Psalms 37
37
God Will Reward Fairly
Of David.
1Don’t be upset because of evil people.
Don’t be jealous of those who do wrong,
2because like the grass, they will soon dry up.
Like green plants, they will soon die away.
3Trust the Lord and do good.
Live in the land and feed on truth.
4Enjoy serving the Lord,
and he will give you what you want.
5Depend on the Lord;
trust him, and he will take care of you.
6Then your goodness will shine like the sun,
and your fairness like the noonday sun.
7Wait and trust the Lord.
Don’t be upset when others get rich
or when someone else’s plans succeed.
8Don’t get angry.
Don’t be upset; it only leads to trouble.
9Evil people will be sent away,
but those who trust the Lord will inherit the land.
10In a little while the wicked will be no more.
You may look for them, but they will be gone.
11People who are not proud will inherit the land
and will enjoy complete peace.
12The wicked make evil plans against good people.
They grind their teeth at them in anger.
13But the Lord laughs at the wicked,
because he sees that their day is coming.
14The wicked draw their swords
and bend their bows
to kill the poor and helpless,
to kill those who are honest.
15But their swords will stab their own hearts,
and their bows will break.
16It is better to have little and be right
than to have much and be wrong.
17The power of the wicked will be broken,
but the Lord supports those who do right.
18The Lord watches over the lives of the innocent,
and their reward will last forever.
19They will not be ashamed when trouble comes.
They will be full in times of hunger.
20But the wicked will die.
The Lord’s enemies will be like the flowers of the fields;
they will disappear like smoke.
21The wicked borrow and don’t pay back,
but those who do right give freely to others.
22Those whom the Lord blesses will inherit the land,
but those he curses will be sent away.
23When people’s steps follow the Lord,
God is pleased with their ways.
24If they stumble, they will not fall,
because the Lord holds their hand.
25I was young, and now I am old,
but I have never seen good people left helpless
or their children begging for food.
26Good people always lend freely to others,
and their children are a blessing.
27Stop doing evil and do good,
so you will live forever.
28The Lord loves justice
and will not leave those who worship him.
He will always protect them,
but the children of the wicked will die.
29Good people will inherit the land
and will live in it forever.
30Good people speak with wisdom,
and they say what is fair.
31The teachings of their God are in their heart,
so they do not fail to keep them.
32The wicked watch for good people
so that they may kill them.
33But the Lord will not take away his protection
or let good people be judged guilty.
34Wait for the Lord’s help
and follow him.
He will honor you and give you the land,
and you will see the wicked sent away.
35I saw a wicked and cruel man
who looked strong like a healthy tree in good soil.
36But he died and was gone;
I looked for him, but he couldn’t be found.
37Think of the innocent person,
and watch the honest one.
The man who has peace
will have children to live after him.
38But sinners will be destroyed;
in the end the wicked will die.
39The Lord saves good people;
he is their strength in times of trouble.
40The Lord helps them and saves them;
he saves them from the wicked,
because they trust in him for protection.

Psalms 37
37
A Psalm of David.
1Do not fret because of evildoers,
nor be jealous of those who do injustice.
2#Ps 63:1; 84:2 For they will quickly wither like the grass,
and fade like the green herbs.
3#Ps 79:10; 80:5 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land, and practice faithfulness.
4#Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8 Delight yourself in the Lord,
and He will give you the desires of your heart.
5#Ps 42:11; 43:5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass.
6#2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8–9 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your judgment as the noonday.
7#Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
do not fret because of those who prosper in their way,
because of those who make wicked schemes.
8#Job 35:10; Ps 63:6 Let go of anger, and forsake wrath;
do not fret—it surely leads to evil deeds.
9#Ps 38:6; 18:2 For evildoers will be cut off,
but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the earth.
10#Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17 For yet a little while, and the wicked will not be;
you will look diligently for their place, and it will not be.
11#Ps 42:5; 43:5 But the meek will inherit the earth,
and will delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
12The wicked plot against the righteous,
and grind their teeth against them.
13The Lord will laugh at him,
for He sees that his day is coming.
14The wicked have drawn out the sword
and have bent their bow,
to cast down the poor and needy,
and to slay those on the upright path.
15Their sword will enter into their own heart,
and their bows will be broken.
16Better is a little that the righteous has
than the abundance of many wicked.
17For the arms of the wicked will be broken,
but the Lord supports the righteous.
18The Lord knows the days of people of integrity,
and their inheritance will be forever.
19They will not be ashamed in the evil time,
and in the days of famine they will be satisfied.
20But the wicked will perish,
and the enemies of the Lord will be like the glory of pastures;
they will waste away, in smoke they will waste away.
21The wicked borrows and does not repay,
but the righteous is gracious and gives.
22For those who are blessed of Him will inherit the earth,
but those who are cursed of Him will be cut off.
23The steps of a man are made firm by the Lord;
He delights in his way.
24Though he falls, he will not be hurled down,
for the Lord supports him with His hand.
25I have been young, and now am old;
yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
nor their offspring begging bread.
26The righteous are gracious and lend,
and their offspring are a source of blessing.
27Depart from evil and do good,
and abide forevermore.
28For the Lord loves justice,
and does not forsake His saints;
they are preserved forever,
but the descendants of the wicked will be cut off.
29The righteous will inherit the land,
and dwell on it forever.
30The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
and their tongue speaks justice.
31The law of their God is in their heart;
none of their steps will slip.
32The wicked watch the righteous,
and seek to kill them.
33The Lord will not forsake them to their hand,
nor condemn them when they are judged.
34Hope in the Lord,
and keep His way,
and He will exalt you to inherit the land;
when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.
35I have seen the wicked in great power,
and spreading himself like a luxuriant tree.
36Yet he passed away, and he was not;
I sought him, but he could not be found.
37Mark the blameless man, and consider the upright,
for the end of that man is peace.
38But the transgressors will be destroyed together;
the end of the wicked is to be cut off.
39But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
He is their refuge in the time of distress.
40The Lord will help them and deliver them;
He will deliver them from the wicked,
and save them, because they take refuge in Him.
