills the hungry soul with goodness.
10¶ Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and in irons,
11because they rebelled against the words of God and condemned the counsel of the most High:
12Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was no one to help.
13Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.
14He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death and broke their bonds asunder.
15Oh that men would praise the Lord for his mercy and for his wonderful works unto the sons of Adam!
16For he has broken the gates of brass and cut the bars of iron asunder.
17¶ The fools, because of the way of their rebellion, and because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
18Their soul abhorred all manner of food, and they drew near unto the gates of death.
19Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.
20He sent his word and healed them and delivered them from their graves.
21Oh that men would praise the Lord for his mercy and for his wonderful works unto the sons of Adam!
22And let them offer the sacrifices of praise and publish his works with singing.
23¶ Those that go down to the sea in ships that do work in many waters,
24these have seen the works of the Lord and his wonders in the deep.
25For he commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up its waves.
26They mount up to the heavens; they go down again to the depths; their soul is melted because of trouble.
27They reel to and fro and stagger like a drunken man, and all of their knowledge is of no avail.
28Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivers them out of their afflictions.
29He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still.
30Then they are glad because they are at rest; so he brings them into the haven of his will.
31Oh that men would praise the Lord for his mercy and for his wonderful works unto the sons of Adam!
32Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
33¶ He turned rivers into a wilderness and the watersprings into dry ground;
34the fruitful land into salt flats, because of the wickedness of those that dwell therein.
35He turns the wilderness into reservoirs of water and dry ground into watersprings.
36And there he makes the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation
37and sow the fields and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
38He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly and suffers not their cattle to decrease.
39Again, they are diminished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
40He pours contempt upon princes and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.
41Yet he sets the poor on high from affliction and makes his families like a flock.
42The righteous shall see it and rejoice, and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
43Who is wise and will observe these things and shall understand the mercies of the Lord?

BOOK FIVE
Psalms 107–150
1Oh, give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good,
for His mercy endures forever!
2#Ps 63:1; 84:2 Let the redeemed of the Lord speak out,
whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,
3#Ps 79:10; 80:5 and gathered them from the lands,
from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.
4#Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8 They wandered in the wilderness on a deserted path;
they found no city to dwell in.
5#Ps 42:11; 43:5 Hungry and thirsty,
their soul fainted in them.
6#2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8–9 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble,
and He delivered them out of their distresses.
7#Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3 He led them on a level road,
that they might go to a city to live in.
8#Job 35:10; Ps 63:6 Let them praise the Lord for His goodness
and for His wonderful works to the people!
9#Ps 38:6; 18:2 For He satisfies the longing soul
and fills the hungry soul with goodness.
10#Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17 Some sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
being prisoners in affliction and irons,
11#Ps 42:5; 43:5 because they rebelled against the words of God
and rejected the counsel of the Most High.
12Therefore He brought down their hearts with hard labor;
they fell down, and there was none to help.
13Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble,
and He delivered them out of their distress.
14He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death
and broke apart their bonds.
15Let them praise the Lord for His goodness
and for His wonderful works to the people!
16For He has broken the gates of bronze
and cut the bars of iron in two.
17Some were fools because of their transgressions,
and because of their iniquities they are afflicted.
18They loathed all manner of food,
and they drew near to the gates of death.
19Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble,
and He saved them out of their distress.
20He sent His word and healed them
and delivered them from their destruction.
21Let them praise the Lord for His goodness
and for His wonderful works to the people!
22And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving
and declare His works with rejoicing.
23Some went down to the sea in ships,
to do business in the vast waters;
24they saw the works of the Lord
and His wonders in the deep water.
25For He commands and raises the stormy wind,
which lifts up the sea waves.
26The sailors went up to the sky, they came down to the depths;
their strength melted because of the great danger.
27They reeled to and fro and staggered like drunken men,
and were completely confused.
28Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and He saved them out of their distress.
29He made the storm calm,
and the sea waves were still.
30They were glad because the waters were quiet,
so He brought them to their desired harbor.
31Let them praise the Lord for His goodness
and for His wonderful works to the people!
32Let them exalt Him in the congregation of the people,
and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
33He turns rivers into a desert,
water springs into dry ground,
34a fruitful land into salty wasteland,
because of the wickedness of those living there.
35He turns a wilderness into pools of water,
a parched ground into springs of water.
36There He makes the hungry dwell,
and they prepare a city to live in;
37they sow fields and plant vineyards,
and yield a fruitful harvest.
38He blesses them, so that they are greatly multiplied,
and He does not let their livestock decrease.
39But when they are diminished and brought down
through oppression, affliction, and sorrow,
40He pours contempt upon princes,
and causes them to wander in a wilderness with no road;
41yet He raises up the poor from affliction
and cares for their families like flocks of sheep.
42The righteous shall see it and rejoice,
and all evil people shall stop their mouth.
43Whoever is wise let him observe these things;
let them consider the lovingkindness of the Lord.
