Nehemiah 7
1¶ Now it came to pass, when the wall was built and I had set up the doors and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,
2that I commanded my brother Hanani, and Hananiah, the prince of the palace in Jerusalem (for he was as a man of truth and feared God above many);
3and I said unto them, Do not let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot and even with the guards present, let them shut the doors and bar them. And appoint guards of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each one in his watch and each one to be in front of his house.
4Now the city was large and great, but there were few people in it, and the houses were not rebuilt.
5¶ And my God put it into my heart to gather together the principals and the rulers and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found the register of the genealogy of those who had come up before and found written therein:
6These are the sons of the province, that came up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had carried away and returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, each one unto his city,
7who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:

59the sons of Shephatiah, the sons of Hattil, the sons of Pochereth of Zebaim, the sons of Amon.
60All the Nethinims, and the sons of Solomon’s slaves, were three hundred and ninety-two.
61And these were they which came up also from Telmelah, Telharesha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer; but they could not show their father’s house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel.
62The sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda, six hundred and forty-two.
63And of the priests: the sons of Habaiah, the sons of Koz, the sons of Barzillai, who took one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called after their name.
64These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found; therefore, were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.
65And the Tirshatha said unto them that they should not eat of the most holy things until there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.
66The whole congregation united as one man was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty,
67not counting their menslaves and their maidslaves, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven; and they had two hundred and forty-five men and women singers.
68Their horses, seven hundred and thirty-six; their mules, two hundred and forty-five:
69 Their camels, four hundred and thirty-five; their asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.
70And some of the princes of the families gave unto the work. The Tirshatha gave for the treasure one thousand drams of gold, fifty basins, and five hundred and thirty priests’ garments.
71And the princes of the families gave for the treasure of the work twenty thousand drams of gold and two thousand two hundred pounds of silver.
72And that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand drams of gold and two thousand pounds of silver and sixty-seven priests’ garments.
73So the priests and the Levites and the porters and the singers and those of the people and the Nethinims and all Israel dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the sons of Israel were in their cities.

Nehemiah 7
7
1Once the wall had been rebuilt and I had put up the doors, I appointed the gatekeepers, singers, and Levites. 2I put my brother Hanani in charge of Jerusalem, together with Hananiah the commander of the fortress, because he was an honest man who respected God more than many others.
3I told them, “Don't allow the gates of Jerusalem to be opened until the sun is hot,#7:3. This phrase could also be translated, “Don't allow the gates of Jerusalem to be opened when the sun is hot,” meaning during the time after lunch when the guards might be lax in their duties. and make sure the guards shut and bolt the doors while they're still on duty. Appoint some of the residents of Jerusalem as guards, to be at their posts, standing in front of their own houses.”
4In those times the city was large with plenty of space, but there weren't many people in it, and the houses hadn't been rebuilt. 5My God encouraged me to have everyone—the nobles, the officials, and the people—all come to be registered according to their family genealogy. I found the genealogical register of those who had returned first. This what I discovered written there.
6This is a list of the people of the province who returned from the captivity. These were the exiles who had been taken away to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, to their home towns. 7They were led by Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah.
This is the number of men of the people of Israel:#7:7. This list is similar to that found in Ezra 2, with some differences in spelling, order, and number. 8The sons of Parosh, 2,172; 9the sons of Shephatiah, 372; 10the sons of Arah, 652; 11the sons of Pahath-moab (the sons of Jeshua and Joab), 2,818; 12the sons of Elam, 1,254; 13The sons of Zattu, 845; 14the sons of Zaccai, 760; 15the sons of Binnui, 648; 16the sons of Bebai, 628; 17the sons of Azgad, 2,322; 18the sons of Adonikam, 667; 19the sons of Bigvai, 2,067. 20The sons of Adin, 655. 21The sons of Ater (sons of Hezekiah), 98; 22the sons of Hashum, 328; 23the sons of Bezai, 324; 24the sons of Hariph, 112; 25the sons of Gibeon, 95; 26the people from Bethlehem and Netophah, 188; 27the people from Anathoth, 128; 28the people from Beth-azmaveth 42; 29the people from Kiriath-jearim, Chephirah, and Beeroth, 743; 30the people from Ramah and Geba, 621; 31the people from Michmas, 122; 32the people from Bethel and Ai, 123; 33the people from the other Nebo, 52; 34the sons of the other Elam, 1,254; 35the sons of Harim, 320; 36the sons of Jericho, 345; 37the sons of Lod, Hadid and Ono, 721; 38the sons of Senaah, 3,930.
39This is the number of the priests: the sons of Jedaiah (through the family of Jeshua), 973; 40the sons of Immer, 1,052; 41the sons of Pashhur, 1,247; 42the sons of Harim, 1,017.
43This is the number of the Levites: the sons of Jeshua through Kadmiel (sons of Hodaviah), 74; 44the singers of the sons of Asaph, 148; 45the gatekeepers of the families of Shallum, Ater, Talmon, Akkub, Hatita, and Shobai, 138.
46The descendants of these Temple servants: Ziha, Hasupha, Tabbaoth, 47Keros, Sia, Padon, 48Lebanah, Hagabah, Shalmai, 49Hanan, Giddel, Gahar, 50Reaiah, Rezin, Nekoda, 51Gazzam, Uzza, Paseah, 52Besai, Meunim, Nephusim, 53Bakbuk, Hakupha, Harhur, 54Bazluth, Mehida, Harsha, 55Barkos, Sisera, Temah, 56Neziah, and Hatipha.
57The descendants of King Solomon's servants: Sotai, Sophereth, Perida, 58Jaala, Darkon, Giddel, 59Shephatiah, Hattil, Pokereth-Hazzebaim and Amon. 60The total of the Temple servants and the descendants of Solomon's servants was 392.
61Those who came from the towns of Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Kerub, Addan, and Immer could not prove their family genealogy, or even that they were descendants of Israel. 62They included the families of Delaiah, Tobiah, and Nekoda, 642 in total.
63In addition there were three priestly families, sons of Hobaiah, Hakkoz, and Barzillai. (Barzillai had married a woman descended from Barzillai of Gilead, and he was called by that name.) 64They searched for a record of them in the genealogies, but their names weren't found, so they were barred from serving as priests. 65The governor instructed them not to eat anything from the sanctuary sacrifices until a priest could ask the Lord about the issue by using the Urim and Thummim.
66The total number of people returning was 42,360. 67In addition there were 7,337 servants and 245 male and female singers. 68They had 736 horses, 245 mules,#7:68. Most Hebrew manuscripts are missing this verse. 69435 camels, and 6,720 donkeys.
70Some of the family leaders made voluntary contributions toward the work. The governor presented to the treasury 1,000 gold darics, 50 bowls and 530#7:70. Some believe that originally the text read “30 sets of clothes for the priests and 500 minas of silver.” sets of clothes for the priests. 71Some of the family leaders donated to the treasury for the work 20,000 darics of gold and 2,200 minas of silver. 72The rest of the people donated 20,000 gold darics, 2,000 minas of silver, and 67 sets of clothes for the priests.
73The priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, and Temple servants, as well as some of the people and the rest of the Israelites, went back to live in their specific towns. By the seventh month the Israelites were living in their towns,
