Psalms 138
138
A Hymn of Thanksgiving
A psalm of David.
1Lord, I will thank you with all my heart;
I will sing to you before the gods.
2I will bow down facing your holy Temple,
and I will thank you for your love and loyalty.
You have made your name and your word
greater than anything.
3On the day I called to you, you answered me.
You made me strong and brave.
4Lord, let all the kings of the earth praise you
when they hear the words you speak.
5They will sing about what the Lord has done,
because the Lord’s glory is great.
6Though the Lord is supreme,
he takes care of those who are humble,
but he stays away from the proud.
7Lord, even when I have trouble all around me,
you will keep me alive.
When my enemies are angry,
you will reach down and save me by your power.
8Lord, you do everything for me.
Lord, your love continues forever.
Do not leave us, whom you made.

Psalms 138

Psalm 138
Thanksgiving for the Lord’s Favor.
A Psalm of David.
1I will give You thanks with all my heart;
I sing praises to You before the [pagan] gods.
2I will bow down [in worship] toward Your holy temple
And give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
For You have magnified Your word together with Your name.
3On the day I called, You answered me;
And You made me bold and confident with [renewed] strength in my life.
4¶All the kings of the land will give thanks and praise You, O Lord,
When they have heard of the promises of Your mouth [which were fulfilled].
5Yes, they will sing of the ways of the Lord [joyfully celebrating His wonderful acts],
For great is the glory and majesty of the Lord.
6Though the Lord is exalted,
He regards the lowly [and invites them into His fellowship];
But the proud and haughty He knows from a distance. [Prov 3:34; James 4:6; 1 Pet 5:5]
7¶Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me;
You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will save me. [Ps 23:3, 4]
8The Lord will accomplish that which concerns me;
Your [unwavering] lovingkindness, O Lord, endures forever—
Do not abandon the works of Your own hands. [Ps 57:2; Phil 1:6]
