Psalms 143
143
A Prayer Not to Be Killed
A psalm of David.
1Lord, hear my prayer;
listen to my cry for mercy.
Answer me
because you are loyal and good.
2Don’t judge me, your servant,
because no one alive is right before you.
3My enemies are chasing me;
they crushed me to the ground.
They made me live in darkness
like those long dead.
4I am afraid;
my courage is gone.
5I remember what happened long ago;
I consider everything you have done.
I think about all you have made.
6I lift my hands to you in prayer.
As a dry land needs rain, I thirst for you.Selah
7Lord, answer me quickly,
because I am getting weak.
Don’t turn away from me,
or I will be like those who are dead.
8Tell me in the morning about your love,
because I trust you.
Show me what I should do,
because my prayers go up to you.
9Lord, save me from my enemies;
I hide in you.
10Teach me to do what you want,
because you are my God.
Let your good Spirit
lead me on level ground.
11Lord, let me live
so people will praise you.
In your goodness
save me from my troubles.
12In your love defeat my enemies.
Destroy all those who trouble me,
because I am your servant.

Psalms 143
143
A Psalm of David.
1Hear my prayer, O Lord;
give ear to my supplications!
In thy faithfulness answer me, in thy righteousness!
2 #
Ps 130.3; Rom 3.20; Gal 2.16. Enter not into judgment with thy servant;
for no man living is righteous before thee.
3For the enemy has pursued me;
he has crushed my life to the ground;
he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead.
4Therefore my spirit faints within me;
my heart within me is appalled.
5I remember the days of old,
I meditate on all that thou hast done;
I muse on what thy hands have wrought.
6I stretch out my hands to thee;
my soul thirsts for thee like a parched land. Selah
7Make haste to answer me, O Lord!
My spirit fails!
Hide not thy face from me,
lest I be like those who go down to the Pit.
8Let me hear in the morning of thy steadfast love,
for in thee I put my trust.
Teach me the way I should go,
for to thee I lift up my soul.
9Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies!
I have fled to thee for refuge!#143.9 One Heb Ms Gk: Heb to thee I have hidden
10Teach me to do thy will,
for thou art my God!
Let thy good spirit lead me
on a level path!
11For thy name's sake, O Lord, preserve my life!
In thy righteousness bring me out of trouble!
12And in thy steadfast love cut off my enemies,
and destroy all my adversaries,
for I am thy servant.
