Psalms 71
71
An Old Person’s Prayer
1In you, Lord, is my protection.
Never let me be ashamed.
2Because you do what is right, save and rescue me;
listen to me and save me.
3Be my place of safety
where I can always come.
Give the command to save me,
because you are my rock and my strong, walled city.
4My God, save me from the power of the wicked
and from the hold of evil and cruel people.
5Lord, you are my hope.
Lord, I have trusted you since I was young.
6I have depended on you since I was born;
you helped me even on the day of my birth.
I will always praise you.
7I am an example to many people,
because you are my strong protection.
8I am always praising you;
all day long I honor you.
9Do not reject me when I am old;
do not leave me when my strength is gone.
10My enemies make plans against me,
and they meet together to kill me.
11They say, “God has left him.
Go after him and take him,
because no one will save him.”
12God, don’t be far off.
My God, hurry to help me.
13Let those who accuse me
be ashamed and destroyed.
Let those who are trying to hurt me
be covered with shame and disgrace.
14But I will always have hope
and will praise you more and more.
15I will tell how you do what is right.
I will tell about your salvation all day long,
even though it is more than I can tell.
16I will come and tell about your powerful works, Lord God.
I will remind people that only you do what is right.
17God, you have taught me since I was young.
To this day I tell about the miracles you do.
18Even though I am old and gray,
do not leave me, God.
I will tell the children about your power;
I will tell those who live after me about your might.
19God, your justice reaches to the skies.
You have done great things;
God, there is no one like you.
20You have given me many troubles and bad times,
but you will give me life again.
When I am almost dead,
you will keep me alive.
21You will make me greater than ever,
and you will comfort me again.
22I will praise you with the harp.
I trust you, my God.
I will sing to you with the lyre,
Holy One of Israel.
23I will shout for joy when I sing praises to you.
You have saved me.
24I will tell about your justice all day long.
And those who want to hurt me
will be ashamed and disgraced.

Tehillim 71
71
1In Thee, Hashem, do I put my trust; let me not be put to shame l'olam.
2Deliver me in Thy tzedakah, and cause me to escape; incline Thine ear unto me, and hoshi'eini (save me).
3Be Thou Tzur Ma'on (a rock of habitation), whereunto I may resort tamid (continually); Thou hast given commandment to save me; for Thou art my rock and my fortress.
4Deliver me, O Elohai, out of the yad of the rasha, out of the palm of the unrighteous and cruel man.
5For Thou art my tikveh (hope), Adonoi Hashem; Thou art my trust from my youth.
6By Thee have I been upheld from the beten (womb); Thou art He that took me out of the womb of immi; my tehillah (praise) shall be of Thee tamid (continually).
7I am as a mofet (portent) unto rabbim (many); but Thou art my strong refuge.
8Let my mouth be filled with Thy tehillah (praise) and with Thy tiferet (glory) kol hayom.
9Cast me not off in the time of ziknah (old age); forsake me not when my ko'ach faileth.
10For mine oyevim speak against me; and they that lay in wait for my nefesh conspire together,
11Saying, Elohim hath forsaken him; persecute and lay hold of him; for there is none to rescue him.
12O Elohim, be not far from me; O Elohai, make haste for my help.
13Let them be ashamed and consumed that are#71:13 satanic adversaries to my nefesh; let them be covered with cherpah (reproach) and dishonor that seek my hurt.
14But I will hope tamid (continually), and will yet give tehillah to Thee more and more.
15My mouth shall proclaim Thy tzedakah and Thy Teshuah (salvation) kol hayom; for I know not the limits thereof.
16I will come in the gevurot (mighty acts) of Adonoi Hashem; I will make mention of Thy tzedakah, even of Thine only.
17O Elohim, Thou hast taught me from my youth; and hitherto have I declared Thy nifle'ot (wondrous works).
18Now also when I am in ziknah (old age) and grayheaded, O Elohim, forsake me not; until I have declared Thy zero'a#71:18 Moshiach; see Isa 53:1 unto this generation, and Thy gevurah to everyone that is to come.
19Thy tzedakah also, O Elohim, is ad marom (to the heights). Thou Who hast done gedolot (great things); O Elohim, mi khamocha (who is like unto Thee)?
20Thou, which hast showed me great and severe tzoros, shalt revive me again, and shalt bring me up again from the tehomot (abysses) of ha'aretz.
21Thou shalt increase my gedolah, and comfort me on every side.
22I will also praise Thee with the nevel (lyre), even Thy emes, O Elohai; unto Thee will I sing with the kinnor (harp), O Thou Kadosh Yisroel.
23My lips shall shout for joy when I sing unto Thee; and my nefesh, which Thou hast purchased for redemption.
24My leshon also shall tell of Thy tzedakah kol hayom; for they are brought unto shame, they are humiliated that seek my hurt.
